Interface And Graphics :: Speed Difference From VB6 - In Pixel Rendering
Nov 24, 2008
I made a graphics program in VB6... I then wanted to remake it in VB.NET (I believed it would be faster).
To convert it I wrote both the VB6 and VB.NET versions from scratch side by side. What I have found it that the VB6 code is MUCH faster than the VB.NET program... which I can't understand... (Please note that when not rerendering it in VB.NET it is much faster than VB6)
Here is the VB6 code
[CODE]:...............................
How do you do this in VB.NET?
EDIT: Also... why do I have to multiply Me.ClientSize.Width by 3 for it to be the right size... it doesn't seem to add up.
EDIT2: The smaller the radsize the more efficient VB.NET is compared to VB6... so perhaps it has something to do with the setpixel in VB.NET

I am looking at using the better GDI++ font rendering in a web browser I'm making with VB2008. I want to retain the IE web browser component (the default one) but have all text rendered through GDI++ to give a more Safari-like look to the text. What I want to know is, is this even possible? And if so, how complex are we talking?

I would like to create a pixel viwer (i.e. zoom into a picture to view the image's pixel information - Similar to windows paint or Photoshop). I have created an image zooming code, but it enlarges the image and sadly, doesn't show the blocks of pixels I was hoping for.I have thought of several ideas, but each worse than the next. As an example, re-create the image, increasing each pixel's area based on the zoom-level. But I can tell already that this process would be slow and judging by photoshop (or paint) there is a quicker method.

I am developing a software that would scan the image in a picturebox and obtain the rgb values of each pixel in the image and convert each rgb values to HSL values. I am using vb 2008 express edition. I am still a student. All I have done is to obtain the image in a file and paste it in the picturebox. Below is my code. I dont really know how to start with the process of obtaining the rgb values of each pixel and converting them to HSL values and averaging the HSL value.[code..]

i am a beginner in vb 2005 so im tryin to calculate the minimum speed of a car the user will enter the distance in feet, and when they click calculate the interface should give the minimum speed. the formula to find out the speed is : s = (24d)^ 1/2 where s is speed and d is distance. [code]

I'm making my first 2D game, and I've created an object inherited from a picturebox, to use as a little man. I've tried to make it move using a timer, but I'm not satisfied with the result. Sometimes the speed seems to change for no reason.

Ive been working on creating a side scroller game, and the back color of my pictureboxes needs to go. when transparent, it shows through the program and onto whatever is active in your Windows os(usually Visual studios).
I am trying to rip pixel color off of the background image picturebox( the level), and replace parts of the character picture box that show transparency with the level art. there may be poor logic in my code?
Heres my code:
Dim newImage As Bitmap = New Bitmap(PictureBox1.Image)
Dim backImage As Bitmap = New Bitmap(PictureBox2.Image)
Dim ximg As Bitmap = New Bitmap(PictureBox3.Image)
[code]....
not the best idea, but all i get is one color for all the level pixels placed in the new image, which is odd. any poor logic you see in this code that could allow the newImage.setPixel not to be 1 color? when i breakpoint, it is recieving different colors from the backimage.getpixel, but only putting one shade on for setpixel somehow. im not going for an accurate color read from the background yet, just wondering why im getting 1 pixel color for the whole picturebox background when being changed.

I'm trying to figure out some simple code to detect when a pixel changes color anywhere on the screen. Maybe with just a msgbox popup when it changes.

how I could search a given bitmap, say "test.bmp" or a printscreen, for two pixels that are next to each other and that have specified color values? The colors are: &H486596 and &H213D66. I then want to return the pixel positions in the image at which they are first located adjacent to one another. I'm only after the first instance of the occurrence. I wish to use GetDIBits as I hear that it's quicker. So I want to find the first instance where the color value for pixel (x,y) = &H486596 and (x+1, y) = &H213D66.

Is there any way to have 2d graphics that gets made by user through manual dimensions input be bound to a text box?
Is there any way to take position 1000,600 and make that zero? Can we make graphics by inputting only the next co-ordinate and have the pc automatically draw a line from last point?
Also, whats the difference between drawline and draw path? How can I get the shape to remain on screen when I toggle between pages?

