View 1 RepliesI would like to know how to invoke the Windows Security Dialog (press ctrl+alt+del on a windows workstation NOTE: i dont want the task manager!) programatically.ON AN XP WORKSTATION, don't worry about Win7 or Vista with a quick example in C# (or VB.NET if you must)Ive searched many of the DLL's such as msgina.dll and i can't find it anywhere!
View 4 RepliesI have a treeview control which is being used to browse various folder on the users system drive. It can also be set up to connect network folders using UNC paths e.g "serverfiles". At the moment I'm getting a list of Directories by using My.Computer.FileSystem.GetDirectories however this obviously fails when the folder is password protected.
Is there a way that I can get Windows to open the credentials dialog as you would see in Windows Explorer and deal with the credentials side so then the user name & password is cached as well?
I use VB.Net 2003 and in my application I create a folder that I will use to create files in it.My problem is that under Windows 7 this folder dont have a full permissions and the files are not been created. Is there any way that I can give full access permissions to this folder?I can do it via VB.Net 200358 and via my Wise installation system.
View 3 RepliesOne of my application is taking a lot of time on Windows 7 compared to XP. What application basically does is it creates some PDF files reads the content and emits on a form and then deletes the files. I ran ANT profiler on both XP and Win 7, and i could notice some differences. On win 7 some CAS related methods are widely called and those method calls were missing on XP.. Is this the reason ? If someone has faced similar issues,
View 4 RepliesI'm looking for a straightforward means of pulling all the users who have access to a folder with vb.net.All I need is the user name, not the type of access they have.
View 1 RepliesI'm creating a windows application form in vs 2005 for a client.. It's a data-tracking application. I have a few questions. The client wants a logon screen to be added into the application (at least any way or method that'll ensure that security was applied). My question in regards to this topic would be; Is it necessary to create a logon screen (or even a user authorization) for a windows form? I realize that in a webform project, security should always be considered and should be applied in all areas. Although with a windows form, I thought you can authorize who can gain access to the application by defining which workstations to install the final production release of the application (when its time to deploy the file). Is this correct?
My next question is, what is the best method to exporting data from EXCEL to SQL tables? I have many Excel files that I'd like to take portions of data from each file and insert them to there proper table.
The last question is about deploying a windows form application. As you can tell, I don't have much experience when it comes to developing Windows Form projects. Anyways back to the topic, When deploying a project, does it provide a .EXE file (installation package) to install the application on the workstation? Or is it a .EXE file of the application, where you can run it and no need to install anything?
I'm writing a backup program for personal (for the moment at least) use.
For some directories (network directories / protected directories) credentials are needed to access them.
I can setup different jobs in the program to run at specific times.
These jobs are stored in an XML file.
I want to also store the usernames and passwords which the jobs will need.
What and where would be the best way to store these?
Changing permissions on the directories is not an option.
I am trying to control the security board using the Windows Firewall which connects to my server that was made in VB.Net. My only problem is when I open the Windows Firewall my server crashes. It also displays this error: "Error, win%fir%90y4e does not support this server. upgrade you version of Winsock.". So I upgraded myself to the latest Winsock that there is out there. After doing so I try again and my server still crashes, but this time with a different error. The error this time was the following: "Error, no client is available for win%fir%90y4e. try again later.". What do I do?

How do you register a name for a program in the windows run dialog? For instance typing in "notepad" and pressing enter runs notpad.exe "photoshop" in my case runs Photoshop CS3 I'm using vb2005.net.

View 1 RepliesWhen I call the save dialog object to prompt the user for a new file name, sometimes it does not appear as the active window, it is occasionally popping under all the open windows, and you have to minimize all of them back to the desktop to find it. What sort of problem would cause this, and is there a way to force it to the front?

