Are there any tools available for automatically formatting vb.net code - specifically for adding line breaks at a predefined line length? I'm working with a lot of code with long lines (thousands of lines), and manually reformatting it is quite time consuming. I've seen a number of tools for rearranging code into regions etc., but haven't found any that reformat with line breaks.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to use the xml comments suggested (with VB in a ASP.net project in Visual Studio 2008).I want to give examples of how to use a class, for example, so I write [code]This is readable in the code itself, but the resulting help information in the Object Browser is unusable.The summary, parameters and returns stuff is OK,but the example code is all as one block, with a single space instead of the line endings.I know that most XML treats all whitespaces the same (space, line ending, etc.) but since <code> is described as being for multi-line code blocks, I expected it to respect line endings and indentation.Ideally it would colour-code the code as visual studio does, but the least it should do is respect space (similar to the HTML <pre> tag).Otherwise how is it useful for multi-line code blocks?
View 1 RepliesI recently found this code (provided for third party use on another VB site), however,ll of my attempts to insert it into a class library have failed.I open a new class library and past the code in, and immediately get several errors pertaining to how certain objects can't be found. I find it it is crucial to use this code, unless someone can suggest to me another example of existing code that will do the same thing: make a restricted textbox who imputs can be restricted, that can handle pasting, shortcuts, text property setting, and script-entered text.

I am writing data from a vb project to an XML document. When I recall the data, all the previous notes are coming back as one long line of text. How can I break the lines by submission to the XMl document?

I got a program that generates 4 strings which I want to output to a RichTextBox. Getting them there isn't the problem, its getting them on separate lines I am puzzled with. As of right now, they are all just lined up one after the other, which isn't practical for what I need. I simply need 1 output per line, i.e.:

Output3
and so on.

my interface is like this, i've put 4 text boxes above, followed by a Generate Button in the middle and a multiline text box below the Generate button (please see the attachment)

I am reading a field from my database that has line breaks in it and displaying it on an aspx page. I want to maintain the line breaks on the page. I believe this is more of a VB.NET issue than a DB problem. [URL]

I am pretty sure that CourseHours.Value contains the cr-lf's I am looking for. I attached a screen shot of my debugging session. When I query CourseHours.Value I see boxes or squares which I believe is signitying CR-LF. But my split is only ending up with one array element and it is a long string with all the course hours concatenated. What do I need to Split on?

I have a WinForms app with a multi-line textbox. This displays and retains (after loading from the DB) line break characters fine. However if I assign the TextBox.Text value to a string variable and then re-assign the variable back to the TextBox.Text property, the line break characters are lost and replaced with a square character (can't past them here as they just paste as a line break!)

I have written a program that will gather data from several different COM ports and reformat the data before sending it to a web site. This program is intended to run 24/7, but only send the information at user specified intervals. I have the routines to gahter data, but I only need it to perform this task at the specified time (5 minutes to each hour). At startup the dialog minimizes to the system tray. I would like a balloon message notifiy anyone watching that the data is about to be sent, and allow them to add additional comments if they choose (by clicking on the balloon). The system tray icon has several context menu items that the user may need. Is this the proper use of a background thread? I would also like opinions on the best method for pausing execution until the specified time.

finally my programme works. It will test the other programme, which is a Bid Tabulation programme allowing up to 10 Supplier Quotes each one having up to 500 line items; handling mixed currencies; many additional lines of specific information; etc.; using any combination of Suppliers and Line Items.However, I thought that I would let you know about some of the things I had to do to make it run.Obviously, the programme can bring up the Bid Tabulation programme very quickly, and then moves on to obtain the handle of the first form. But I had to insert a timing delay in order for the programme to report that it had found the handle; I also had to add the same delay all over the programme in order to see a valid handle number instead of "0".In addition to this I had to cycle through the ChildHandles, as you had indicated in order to get to the handle I needed. This raised another problem. I wanted to enter information in the same sequence as the tab order, but I found that the ChildHandle order was all over the place; generally back to front. In other words the tab order which went from top to bottom, and left to right, whereas the ChildHandle order was sometimes all over the place.
Is there a simple method of rearranging the ChildHandle order, as there is for arranging the tab order? I had to reformat several of my forms in order that entries would make sense. Imagine the table below is a form with 23 TextBoxes. The order that I need them to be filled is from top to bottom, and left to right, but the actual order of the TextBoxes is as below: [code] This message does not really require a resolution to a problem, unless there is a way of re-ordering the handles without having to completely reformat the form.
