Better Explaination of question: Is it possible to work on the same vb project at the same time?
I searched over google for help and I found a forum but it looked very complicated and I diden't feel like screw stuff p so can someone please give me a link or tell me how?
Create an application that allows the user to select or enter into a combo box the number of days a person will work, and calculates the total amount of pay she will receive over that period of time. Salary is one penny the first day, two pennies the second day, four pennies the third say, and continuing to double each day.
The combo box must list the following items: 30, 180, 365, and 1000. Must be the default drop down box. Use a validating event procedure on the combo box.
The program should go through a loop once for each day, doubling the number of pennies with each iteration of the loop. You will need a running totl of the number of pennies that you add to with each iteration. To calculate the total amount of pay, multiply the total number of pennies by .01 and show the result in currency format.

My program has a textbox and a listview. In the list view i have added three person's name, John, Kat, Adel.
How do I make it such that when John's name is selected in list view, John's age is automatically displayed in the text box?
And when Kat's name is selected in list view, Kat's age is automatically displayed in the text box?

I have a combobox which contains a sample of names selected from a table.Currently the default name displayed in the box is the 1st name found in the table. What I would like to do is display the name of the person who is doing the selection as the default. The name is stored in a public variable 'PubName' and I do not want the user to be able to type into the combobox themselves.Is this possible?
View 2 RepliesI'm using vb2008 with DB MSA2007 (save it to MSA2003) on Seven(7)System After I create my project I build it(make exe). then I took the file of project (application) and the DB from Debug Folder.
I tried to run this application with DB on another computer it's system is seven and MSA2007 and work very well. then I run it on pc it's system XP and MSA2003. it showed this error

If i use custom images in my programs from my pc. After i publish this and give it to my friends they get errors due to them not having the images. How do i go about adding the images to the application or just generally how you resolve this?

i am doing an internship for which i had to make a code in vb. i am using vb 2010 ultimate. the code is ready n bug free. it does what it is supposed to do on my system. how should i transfer it onto my mentor's system because he needs the code for day to day activities. his system has v1.something for .net framework. mine is v4.something.i have tried sending him exe file generated. didnt work due to the difference in versions of.net framework.then i read bout package and deployment wizard. vb 2010 ultimate doesnt have that wizard. i tried publishing it. gives me an error "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working." this is on my system and not my mentor's.
View 7 Repliesfiguring out which multithreading approach to utilize in my current work project. Since I've never written a multithreaded app in my life, this is all confusing and very overwhelming.I've been assigned to take over work on a control application for a piece of test equipment in my companies R&D lab. The program has to be able to send and receive serial communications with three different devices semi-concurrently. The original program was written in VB 6 (no multithreading) and I did plan on just modding it to work with the newer products that need to be tested until it posed a safety hazard when the UI locked up due to excessive serial communications during a test. This resulted in part of the tester hardware blowing up, so I decided to try rewriting the app in VB.Net as I'm more comfortable with it to begin with and because I thought multithreading might help solve this problem.
My plan was to send commands to the other pieces of equipment from the main app thread and spin the receiving ends off into their own threads so that the main thread wouldn't lock up when timing is critical. However, I've yet to come to terms with my options. To add to my problems, I need to display the received communications in separate rich text boxes as they're received while the data from one particular device needs to be parsed by the main program, but only the text that results from the most current test (I need the text box to contain all received data though).
So far, I've investigated delegates, handling the threads myself, and just began looking into BackgroundWorkers. I tried to use delegates earlier today, but couldn't figure out a way to update the text boxes. Would I need to use a call back function to do this since I can't do it in the body of the delegate function itself? The problem I see with handling threads myself is figuring out how to pass data back and forth between the thread and the rest of the program. BackgroundWorkers, as I said, I just started investigating so I'm not sure what to think about them yet.
Each time I create a program, if I don't change the CPU type to x86 in the Project Properties, Compile, Advanced Compile options, it doesn't work. For example, if I hit the drop down button on a combo box, there will be no data, but after switching to x86, there is data. How does changing the CPU type affect how others (such as when its being graded) view the program? If the program is not run on an x86 system, would it appear to not work then?

An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error.Plus when trying to run a project in debug it takes ages to load (around 5 minutes) this has only started happening recently, projects were loading in seconds.
A colleague has written a useful tool. He wrote it as a standalone tool, but it works even better as an includable dll, though it needs a bit of other functionality for it to be a really good drop-in component. What I am wondering is whether a project can be compiled as both an exe and as a dll?
There are alternatives, such as having a dll version and an exe version, since the dll version needs to include a few different methods that the exe version doesn't need, but this alternative sucks, since it would mean changing two sets of code.
Another alternative is to build the dll, then change the exe to be a project that references the dll....and does nothing other than calling one method in the dll. That kind of sucks, too, but not as bad.
I want to be able to use his module in some of my programs, and it really should be built as a component rather than a standalone app, but I want to know whether there are other options that I haven't considered.

I have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2010 for an Excel Add-In.I use the "My" namespace,and in general it seems that the "My Project" folder contains configuration information about the project.My problem is that I need to change the name of this folder, because my version manager system won't accept spaces in file or folder names.Edit: There is a hacky way to do it, by renaming the folder and changing all references in the .vbproj file.However, the may work for a command line generation, but it won't work the next time the project will be opened in Visual Studio. The IDE will create a new "My Project" folder, and complain that it can't find the settings in it.

View 4 RepliesAll my users can click on an image button accept one.When she hovers over the imagee it does not provide info on the status bar as if it doesn't even recognize there is a image button there.ALL the other users roll over it and the info comes up on the status bar and they can click the button and it works.What should I be looking for that one user can not access this button.There is not code specific that locks her out and the ahref links on her page work but not the image button.

We are developing an application in VB.NET 2008. We break the application into smaller multiple dlls so that we can easily update the program at the customer end.We want to know that is their any way to stop the other person to use my dll in their application?i.e we want to lock the dlls such a way that the dlls will be used by us only and not anybody in their application.Also we want to block viewing of dlls code using any code reflector
View 1 RepliesThe situation: when i build my project (or publish) Visual Basic 2010 makes and exe and a couple ddl files. when i run the project with the .exe and the other files the program works perfectly.
My problem: I want to share it with friends and it is just a verry little program ( a n internet radio) so i want it to be 1 .exe with out any other instalation needed so i can easly share it to anyone who wants it. when i make an even smaller program and Debud->build it, it is only 1 exe and no instalation needed. so is there a way to make my program to 1 exe only?
