I am building an ASPX web site which has several pages and multiple users.I grab specific info about each user such as UserName, ID, etc. when they start a session and I need to retain this info and have access to it from each page (which has it's own class).I know i can create a global file and share variables publicly, but i need the variable values to be specific to the user, not the entire application.

View 12 RepliesI need to share variables across two forms in vb.net. One of them is the main form and the other is a child form.
Create a static/shared variable in one of the forms and access it in the other forms via:
Form1 frm = new Form1(); //creating object of parent to access shared variable
frm.a = "abc"; // passing value
Send an instance of the main form to the child form when creating the child form. The variables can then be accessed via a property function. Create global variables in a module. This seems like the easiest option, but I doubt it is the best option.I also read something about delegates and events, but I don't know how to implement this.
if for example i have two private sub I declared a local variable on private sub a... is there a way that private sub b could use the variable created on private sub a? Im asking because im in a problem in my app were using global variable is not an option to make the long story short

View 12 RepliesI've got a problem losing session variables in an ASP/VB.NET application. The application allows searching for an item or it can show an item if provided with a unique link (in the browser). It holds information about the item in session variables. In the webpage showing an Item a user can click a button which opens a window with additional information about the item - obtained from a session variable. When I search for the item using the search engine and click the button - it works OK.
When I copy the link to a browser: the item is shown, however clicking the button returns a 'null exception' - the session variables with information about the item are lost. Moreover when I provide the link for the second time the button works, the variables are there!

I have a program that allows a user to select a program to run at a certain time for a specific amount of time all choosen by the user. Everything works with the exception of if my program has launched the other program, my program become non-responsive. Meaning I am not able to look at that window again. Not that one really needs too, because when time is up my program closes the program it opened, then closes itself. I just want to be able to see my program when the other program is running. how to do this and perhaps drop me some links, that would be wonderful. This is what I have coded, but like I stated there are no code errors.

I have looked at system.Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable but it gives the system environment variables like USERNAME, COMPUTERNAME etc. I need to get the variables that are stored in config.user file. Is there any way to do that in VB>NET.

An integral part of the program that i'm working on is a DataGrid which I am filling from three different queries, based on the user's input. The Grid properties are coded with specific requirements for each of the queries. I have two simple (hopefully) problems.
1) There is no scroll bar on the grid and I can't find a property or event that will allow me to add the Vertical Scroll Bar. How do I do that.
2) The grids contain only four columns each. I want the user to be able to click on a cell and populate four string variables.

I need to be able to add a user's code to the end of the url of each page they go to. I am a user, go to my site and type in my user code - which is NOT a login. There is no password, in theory there will be a box or some type of control that will allow a user to enter their code in. This control will then add that user's code to the end of each URL for every page in the site and will also auto-populate all of the products in our database that are tied to that code. The user is like a business or affiliate marketer. We need that code at the end of each URL that way when he sends his clients emails with links in them for purchasing, the client will click the link, and that marketer will get credit for the sale(s).

The "IB" gets underlined and says it must be followed by an equal (=) sign and a value. Or if in quotation marks, they must match.
How do you use user specific folders like the appdata I was making a program that wooed back up folders on different computer without editing the code. So how use folders that you can get to by putting present shins around like %appdata%

2.) User input textbox 2.50 to 30.0 inches only accepted.
3.) User input textbox 6, 8, & 10 nominal input only accepted.
4.) User input textbox 60% or 65% only accepted.
5.) User input textbox 2.50 to 30.0 inches only.
6.) User input textbox where 500 shows up in the box as "standard" but can be changed by user input.
Then an "OK & Cancel" button. I don't know whether to use a dialog box or a form, what class, masked text box vs. not masked, etc.
On my datatable (I hope that's the correct word) I have two columns that I want to store color values. I changed the data type to "System.Drawing.Color".
However it would appear I cannot simply type in the string (e.g: "Color.Black") to add it to the database. And when using an update SQL query and make it look for color values on the form, it wants to convert them to string.
Is it possible to store color values like this in this way or do I have use another method?

View 4 RepliesI am trying to prevent the User from proceeding if a specific text box is empty. All of the following lines of code SEEM TO work:
If txtTitle.text = "" Then.....
If txtTitle.Text = Nothing Then.....
If txtTitle.text = Nothing Then.....
(followed by a message box advising of the need for input)
The problem is, if the User enters a space (either accidentally or intentionally) all three of the above recognize the space as a valid entry.

It finds and deletes all the files in the "program files" directorys but there are also certain files in My Documents that must be deleted.
The problem is the filepath to My Documents includes a username which is unique to different users, meaning on any other pc the program will not work.
The path on my computer is: C:UsersShaneDocumentsElectronic Arts
How can I get the program to find this folder on other computers? I'm totally lost.

I have a text box labled QTY, which feeds the QTY column on a datatable. the table then is ran through a function that takes the data and converts it to a string which my production machine can read. My problem is this, and its probably really simple (these problems usually are) how to i force the user to use a specific type of input on the txtbox so they would have to put the QTY in the format of 01 02 03 etc etc, i have it set to default to 00 but i want to force the user to haver to input 2 chars.

In my userform, users are required to input a start and a end time in 24 hour time format. I am struggling to work out how best to analyze the selected times in order to multiply them by a set of rates, the rates are quite simple:
DayHours rate (day time is between 07:00 - 22:59)
NightHours rate (night time is between 23:00 - 06:59)
I cannot workout the logic to ascertain how many hours have been selected for which rate in an elegant manner, my best attempts so far are clunky and not quite there.