Apologies as this has probably been answered a million different times a million different ways already. I'm trying to control the mouse. I wish to move the mouse to a given pixel position (x, y) and cause a click. I don't want this to be limited within a form, as I want to control another application. I'm using VB 2005.

We have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.
The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.
So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...

I have an owner-drawn control where performance is an issue during quick repaints such as object drags, resizing and painting the selector square. i have noticed that several other apps, including Picasa, will temporarily draw a reduced-quality image during fast repaint scenarios and then update the image with a higher-quality version when the UI "settles down."
How should I (can I?) produce a lower-quality image to paint when many quick redraws are taking place? Are there other strategies similar to this i can employ to increase performance (or fake increased performance.) [code]...

I am trying to make a graphics program with mousewheel-controlled zooming using GDI+. My plan is to provide rapid feedback, such as a low resolution render or even just a bounding rectangle, followed by a full resolution render as soon as possible afterwards. It seems logical to me to try a BackgroundWorker for the latter task. This is my first attempt to use one of these, or any other way of multithreading for that matter. Mousewheel events can follow one another much more quickly than I can render to the screen. That means I need to kill any rendering process that is already running and start a new one with the latest value of the zoom scaling factor.[code]The above class coexists with a DrawingSurface class, a UserControl which listens for the ProvideFeedback and ScaledImageReady events and paints the image accordingly. It also raises mouse/keyboard events for the zoom and other tools to deal with. My problem arises in the DO loop waiting for Cancellation to finish. The zooming routine works for one or maybe half a dozen renders, depending on the image size, but then it hangs in that loop and never comes out.

I used to program with Visual Basic 6, so I have alot of old programs that I'm updating, plus I'm learning the new VB2008 methods. I'm writing a program that replaces the old "BitBlit" function which is no longer supported by Visual Basic 2008. It involves three picture boxes, one holds the sprite bitmap, a second holds the mask (silhouette) of the sprite bitmap, and a third has a background image.

I'm working on a design project where I have to use a Graphical User Interface that contains a drag and drop form. It consists of having a window dropped on a wall. Both of them are images to scale. I would like to know what kind of code I would have to use to show the x and y coordinates of one of the points of my window when dragged so when I drop it, I'm dropping in it on the desired coordinate of the wall.

So, basically, I need two instances of that class in my form, right?I manage to initialize two, alright. But, how exactly am I supposed tomanage drawing/graphics etc in a class, and the results to be displayed in my form?

I was wondering if I could elicit some tips on how to procede with an interface design approach. That is. What is a good way to go about establishing a "work area" where one can have multiple "floating forms" in this area. Can you have a form which occupies the entire windows desk top and the other forms "float" in this space? the "floating" forms would need to interact with each other where pressing buttons etc on them would affect other forms on the "workspace") Or what would be a good way to start accomplishing that? Or is there a better way to get the same effect?

I'm trying to make a .dll that contains a lot of basic functionality that a program can use. Currently i am trying to use interfaces to make a lot of this functionallity independend of the program using it but i hit a snag. The Basic idea is that a programmer will create his own object using the interface discribed in my .DLL file. Then implements those functions as he likes. He can then instanciate a controller (found in the same DLL) and sends his custom object implementing the interface to that Controller. The controller can then be started and will take over all the work. I do not know what type of object is send to the controller and idealy i want to program it in such a fashion that i shouldn't care as long as the object send implements that interface. In code I am trying to achieve the following: (quite simplyfied)
.Dll:
Code:
Public Interface MyInterface '<----Decleration of the interfaceFunction GetData() As Integer
Function SetData(Data As Integer)
end interface
[code]....
this propperly. I know that the second i set the interface adaptor in the Controller VS comes nagging that it can not be converted to a "MyInterface" Class. Obviously i am doing something wrong. I can change the datatype that the controller expects to the "MyController" type but that would completely ruin the whole idea of flexibillity. I am hoping someone sees what i am trying to do and can point out where i made the thinking error.

So I decided to make my famous tile selector project, but instead of drawing in a form's graphics, do it inside a tabpage.Well, I managed to get it working, but it seems to... flicker.Normally, setting the form's DoubleBuffered property to True would help a lot there, but apparently, the tabpage has no such property.
When I invalidate the tabpage, I draw two images and fill one rectangle.Following past advice, those two images were created before, just once, and are stored in a variable so I don't create them every time I invalidate the tabpage.
