I am using MDI Parent and Child form. In MDI Child form there are 2 Tab Pages when i navigate Tab Pages the whole MDI Child move up and down. In MDI Parent both horizontal and vertical scroll bar. I dont want that the MDI Chil window is moving.

View 1 RepliesI am creating a user control where when a user clicks a button a popup window will show up with information. The popup window is driven by a toolStripDropDown so when it shows up it does 2 things
Does not move the other controls on the form around but displays over them That it can show the details outside the bounds of the user control itself without having to reserve the space ahead of time

Now my issue is as the form moves or resizes the Tooldropdown does not move relative. I understand that. When I try to capture the move event of the user control that event does not fire when the entire form moves. There has to be something I can capture because the controls in the container of the form move relative, what drives that? I tried wndproc but nothing fires during form move unless the form is repainted.
I have an MDI application which uses fixed sized forms. I've started to change the forms to sizeable and anchored the controls so they move when the form is resized. If the child form has a menu this jumps onto the parent menu (as it always has done) but all the controls move up the form at runtime and leave a space at the bottom of the child. If I change the form in design mode to cut through the bottom controls i.e. so the form doesn't appear tall enough, it corrects itself at runtime. Is there another workaround as it looks misleading in the designer.

View 3 RepliesI've created a tab control and on one of the pages I added a button, but I cannot move the button around with the mouse!? I can change the buttons position within the tab control page using the property Location and I can size the button using the mouse and the button is NOT locked. I even tried creating a new project with just the tab control and it still does the same thing. I can, tho, move the button using the keyboard arrows!
I'm using VS2010 V10.0.30319.1 RTMREL on WinXP SP3.
What I am doing is making a Media Player, but I am making it to be some sort like BS Player.
The Video part of the player is on its own with no border and then there is going to be a separate Form for the controls. (I might need help with that later) But the first thing that I have to do is make the window movable and re-sizable by dragging the Media Player (WMP). WMP is taking up the whole screen of the Form so there is no where to click on the original Form. If possible, I would like it to show contents while dragging, ignoring the Windows Appearance and Performance. If that can't be done or is to much work, I will settle for just the border of the Form being showed while moved.
For re-sizing, the media player has to stay the same size as the form, but it also has to stay the same Ratio of the video. So as long as I can specify the current height and width of the window and also get then get the width while the window is being re-sized, I can get the height that the window needs to be by using this formula.
Window.y / Window.x * Sized Window.x = New Window.y .
I know that may sound complicated or maybe I am making it harder then it actually is, this is just how I know how to do it. I will explain what each variable in the Formula means.
Window.y is the current height of the window
Window.x is the current width of the window
Sized Window.x is the width of the window while it is being re-sized
New Window.y is the final height for the new size of the window
I created a dataset.xsd and it contains two table adapters and these table adapters use stored procedure for select.in my vb form, i get value in text box and then fill table using tableadapter and pass parameter to sp. Till this point everything is working fine. Now these tables have relations and i want to create relationship and show the data from child table on basis of master table. How i can do it?

I'm creating an application that uses an MDI container to create a sort of desktop style for my form with a group of icons docked to the left hand side. The rest of the form is the desktop area that I want all windows to open in.If I use the standard File-New option that is provided by VB as a default for the MDI container this works fine and a child window is loaded.If I use similar code from one of the icons this also works fine.y problem is that one of my child forms is a search panel and when I double click on one of the results I want a window to open, but as an MDI child. However, this doesnt happen. When I open the window it opens as a completely separate window and isn't docked within the MDI parent. It also appears on the task bar as a separate application.

Scenario I have an MDI form with a UserControl docked at the top. The UserControl is for navigation and is ~50 pixels in height. The following code does create a form within a form and does place NotePad inside the child form. You have to manually start NotePad prior to execution (I work on that later) but the code does workŠ My problem is now I want to manipulate the properties of notepad i.e. focus, size, location, etc. but I cannot figure out how to reference notepad and its properties.

What is the best way to resize & move a form using just VB commands? I have a form that I need to set the Height and Top props, problem is that takes two calls and there is a noticable flicker. I tried using SuspendLayout/ResumeLayout, DoubleBuffered, swaping the top and height calls around, etc, but nothing seems to help. The test forms only have one small listview and one or two buttons. As Autodesk is going to discontinue VBA for their Inventor product in the near future I have been looking at other ways to run VB.NET in Inventor. To date it doesn't look like VSTA will be the replacement. Automation from an External VB.NET app is certainly possible, but leaves something to be desired for speed and integration. Compiled Add Ins are the Cadillac of choice but can be a royal pain to debug and develop. Autodesk now provides a lightweight VB.NET script interface called iLogic. It's main purpose is to allow extreme customization of Solid Modeling parts. The code actually resides inside the Part Model file.

I have a VB. Net App where I want the user to open a modeless form which contains reference information about items in a select box. If the user double clicks the item selected in the list box a modal form is opened to edit the item.I want the previously opened reference form to remain active/enabled, that is, I want the user to be able to click on it, move it, etc.I was able to get the form to at least show up on the task bar by setting it's "ShowInTaskBar" property to true, however, when it comes to the front the user can still not move it to the side to view all of the Edit Forms information.

View 7 RepliesIt has to be a simple line of code but I do not know how to construct it. Using VB 2010 Express, I have a MDI parent form and many child forms. I want the parent form to determine what child form is active and load data into the RichTextBox1 on the child form. Each Child form has a RichTextBox1. The parent form gets its data by loading a file.
I am close to a solution but just can't get there. You will see in the code below, if I make a direct reference to a specific child form, it works great. What I want to do is to use the Active Form function to determine which form to write to. I have looked at the MS tutorial which gets me close.

View 4 RepliesI have a program I've been working on for some time now and I'd like to try to streamline it somewhat. I have a main menu form that has a split panel, in the left panel is a treeview that displays forms you can open and when one is selected, it opens in a child window in the right panel. Each time I open form I called DWNForm, it does a series of dataset loads which are the populating items for a series of listviews.
What I would like to do is have these datasets load once during the mainMenu load and then have the DWNForm be able to access the datasets once it is called from the treeview selection.
I have two forms. Form A and Form B. Form A has a datagrid that is populated from a SQL Database Table query. When a button is pressed Form B is launched that allows you to add a record to the database table. I need for the datagrid to be refreshed and show the newly added record when I close form B and go back to the parent.

I want to create an IMAGELIST in a main form and add to it then have it accessible within a child form. I found several MS examples on database shared access but this is NOT the concept I am after. Straight forward:
Child_Form.<function_to_execute_in_child_form>(The_Passed_Imagelist)
So, within the child form it want to do whatever I like to the IMAGELIST! I have tried passing the object by reference and anything I could think of.
When I open my child form,
frm_Analogs.ShowDialog()
It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?
