I am using Visual Basic 2010 Professional Edition. I have tried all day to create and add a property to the Windows form frmCard. I need to create a CustomerID which is a system.Guid but it needs to accept a string value from a DataSet and be able to pass it as a system.
View 1 Replieswhen I'm creating a new property in Visual Basic .NET in Visual Studio 2010, the rest of the Property (template?) doesn't complete the basic framework of the property in the code editor. It is now treating a statement like:
Public Property Length() As Integer
Instead of completing the property as it used to (code follows), it simply goes to the next line:
Public Property Length() As Integer
Get[code].....
What happens now is that, if I type in the 'End Property' code, the name of the property will now be highlighted as an error since it doesn't have a 'Get' or 'Set' portion.However, when I THEN type the 'Get' on the line following the 'Public Property Length() As Integer', then the balance of the property is created in the code automatically.I don't know how this got changed, but would love to change it back.Does anyone know if there's a setting in VS2010 that addresses this, or if it's something with the basic templates that visual studio uses for creating the basic code components?The weird thing is that for everything else, from class declarations, structures, functions and subs, the IDE still creates the balance of the code structure correctly. The only area where it doesn't is for Property declarations.

View 5 RepliesI have a custom form that I use instead of msgbox for a number of reasons. The initial reason was to keep the message centered on it's parent rather than the screen. There are many articles about this but I still have not found an elegant way to get access to the Parent's properties from inside the Child without passing them in (by one way or another).
In the child form the me.parent, me.parentform are not instantiated and apparently can not be used.
The point is to have this form be totally encapsulated with the logic being self contained. This is not an MDI child, and I do not want it to be due to the limitations on MDI children.
My current workaround looks like this I use a ShowMsg Function in my MyMsgBox form which looks like this:

I have another question (and anticipate that I will have about two more before I'm done with my class project). Here is my issue (and I'll copy and paste my code for clarification). I need to link up the control from the form on either side of the current form that I'm working on so that if I click on the buttons that I'm titling previous and next that I can click on the proper button and either go directly to the previous form or the next form. I was successful in doing this for two earlier forms on this project (with some direction from a couple of helpful people on this forum before), but for some reason, no matter what I details I use the controls do not connect to the previous and next forms.

I have a video control AxLiveLib.AxLiveX that displays video from a networked surveillance system. I'm trying to integrate this system into an MDI project, but when I set the form.mdiparent property on the form that has the video control, I no longer display video.I have a status bar at the bottom of the form that tells me connection status and current bitrate, so I can see that I am connected to the system, and if I comment out the 'FrmV.MdiParent = me' line on the parent form, I can see the video through the control.My question is what changes about the child form when you set it's MDIParent property? for example does the mdi parent take control over the forms refresh or draw functions?

Form1 has one textbox and one button, Btn1 when clicked, it opens Form2 as dialog.
Form2 has one textbox and one button too.
First I click on Btn1 to open Form2 as dialog. And when I click on Btn2 on Form2, I want the text in the Textbox2 to be copied to TextBox1. I know it could be done by Public Property Get, Set but I am stuck.
I basically want to be able to set a property for all textboxes on a specific form. Say, I want to set the wordwrap-property to true on all textboxes. How could this be done?

I have a combo box and a property grid in a form. The combo box contains 2 items. If one item is selected, two properties are listed in the property grid. These properties should have a dropdown that contains a list of items. I have two string arrays that contain the values for these properties. Can I use one TypeConverter that inherits StringConverter for these lists to be displayed in two different properties? That is, with one TypeConverter class, can I populate both the lists? I will also have to do the same with the other items in the combo box.