View 19 RepliesI have a simple program that runs in the background and when the user presses a certain key will take a printscreen and pop up a save file dialog to save an image. But sometimes the save dialog is not appearing because it loads buried under other pre-existing windows, which have to be minimized in order to find it. Is there any way to force this dialog to be on top?
View 11 RepliesCurrently i am using wpf with vb ,vs2008,framework 3.5 ,there i am having code to connect with camera and capturing video.
Code :
If SendMessage(Me.hWnd, WM_CAP_DRIVER_CONNECT, 0, 0) <> 0
Then
'---set the preview scale---
[code]....
Here in this code while executing the bold ,italic marked line ,a dialog box appearing to select video source even if one option is there(i.e i have connected one camera to my pc through usb). Its coming in windows 7 not in xp ( Same code ). Is there any setting to stop this dialog box or to select the video source in code without showing the dialog box.
I am using a Windows Dialog form in my VB 2008 project. I bring up the dialog form no problem with the following
Dim resultNewInc As DialogResult
resultNewInc = frmDialog.ShowDialog()
If resultNewInc = DialogResult.OK Then
...some code here ...
End If
And in the Dialog Form, the OK button has code
Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK
Me.Close()
But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.
I am using Process.Start(fileName) to let Windows open certain files outside of my application with their 'default application'.If "fileName" for example is a ".txt" file, it opens the file in Notepad. If it is a folder, it opens windows explorer with that folder selected. This all seems to work well, except when the user enters a file that has no application 'linked' to it.(a file that has no file associations)I have wrapped the Process. Start() in a Try/Catch block so that any errors are caught and displayed. When I now open a file without any file associations (windows does not know with which application to open it) it tells me that it cannot find any application to open it with. (The exact error is in dutch so I don't think that's going to be much help here, but I think it's clear what's happening, no?)What I would like to happen in this case is that the windows "Open With" dialog comes up, asking the user to select an application to open the file with. Now it just displays the error message and continues, making it impossible for the user to open the file unless he browses to the file manually and sets up the file association, something many users probably don't know how to do.
View 8 RepliesI'm sure most people on here have opened an OpenFileDialog or SaveFileDialog and set the SelectedPath property to point to some directory...
Has anyone done this on a Windows 7 machine and been able to point the thing to a Library? If so, what do you set it to?
As part of a new program, I need 2 forms and an openfiledialog. On Form1, a button event opens Form2. Form2 has an openfiledialog triggered by a button shown below.
'Form1's button to open Form2
Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

the next issue, that is only shown when the server is a Windows server 2008 machine , this is the information that I've found

I am trying to build a simple AutoUpdate application using VB.NET. It was quite simple. That is, I put the newest ZIP file in my hosting site, and then download it using WebClient.DownloadFileAsync. After it get downloaded, I extract it using [URL]
But each time I run the unzip.exe using Process.start, Windows 7 always show Open File Security.
Is it possible for VB.NET to bypass such security restriction?
Btw, this is my code of using WebClient.DownloadFileAsync, in case any one google about it and landed on this page :
Public Class AutoUpdate
Dim installationFolder As String = "C:Program Filesxyzabc"
Dim updateFileNameTarget As String
Private Sub btnStartUpdte_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnStartUpdte.Click

I have some shared code I need to use both in a WinForm and a service. How can I test if my code is running in a service, so I can avoid problems with modal dialogs.
View 2 RepliesIs there anyway to disable the vb.net (2008) express popup for converting older projects as well as the security warning to browse the project? I'm fairly new to vb.net so of course I download lots of examples to learn off of and it is BEYOND annoying to have to convert every demo and then click ok to browse the code.
View 1 RepliesI'm programming a mass emailer for my newsletter using Outlook.Everything is working great except for two security dialog boxes...The first is how long I should give my application and the second is "if I should let my program send out the email".I do really understand this is perfect security but I need to have Outlook trust my application. These newsletters are going to 1000 people and this would be really tedious if I had to click each dialog box.
View 3 RepliesI am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system. While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen. The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.
I am developing a VB application using the Visual Studio 2008 IDE. I was making changes to my code using the Quick Replace function when the dialog window stopped displaying. Selection of Quick Find or Quick Replace from the Edit menu, as well as use of shortcut keys (CTL+F and CTL+H) all have the same affect: the IDE loses focus but no dialog windows display. Is this a known issue with an available fix?
View 1 RepliesI am working on moving applications from Windows 2000 to new server Windows 2003 R2(64 Bit). I noticed that there are some VB programs and config files for those programs have been placed in Windows 2000 Registry. Some other applications are using them from different servers. Why do we use registry here? How can i move these to registry in windows 2003? Can I just move these or do I have to write VB programs to place them in 2003 registry?
