Jan 4, 2009
I have a listview that is populated with data. When I select a row the data is added to my textboxes for viewing editing etc. I want the row to stay focused while I am editing a textbox. I have set the property Hide selection to false for my list view but I still lose focus of the row.

I'm using a richtextbox and I format the text (color) during keypress.. (like visual basic language: text in black, "dim" in blue, "comments" in green...) I use selection properies to do this, ok, work fine, but I see the selection and unselection.. Ok, is very fast, but it's annoying.. there is a way to format the text and hide the selection?

I'm writing a standalone application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005. I want to display/hide a bunch of Buttons based on the selected value of a ComboBox. Each selection would have a different set of Buttons to display, and I'd like to have them arranged in a nice grid.
Driving a TabControl with the ComboBox value would be the kind of behavior I want, but I don't want it to look like a TabControl to the user because it might be confusing.Is there a way to do this?
Basically, I'd like Selection1 of the ComboBox to show Buttons 1-4, Selection2 to show Buttons 5-11, Selection3 to show (maybe) Buttons 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8, etc., have them arranged nicely, and have the GUI show only the ComboBox and the buttons.

I am now using vb.net 3 months, it appears to me that basically there are 2 objects in vb.net objects and lists of objects. The rest is inherited or extended modes of these two concepts. Why then use so completely different syntax and names for two objects which appears the same : listview and datagridview. Simple version of the datagridview without the editing functionality being the listview would be much more simpler.

Is there any way to get hot tracking where it pretends to be selected when you move your mouse over a listview item, but not have it select it if the mouse is over the item for too long?

If you add a list view, then add a column, and an item, set the view to Details and run it, there will be dots around the item. Those dots will also appear whenever you select an item, along with a highlighted color. I've downloaded projects that don't have them, and when comparing I don't see any difference in listview settings between that and my listview... How do you remove those dots?

Is there any way to change the default colour to the highlight when a listview row is selected? Apparently the default blue colour causes some problems for some users who have some visual eyesight problems. They didn't tell me what colour they wanted but they did indicated the blue is annoying.

I have a listview control on a form. This listview control is populated with at times thousands of listviewitems.Part of my process, is running through custom made filters, to hide unwanted items (before they're even inserted into the listview).So as I hinted earlier, the way I hide items that I don't want is by not inserting them at all. I'd like to make a shortcut available, that would allow me to show / hide the hidden items by simply pressing the shortcut.
My problem is that if I do this, I have to 'refresh' the listview items everytime as I do now ( by removing all and re-inserting the ones I want ).Is there no faster / better way than by removing / re-inserting the items ( which takes roughly 2-3 seconds ); which is a noticeable-enough delay? for a 'visible' property on the listviewitem that I could set to true / false, but that property doesn't appear to exist.As it stands, I have to resort to removing / re-inserting the new 'view' every time.

I have a listview in details mode with multiple columns. I want to be able to temporarily hide entries. I know the old Listview.Items(x).hide = true doesn't exist (from research).I'm wondering if there's a way to create a temporary list of every item NOT to display, remove them from the listview, then when I want them back, just re add them from the list

I have a form with a listview on it. Listviews are very versatile beasts with all kinds of odd options to them, so I'm not sure if this is working the only way that it can, or not. The issue is that when I select one of the items in the listview, only one column (of two) is highlighted. I'd prefer a selection appearance similar to using a DataGridView where the whole row is highlighted. Of course, one option would be just to switch to a DGV, but that would require a bit more code to get the column widths right. So my question is whether there is some setting to get what looks like full row selection appearance in a multiselect ListView?

<LayoutTemplate>

But that column id="thDelete" is visible all the time. How do I go about hiding the column based on some condition from the code behind?

I inherit from ListView. I want my control to have an AllowCheckBoxes property rather than a CheckBoxes property.
Listview.Checkboxes is not overridable.
Can I add attributes to Listview.Checkboxes? Maybe the following?
<Browsable(False), DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)>
If not, does the following make sense?
<Browsable(False), DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)>
Public Property Shadows CheckBoxes() As Boolean

What about using
EditorBrowsableState.Never)

Working on a project that contains a listView (populated from a database already) and several textboxes. What I am trying to do, and cannot figure out, is to program this so that when a user makes a selection in the listview, it hits a specific database, and based on certain values within that databse, the textboxes are populated with things such as name and address, etc..

I already have one year experienced in c++, and built many private applications.My question is simple to ask, and simple to answer I think.When I select an item in a listview, I want the full item to be selected. Now only the TEXT in the listview item is selected. I've made a picture to clearify my problem.The picture in the link below is splitted up in two pictures. It shows what I currently have, and what I want (my aim)
