I'm developing application in VB.NET 2008. Here i have Mask Text Box with mask "0000/00/00" (i,e yyyy/mm/dd ).
but when i change the system date separator to "-" in control panel then all mask control is taking 'yyyy-mm-dd'.
I don't want to change mask text box date format based on local system setting. Always this should accept only yyyy/mm/dd .
An error that arises when I take a vb project Visual Studio 2010 that works on my local machine to a server. How precisely would I work around it?

I know you can get a currency symbol or a data format for a country using System.Globalization. However, is it possible to get the phone number format for a country from it as well. If not is there a way to get this information from the .NET Framework?
View 11 RepliesI just wondered if you can or can't save arrays using the settings system object. There seems to be no way of entering it at designtime. It seems implied you cannot create new user settings.subobjects at runtime. I'm looking to find the easiest way to save a populated array of PictureBox's. If the only way is a self/custom made/managed .ini file then I need to know so i can start on that but I was hoping to use some of all this phaff in the new frameworks usefully.
View 3 RepliesI am upgrading user control from vb6 to vb.net.In the vb6 application I am loading 3000 labels using a label control array.In vb.net I am doing same but it's taking too much time to load.In vb6 it's taking 1-2 seconds, but in vb.net it's taking 30-40 seconds for same work. Why does it take too much time in vb.net for same work?Code is given below, here Led is the label control array.

I need to change my application settings to use roaming profiles. Therefore I changed the roaming property of the according settings to True. Unfortunately I get now the behavior that the settings are still read from the local store (if they are existing there), but are written correctly to the roaming store.
What's the suggested way to change application settings from local to roaming?
I am using My.Settings to store the path of my crystal reports. Now I wish to place my crystal reports within local execute path. So how do I set within My.Settings to detect the local run path?I tried putting application.localuserappdatapath in application settings which return back as a string.

I'm taking a screenshot as a System.Drawing.Bitmap and trying to send it through a network as a byte array.If I take the original screenshot and simply save it to disk, it's about 200Kb.Instead I'm saving it to a memorystream so I can write that back to a Byte Array and it's coming out over 6Mb.

So I was looking for a list of sites to add to the system as default, I didn't find any but my friend did, but the problem is he gave me a list, for example, with lots of lines like this:

How can I remove everything from the "@" till the "http;" (including http) and remove it all so only the website name stays? I could do it by hand/notepad, but it would take forever as the list has over 2k sites I would like to add in my blacklist! I thought maybe strings could do it?

I'm writing a database program that will take various information from the user via text boxes, then save them as a *.txt file. I've already figured out the majority of that business. However, I'm having trouble programming a ListBox.
The ListBox needs to accept three pieces of information from 3 Text Boxes, then concantenate them when a button labeled 'Add' is pressed and scoot them to the ListBox (lstshowresults) while clearing the three boxes at the same time.
I would like to be able to set Control visual properties such as color, boarder, flat style, etc. on the base class of the control so that as I add new instances of the control, each instance inherits the visual properties of the base. I have tried using Application Settings but it appears as though I need to reference an application setting manually each time I add the control to a form. This is a Windows Form question.

The service connects to a remote webservice, and donwloads a file.Now I installed the service in an environment with a proxy server (http://proxy:80"). The result is that in the eventlog I get error:"unable to connect to remote server". When I start the service with a (test) account, everything works fine.Can someone tell me how I can handle a proxy environment with a service running under local system account?

I'm using the system.IO to do some copying & deletion of files and directories.This is working fine as long the service is using an user account. View 6 RepliesI have developed an ASP.Net 2.0 application and I am facing problem in sending email from my Web Server. Following is the VB code I have used to send email from my web application. Thing is when I try to send email from my local system (laptop) the email goes out fine and reaches the recipient address instantly but when I try to send email from my web server it fails.My hosting provider gave me a relay-host address for sending out email. The email goes out fine but the relay host has an annoying amount of delay in email delivery which is a problem during the sign up process.

I have tried the above settings and they work fine from outlook and the application when tried on my laptop but these settings fail on web server.I want to send email from my web server without using a relay-host.
I've been reading a lot of articles here and there, really, for the past two days, searching for a good local storage system. I have no immediate use for now, so I am just exploring my choices. By saying 'local storage system,' I'm talking about some sort of database used for applications that let users manage and organize personal accounts (bank accounts, web site accounts, application licenses...). I do use XML to store user settings. But if you have to manage lots of information locally, XML won't probably be good enough, I'm afraid.
So what are choices Visua Basic users? Well, as I often mention, I develop Mac software products. And I use SQLite. In fact, every one of some 40 apps sold at Mac App Store uses SQLite for good reasons. I know that you can use SQLite with Visual Studio after installing a package from sqlite.phxsoftware.com. But I don't know if your application can reproduce a database file when necessary. That being said, I'm looking for a system that I can use to create a file programmatically especially when the user launches it for the first time. So what do you use to locally manage large information? SQL Express? SQLite? XML?

View 10 RepliesI am trying to create a data entry system for a local community group. I am working with VB.NET 2010 and MSAcess 2000. I am completely new to using a DB in VB.Net. I have created a form with the membership table bound as details on the form and the classes they are attending as a DataGridView. I used all the Visual Studio GUI tools for this. It was reasonably straightforward once I got the hang of things. My problems arise when I try to ensure that a user cannot move to a new record or create a new member without first saving any changes they have made.
I am using ColumnChanging events in the ...DataSet.vb class to set flags to indicate whether any data values have been changed on the form. My problem is that the ColumnChanging events for the classes DGV fire immediately on changing the data whereas the ones for the member details don't fire until I start to move to a new record. I don't know if it is important but my member navigation is achieved by means of a combobox on the form that lists the member names from the table. I have absolutely no idea why this works - it just did; the form updates as soon as the user selects a new member in the combo box.
My final goal is that striking F12 prints the date (through SendKeys) in the application/window having currently the focus (Word, Excel, Outlook, whatever). I have consequently implemented a globak keyboard hook (system-wide), which is running well (source code below).
My concern is that I would like to prevent any other local treatment based on F12. For instance, striking F12 under Microsotft Word prints the date is the open document (which is fine!) but also launches the "Save as..." dialog box, since F12 is a local shortcut/keybinding under Word. (Actually, the date is printed within a field of a the "Save as..." dialog box). I want to avoid this.
In other words, my aim is to improve the "hook" below so that striking F12 does what I want (which is already the case) but nothing more. That is to say, I would like that, except my treatment, the system "forgets" that F12 was striken.

The following steps give a Guest shutdown policy.
1- Click run, and type the gpedit.msc, to start "Local Group Policy Editor".
2 -Expand "Computer Configuration" -> "Windows Settings" -> "Security Settings" -> "Local Policies" -> Then click "User Rights Assignment".
3- In the Policy window, Select "Force shutdown from a remote system", double click it, it will pop a properties window.
4- Click "Add user or group button", add a user and name it Guest.
I need to know if it's possible to manipulate and add the user or group programmatically. I'm using Visual Basic 2008.
