I am trying to set the variables, 'min and 'max' from user selected preferences. But, since the code where the variables go is outside of the private sub, I can't figure out where to put the code to retrieve the data from the file.

I'm trying to save user preferences in a file, when the account is made, an XML file is created with default values:
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>

So basically i'm trying to set the colour of fonts and split containers, using the names of the colours which are stored within an XML file that each use has. ( the values are read in correctly as i set labels to test them out. )
I need to have the ability to have a Global variable/class that stores some basic information about the currently logged in user including that user's preferences, security rights, UserID, etc. This information will be needed by any/every part of my application. In the past I have either used a Public variable/class in a vb.net module for this purpose. I'm trying to get away from my old ways of doing things and was curious what people currently do for this functionality.
I am thinking a singleton or 2 regarding preferences and security but am not sure if that is the best way to go.

I want to save my preferences for a program. I just want to know how to do it, since I cant get how to save this file at my documents, because every computer has a different name and username, but using the My.User.Name returns 'USERNAME-PC-USERNAME' which doesn't work. For example, I want the program to create this text file 'CPreferences' at 'C:Users'username'Documents'. And then when the program is re-opened it will automatically load this file into itself, the file will basically contain 2 lines:

View 2 RepliesMy HP LaserJet 1018 Printer Preferences has "Paper options" with four options: Use different paper, Size is, source is, Type is. "Type is" has options such as: Plain, label, card stock, envelope etc. Apparently this information is relayed to the printer and affects its operations. In my case when I put in labels the heavier paper is not pulled correctly and the registration is often off. How can I choose one of these from VB 2008 .NET? I find "paper size" but not "type is" among the many options for Printer Settings.

An integral part of the program that i'm working on is a DataGrid which I am filling from three different queries, based on the user's input. The Grid properties are coded with specific requirements for each of the queries. I have two simple (hopefully) problems.
1) There is no scroll bar on the grid and I can't find a property or event that will allow me to add the Vertical Scroll Bar. How do I do that.
2) The grids contain only four columns each. I want the user to be able to click on a cell and populate four string variables.

Just wondering if it possible to save a form. I have a form with dgv and various other user selected options.
Is there a way to save this form on closing so that it will open again exactly as it was closed?
I am loading a Gridveiw for a stored procedure-that works well. What I am having trouble with, is when the user clicks the select button. That should return the value of the row, (I cant seem toreturn the selected row value?)

how do i retrieve the name of a file that a user selected that they want to delete?

Is it i save using the my.setting part? but i'm not so sure abt the setting type. AS there doesnt seem to have system.drawing.image.
So here it is : how can iI get info about the file that user selected in windows ? For example: the user browse to C:windows (it isn't important where maybe desktop) through explorer and select a file ( he/she just select it, not open ). the moment that the file is being selected, how can I get info about that file? I think the file path is enough. I can get the rest detail with path.
View 7 RepliesI'm building an online shop, but have run into a problem.When the user click that they want to add a product to their basket, i add the product ID to an array that is held on the session.This all works great and i display how many items they have selected etc..The problem comes when i get to the checkout page.Whats the best way of displaying the items that the user has selected?
should i use a datagridview? if so, how do i pass the array into the SQL in order to get all the data rows that i need?
should i use a repeater? this gives me the same problem as above though.I just cant seem to work out how to get the values fro the array and then run the sql for each ID to get the information to show on the screen.I could loop through the array using each ID as a parameter in the SQL but then where do i put the data? in a dataset? a datatable?
