VB 2010 - Adjust The Font At Runtime So That A Text Fits Within A Rectangle?
Nov 16, 2011The rectangle is drawn with drawrectangle and the text with drawstring, but the text doesn't fit. Is a runtime adjust possible?

View 2 RepliesI am using Visual studio 2008 and I need to be able to adjust a font size using an expression.So far I have,
IIf((Len(First(Fields!CardID.Value, "data"))> 30), "12 pt", "72 pt")
I know I have to reference the LEN variable to get the total character size, but I'm not sure how.
I'd like to adjust Report field height at run time.In the 2nd image, at the 3rd and 4th row of "Wine" column, if the data length is enough for a line, I'd like to adjust its height into a line (And also bottom line object be followed by it). Otherwise, let it be two lines. Please share me which property I'd set.
PS: In page header, I use box object. But in Details section, I just use line object because in report footer, I need to show Total amount. If I use a box in these three sections, there is the box is expanded the whole page without having detail rows at the last page.

View 8 RepliesI'm working on a document editor and I want the user to be able to change the font of a selected text. I have imported the rich text box control from the options menu and place it into my form. I have a list box containing the names of the fonts and when the user selects a item, it changes the richbox's current selected text.
This is the code so far;
Private Sub tmrtextfont_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tmrtextsize.Tick
If lstbxfont.SelectedIndex = 0 Then
[Code]....
I have a rich text box ('RichTextBox1') and a button ('BoldButton'), and have it set up so that whenever the user highlights some text in the box and clicks the bold button, that text becomes bold. That much I've figured out...
Public Class Form1
Private Sub BoldButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BoldButton.Click
Dim Bold As New Font(RichTextBox1.Font, FontStyle.Bold)
RichTextBox1.SelectionFont = Bold
End Sub
End Class
But I'd also like to add the ability that if the user highlights text that is already bolded, then clicks the bold button, that text will go back to 'regular' font. In other words, I'd like the 'bold' button to be able to toggle between bold and regular font.
I am trying to make a program that basicly, on the click of a button, removes a font from the windows font list (Un-installs it) Is there a way to do this using VB.NET (2010)The reason I want to do this is to make a program to remove the 'Comic Sans MC' font from all computers I use my pendrive on?
View 9 RepliesIn VB10/win forms project, when I change the forms font size the form and all the controls on the form get larger or smaller, OK great! The problem is the combo boxes then appear with their text highlighted. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong, simple example..

I have a font called MyFont.ttf in resource and its build action is embeded resource.I'm doing this code in formLoad event, but it is not working...
Dim fonts As New PrivateFontCollection()
Dim asm As Assembly = Me.[GetType]().Assembly
Dim stm As Stream = asm.GetManifestResourceStream("Demo.MyFont.ttf")

in this program that Im making I need to print something that the user have saved in a textbox. And the problem is that the text wont auto adjust to fit the paper, it just keep running on the same line outside. I tried to use printsetupdialog to setup the margins but the settings wont apply when printing, here is the code:

I have a form with some labels. If the labels equal certain text, then I want the font size of the label to change.For example, if the text reads "apple",I want the font size of the label to be 16.If the text reads "banana", I want the font size of the label to be 8.This has to occur during runtime without any clicking of the label.I have an idea of the code I want to write in order for this to work, but I need to know where to put the code for the labels.I cannot put this under Label_Click or Form_Load.Where can I put this code so that it works for the labels during runtime?
View 2 RepliesI'm developing a Windows Forms Application in Visual Basic .NET with Visual Studio 2008.
I'm trying to compose fonts (Family name, font size, and the styles) at runtime, based on user preferences, and apply them to labels.
For the sake of both a simplier user interface, and compatibility between more than one machine requiring to use the same font, I'll NOT use the InstalledFontCollection, but a set of buttons that will set few selected fonts, that I know to be present in all machines (fonts like Verdana).
So, I have to make a Public Sub on a Module that will create fonts, but I don't know how to code that. There are also four CheckBoxes that set the styles, Bold, Italic, Underline and Strikeout.
How should I code this? The SomeLabel.Font.Bold property is readonly, and there seems to be a problem when converting a string like "Times New Roman" to a FontFamily type. (It just says it could not do it)
Like on
Dim NewFontFamily As FontFamily = "Times New Roman"
Is it possible to edit a labels' font and size etc at runtime? If so how would I do this? apparently it is read-only? Im basically learning about decision structures at the moment and would like to change a label font based on a case statement?
View 1 RepliesI am using vb.net framework 3.5. I am developing an windows application in that i am displaying the Richtextbox data on Web browser. But in my rtf data contains the Math type functions which are not properly displayed in the web browser. For changing the font i used the method like put the data in the richtextbox change the size and font and again update it . But it's not working for math type.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to convert a value from a radio list box that is populated by an access database. The database loads fine, I have no trouble with that. My issue is that I am trying to take the value of the radio button chosen and turn it into a font color. Therein lies my problem. I see that it cannot be a string, but when I turn it into an object, I get an error. I will note that I am using VS 2008 (Windows Vista x64), and the database is compatible with a 2002 - 2003 Access database. I am using ASP.NET for my programming, however, I am trying to program it in VB. This is my code:

