Arrays :: Weird Results When Splitting Strings?
May 5, 2012I was getting weird results when doing multiple splits on a string, so I decided to make a simple test to figure out what was going ontestString "1234567891011121314151617181920"If I wanted to get whats between 10 to 20 in Javascript I would do this:var results = testString.split("10")[1].split("20")[0]Which would return 111213141516171819However when I do this in VB I get 111Split(testString,"10")(1).Split("20")(0)It seems the 2nd split is only recognizing the first character no matter what I put.

Oct 29, 2011I'm reviewing a midterm visual basic exam question that I got didn't code correctly and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is:"Figure 7.4 contains an array of survey responses that is hard-coded (1-5) into the program. Suppose we wish to process survey results that are stored in a file. First, create an application that enables the user to write survey responses to a file. Use StreamWriter to create a file called SurveyResponses.txt and write each response on a separate line. Modify the code in fig. 7.4 to read the survey responses from SurveyResponses.txt by using StreamReader. THe program should continue to read responses until it reaches the end of file. The results should be output to a text box."
Note:the output of figure 7.4 is as follows and the frequency is incremented when a user submits a response.

My issue is that I use StreamReader and StreamWriter to allow the user to select a location to save the file and to open the file. I believe VB must automatically create a file and automatically open it, which I cannot figure out how to do it.

Jan 13, 2012I have an application that i am writing that polls machines every 40ms and depending on the result of the poll sometype of action is taken. i have each machine that is polled run in a separte thread. this all works fine.
what i want to add to it is to use a timer and either on a tick or elapsed time fire inside of each thread at lets say a 1 minute interval to update a file with stats about each thread and the machine it is connect to. for example below if a start polling 3 machines on com1 2 and 3 and poll them. machine 1 may have 102 copies machine 2 200 copies and machine 3 400 copies. i want a timer theat ticks every 1 minute that will fire within each thread and record those results

However, when I press the button that will run the command, it tells me that it can't convert the string to an integer or something. And when I did manage to get it to convert to an integer, it really showed an integer in the textbox instead of the connections and IP addresses. What do I do? Display Results In A Chart Control?
Jun 6, 2011I'm trying to present results on an aspx web page where a store procedure parameter is defined by a dropdown list control on the page. I have followed this guide from Microsoft and have my resultset presented in a DataGrid view. But I cannot seem to adapt it to present the resultset in a chart.
As you can see from my VB code below, I thought it would simply be a case of adapting the GridView databind to a Chart. I have tried various other options, and have successfully generated my data in a chart using a hard-coded parameter in an SQL statement on the ASP page. But when it comes to using the control, I get an empty chart.
Below is what I have so far.

Apr 13, 2011I'm using visual studio 2010 and sql server 2005 to store my data. I'm creating a system that will allow me to find/search for records that are stored within the database. Thing is, i have 2 separate forms for this - one is the find/search page which allows you to enter in as many fields as you want (the more you enter, the more efficient the search is) and the second one is the find/search results page which will show the results from the search.
I'm not using a datagrid as i've already created these forms myself. I'm on a tight schedule because i've spent so much time already trying to get this to work. Do i need to create another dataset and tableadapter and bind the text boxes? how will i code the find/search button so the search will be carried out and the results will appear in the other form?

Jun 6, 2011I have a working code that exports the datagrid into XLS. However, the datagrid results does not show on my aspx (html) page. It only shows on the page when I comment out the part that exports it to xls. I am not sure whether it should show by default when exporting.Basically, what I want to have is when I click my export button, it should display the datagrid on the page as well as popup an excel "open, save, cancel" window for the export.

Oct 21, 2009I am writing my own script for a simple calculator that determines if a number is prime, and its prime factors.[code]The loopcount = compare - 2 means I want the loop to be 2 less than the square root of the answer so that when do a descending calculation (loopcount = loopcount - 1) it doesn't see if 1 or 0 is a factor of the answer. for the calculations after that, I want, every time n1 = n2 (a whole number factor of the answer), I want to report those results to a text file (n2 and n3) in this format "(n2, n3)" then go to the next line. and continue to execute the loop until the loopcount is zero. Currently, when I run the code, the application closes when I click the prime button (button that runs this code) and I don't know why. This is my first semester in school, and have never coded before, so I am a definite laymen with code, but I really really want to learn it (hence why for fun im just creating algorithms for different things).

Jul 12, 2011I have a very specifically designed table in a .aspx page. I have an <asp:SqlDataSource> tag that works fine with a DetailsView. I have tried DetailsView, ListView, Gridview etc. and cannot obtain the desired design. Is it possible to execute a Stored Procedure and have the individual results displayed in the individual cells of a web page table? This seems like it should be simple but it apparently is not.
