View 2 RepliesI am having a problem convincing Visual Studio and the compiler to use the correct method overload, possibly because of inheritance.
Given these objects:
Public Class Matrix
...
End Class
[code]....
I use MVC a a programming pattern, in Win apps i simply pass the form to the controller. [code]...
View 2 RepliesI am working on this project and I am suppose to overload the method to allow strings instead of integer. Allow the user optionally add a thried string from a third text box. Okey I am trying to under stand this good. This is the code I have:
This is my overload class
Public Class OverloadEx
[CODE]........................
So with my overload class instead of integer I should put string there? If the user clicks the add button it will allow the user to add all 3 text boxes but when the user click the add string it will allow the user to add all three text boxes to string. So do I click the add string button to overload it to that one just like I did with the add?
Is there anyway to add an overload "extension method" to a method that already has one or more extension methods? For example theString.Contains method has two extension methods totalling 3 separate versions. Is there anyway to add an extra extension method also called "Contains" ?By the way I have tried it but the IDE does not seem to recognise additional EXTENSION methods where a method already hasone or more extension methods. Is there anyway around this restriction? In other words I would like to be able to change the Extension method below from"Contain" to "Contains" but it seems it is not recognised.
Option Strict On
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles

I have written a method to replace multiple characters in a string. Is it possible to overload my own method to the existing method "Replace" in the String namespace?
Function Replace(ByVal inValue As String, ByVal ParamArray replacechars() As String) As String
For i As Integer = 0 To UBound(replacechars) Step 2
[Code].....
As you can see it have a different signature from the public method so I think it would be nice to have my method overloading the existing method
I can live with it if it isn't possible. See it as a "nice to have"
I want to catch the event of deletion, renaming or copying a file in Windows Explorer. For example, if a folder contains the files "test.a" and "test.b", and that I remove "test.a", then my program will remove the two (same for copy and rename).I know how to add an entry to the context menu of Windows. But the goal isn't to add functionality to Windows. The goal is to redefine an existing function.

View 5 Repliesi want to which way is better when concentration is on processing speed. i want to call a method that compute some data that method is on another form in my windows form application then what you prefer is better way 1) to call that method in another form and use returned value or create similar method in form where it is required.i want to make it's processing fast.

View 1 RepliesHow do I add a main method in vb.net Windows App?
I tried to add Module.vb file and declared main method there and then when I also to change the startup object Properties-> Application, I dont see option of Main method?
Consider a MyForm class that contains a shadowed implementation of Show(). It also contains a CreateForm() method, which accepts an instance of the form and calls the shadowed sub:

It is possible to create windows service using windows form control in vb.net. give me the url or links. The windows forms control such as, Timer control, list-box, notify-icon control etc.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to somehow invoke foo("SomeAwesomeString") from VBScript directly (i.e., without it having to launch an additional process)?
The use case is this: I am trying to write an 'extension' application for hMailServer (hMS), but hMS can only invoke VBscript scripts when an event happened. I can have the VBscript launch an .exe every time the event happened, but the processing involve opening and closing a connection to a back-end database. So, every invocation is very expensive. I had been thinking that I can reduce the expense by having a Service to maintain the connection (i.e., opening it once and re-open it if the connection closed). Plus by implementing the processing as background worker threads will result in a non-blocking processing + less process-starting overhead.
I have a windows service application to send emails. The same code works well with windows application but not with windows service.
Private Sub Timer_Elapsed(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs) Handles Timer.Elapsed
EventLog.WriteEntry("Started!!!!")
Dim cmd As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand[code].....
I Need Build a user control which works as a Login control using Windows Class Library or Component Template:The user control returns the user name and the password It means that the control has minimum two ReadOnly Property procedures. You let the user of your control (he/she which uses your control in his/her software) to set the background colour of the two labels. Create a Windows application to test your control.
View 10 Replies1. On the main form a scanner class is instantiated that (in the scanner's constructor) sets the scanner settings (baud rate, parity, etc) and opens the scanner for use
2. A barcode is scanned (via a scanner connected to the device in a seral port) while on the main form
3. In the scanner class, the DataRecieved event gets the needed info from the scanned code.
4. Then that info is passed back to the main form to a method RunCommandCode (which takes the scanned info as an argument)
5. On the main form the RunCommandCode calls another method CommandCodeHandler, passing the scanned info again
6. In the CommandCodeHandler sub a method is called in a Utils class (SetSelectedTab), which interacts with the form itself (determines how many tabs exist on a tab control), which is the reason for the invoke in the first place
So, before I figured out I needed to use the Invoke method (and, more specifically, that the scanner was working in a different thread), I was getting an error in step 6 on the line that got the TabControl.TabPages.Count.