View 10 RepliesI'm trying to make a very simple full screen program I'm going to use to launch Program.
(That copy bar isn't suppose to be there my computer just glitched and I didn't feel like restarting)
I can easily set the form to launch in full screen but if I do that nothing on the form adjust with it.
I was wondering if there's any easy way to get get everything to adjust to fit fullscreen?
I want to change the font on a button to bold after certain conditions exist during runtime.
I tried
Col1Button.Font.Bold =
True
The autocomplete allows me to type it, but it doesn't work. There is an underline under the IDE code. Font is apparently a "Read-Only"property. Is there a way to make it a changable property?
I have a form. it has a textbox called textbox1. form has datagridview called datagridview1 on it which has datasource set to: tblEmployee. Which is connected from EmployeeData.mdf. This is an SQLServer connection.
I want to be able to type the text in search box(textbox1) and the datagrid shold adjust at the same time.
So if i am typing "Joh"... the datagrid should automatically change to narrow rows with Forename that has "John" in it.
I want to be able to type text in a search box (textbox1) and have the datagrid adjust at the same time. My datagridview is called DGEstudent and the data source is dataset2 and is pulling from the student table. As soon as I start typing in the textbox my datagrid just goes blank. Private Sub TextBox1_KeyUp(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyUp
Dim dv As DataView = New DataView()
dv.Table = DataSet2.Student
dv.RowFilter = "First_Name like '" & TextBox1.Text & "%'"
DGEstudent.DataSource = dv

Private Sub Resize_Form()
Dim cControl As Control
Dim i_i As Integer[code]..........
Which value do i change in the code that the screen squeezes horizontally ...? There are only two controls on the right side when we scroll....i think if the resolution is done correctly then it will fit in the screen.....but i dont know what chages should be made in the code.

View 3 RepliesI had a weird series of errors involving e.Graphics.DrawString() when painting a panel.I am using a barcode font [Code 128] with a library that converts text to the proper format for Barcode readers.That's fine, however, when I draw it to the panel, that's where things stop being fine:But, here's where things get funky. When I put it into a TextBox instead of drawing it via Graphics.DrawString(), everything is peachy:In fact, the TextBox one looks much better than the Graphics.DrawString() one! Given a rectangle of width w and height h. and a coordinate x,y in that rectangle I would like to identify which triangle I am within.
i.e. the function should take parameters(x,y) and return a,b,c,d or a zero based number representing that triangle index i.e. (0=A,1=B,2=C,3=D) if they are in that order.
I think this would be something like >= the formula of the red line and >= the formula of the green line?
I'd like to implement this in VB.NET
I am working on a program to match overlapping images together to make one complete image. This isn't for panoramic purposes, it is from a video game generated overhead map, so there is no perspective issues to deal with and the overlapping images (gained from screenshots while a player moves) should be pixel perfect (still running tests to verify this, but lets assume they are pixel perfect at this time).
1) I need to compare each new (small) overhead map section to the larger map, find what edge it fits on, and copy it over.On other forums I have seen people suggest taking the bitmap apart in the form of an array of colors, or 3 arrays per image for r, g, and b. I am wondering why this is done instead of directly going to the bitmap object and using GetPixel. Is an Array lookup significantly faster? Speed would be an issue with my program, I would like to do this match as fast as possible, and the overall map could become large, even if I keep making new map sections to manually paste together later.So, faster to loop through a graphic with getpixel, or faster to go through 3 two-dimensional arrays with r, g, and b, or faster to go through 1 three-dimensional array with rgb all inside it?
2) The bitmap object that contains the overall map will keep getting larger. What is the best way to resize that bitmap dynamically?I am thinking of just making a new, larger bitmap when I get near an edge, then using getpixel and setpixel to copy over the old bitmap to the new one. Is there a faster way to make a new, larger bitmap object containing the old one with the graphics class? I admit to finding the graphics class somewhat confusing in how methods on it affect the image object that is defined as it's surface...or something. There might be a faster way with graphics and drawimage, but is that really faster than a getpixel/setpixel loop? Finally, if I do store the graphics data in arrays instead of actual bitmap objects, would redimming the array be the best way? If I need more room at the 'beginning' of the array I would have to make a new array and then copy the data over shifted. And this might involve 3 arrays if it is best to use one each for r, g, b.
I have this
Private Sub Form1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
lblText.Text = rectangle1.X
If e.KeyCode = Keys.Right Then
rectangle1.X = rectangle1.X + 5
[Code] .....
And the text changes but the ractangle doesn't move... What can I do?
I've drawing text to a rectangle, say for example "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ123456789",That should be centered (which it is), but be on one line, not clipped like this:
"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR
STUVWXYZ123456789"
my String Format is:
With sfFormat
.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center
.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Center
.Trimming = StringTrimming.Character
.FormatFlags = StringFormatFlags.NoClip
End With
It doesn't even have to trim it, like I have in my code, but it won't even stay on one line.