I am new to VS and evaluating VS 2010. I am trying to create a wizard type control, on which various controls are on each tab. I then want to turn off the tab description and outline and control which tab controls are displayed by programmatically selecting each or one specific tab. Also require to be able to place a control above a tab (not on any of the tabs, which will mean that the control is visible whenever the form is displayed
I am trying to duplicate the characteristics of the Clarion (Soft Velocity) language tab control.
I have noticed that the tab control does have a "visible" attribute and if turned off that none of the tabs are visible. I guess what I need is a "visible" attribute (most probably inhereted from the parent tab control ) which can be programmatically changed.
First forms project. My textbook [wrox VB 2880 Programmer's Reference, Rod Stephens] gives snippet that starts with [which intnellisense completes, except for variable names, including trailing 'paint' which seems to be the problem]
Public Class Form1
Private Sub form1_paint(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TableLayoutCellPaintEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Paint
End Sub
End Class
which generates error :
Error 1 Method 'Private Sub form1_paint(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.TableLayoutCellPaintEventArgs)' cannot handle event
'Public Event Paint(sender As Object,
e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs)' because they do not have a compatible signature
.
Changing 'Private' to 'Public' does not fix the error.
So in my window onLoad method I am pre-populating a grid with values retrieved from a database. Here is the method below for the window load:
Private Sub winMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
''#Load Grid
Dim dt As New DataTable
With dt
[code].....
What happens is, when I press F5 to debug, the program loads, and the grid is still empty, just as it is without a datasource. When I try to step through the code, it actually reaches down to the line that reads
Budgets = BudgetManager.Process.Budget.GetAllBudgets()
and then stepping over this line...the window loads and it doesn't go any further in the method. What the line of code above does is eventually make a execution call of some SQL to a SQLite database, and the code gets to the point at which it calls the execute method, but doesn't even make the query yet. All the objects up until that point in the code are set properly as well (found through debugging and checking locals.)Edit:Exception is this:
"Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information.
How can I refer to the control while I am inside a control's method in VB.NET?For example, I want in a textbox to show a message box with that textbox's text every time the text changes. The code would be something like:
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged
[code].....
I have a Deployment project which creates an MSI setup file to install a service. (VB .NET) I have a reference to another project which is a win form application and has a setup form which takes the user name, password and some other settings information which will be used by a service. It has "Finish" and "Cancel" buttons. I am creating a new instance of this form on Sub New() of the ProjectInstaller Class, so user can input information, click Finish and installation completes. The service is then automatically started. Now, when I click Cancel on the settings form, I am not able to exit out and halt the installation process. Instead it installs the service !! How can I use the Rollback or Uninstall methods to do the task? I was trying this -
On cancel_click, set boolean var cacelStatus = True
On Sub New() method of ProjectInstaller class, I am checking - If true - uninstall, else - install
How can I achieve this?
I use VB in VS2010..My form has a textbox..I can control the keyboard entry by using the SuppressKeyPress method..However this does not work for the Menu key - I think it's the menu key - the one that looks like a combo with an arrow. This produces a large drop-down menu which I don't want.On checking various forums it appears that the following code should work..[code]
View 1 RepliesWhen you click on a button control on a web form visual studio automatically put in this code for you in the code behind.
Protected Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnFlightInfo.Click
end Sub
Say for example, I wanted to call this method from another method. How would I do that? I know that the sender is the actual button object, but what is e? Here is what I have so far inside another sub. Just trying to get a better understanding of how this method works.
btnSave_Click(btnSave, ??what would you put there??)
Ive tried searching for hours now and cannot find out why my code (aka, me.) is failing
Basically... I have a listview control which I'm passing a datatable of products (ID, Name, Description and Price columns), and im trying to make it so that when the "checkout" button is pressed, it parses through all the controls on the page, finds all the controls with the correct ID's and adds the items values to the cart.
ive checked all my ID's in the source code and they match up to the ones being requested by the FindControl method.[code]...
I am still in the conceptual(planning) stage so I do not have a code to show as an example.[code]...
Example: A user visits the form, the cursor by default(Tab Order) is in the first TextBox. If the user tries to leave the box without
entering any information an error is displayed. The user cannot leave the TextBox(MaskTextBox) unless they enter valid data.
If the user enters valid data the error message goes off and the user is able to leave to the next TextBox.
I also have a bunch of RadioButtons, CheckBoxes and NUD that I would like the user to play with without trigger the error messages on the TexBoxes. If the user click a check box or radio button, I need the error message to stay off, the error message should only trigger if a user click in a text box and a: Decides to leave without entering data or b: enters a wrong data.
I know other ways to do this, example using a submit button to do this. However is my idea possible? Can you have a field(controls) the validate on leave and click other fields(controls) without triggering it?[code]...
I need to have a specific process(method) run once a day at a given time and was wondering if this can be done using the timer control.
View 2 RepliesI'm using the following method to move a picture box that is in a 24, 24 panel:[code]This is obviously the worst way of doing this. But, it's the first thing I could think of and Googling has brought me no luck so far.
View 3 RepliesI want to create a custom control (let say textbox), after build, when I place that custom control on a form, all the properties for the default textbox are available.
1- How to Hide them and only show the wanted property and method?
2- Is there a Wizard or custom tool for creating custom control or I had to do every thing by coding?
Is it possible to dynamically direct a particular control's event to use a predefined method. For example.I have a form which I dynamically add controls to, let's say, TextBox1,TextBox2 and TextBox3 and a module which as 3 routines, Method1, Method2, Method3. When I dynamically add my controls, eg TextBox4, I want to choose which of the 3 methods I want mapped to which event.
