VS 2005 Process Class - Use Notepad.exe To Open Another Text File
Apr 21, 2009
Suppose I have this Dim proc As Process proc = Process.Start("Notepad.exe", "C: est.txt") Now, if I want to use Notepad.exe to open another text file (ie. C:2ndTextFile.txt) without closing it, how am I going to do it?
I have searched, but failed to find a suitable answer to this. My small app saves a text file using a savefiledialog and stream writer. Then if successful, displays a messagebox confirming sucess and asks if the user wants to open the text file now. and this is the problem... How do I determine if the user has changed the filename and or path in the savefiledialog when saving? I'd prefer not to hard code a path and file name if possible.... but that seems like the only option? and therefore I can't show the file straight after saving reliably??
Currently, I've used System.IO.StreamWriter to write items to a text file. However, what I have are items separated by a Writeline(). Meaning, the items are displayed in several rows, in a column. But what I want is a single row, with many columns, separated by commas for each item. Example of what I want: 16/8/2010,100,you
vb.net Dim psBattery As PowerStatus = SystemInformation.PowerStatus Dim perFull As Single = psBattery.BatteryLifePercent Dim Now As DateTime = DateTime. Now
Years ago when coding with VB6 and earlier, I used a file open command to create, read, and write a file that made it easy to store useful information.I believe it was binary and you wrote/read the data to a specific line in the file. When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.
I am trying to automate a process I do with a bank with vb.net. Basically I need to open a website and navigate through it (Automatically through the program obviously), enter a batch ID and enter a file path and name. For some reason when I get to the part where I need to enter the file name and path, it simply will not populate the text. I have attached a word document with screenshots and code. The only difference I can see, is that in the bank website's code the the input type for the file text is "FILE" rather than "TEXT" as it is for the batch id...
I'm building a simple Notepad where users can open CSS & HTML files & was wondering how I can program it to open the file in the main text box like the regular Windows Notepad does.
I just published this simple console application that is supposed to show a textbox with the value of a setting called "userID" with value 1001. This works like a charm. Now what I need is to change this value outside the editor, from notepad etc. When I open the application a lot in there is non-sence etc. but with a quick (ctrl + F) I found the value 1001, and changed this to some other integer.
I ran the application again, and it failed, didn't even give any userful error-message. At a point I tried just opening a newly published non-corrupted version of the application, didn't change anything, then saved from notepad, and it were also corrupted. It seems like notepad can't open some characters or something. Do I need to publish the application in some specific text-unicode language or something? I use vb.net for this
When I load my solution and compile it after first starting the IDE, everything works as expected. After changing source and recompiling, I get the following compile error:
Error 11 Unable to copy file "objDebugCAMDRS.Library.dll" to "binCAMDRS.Library.dll". The process cannot access the file 'binCAMDRS.Library.dll' because it is being used by another process. CAMDRS.Library.
After closing Visual Studio 2005 and reopening the solution I can compile again successfully. This is an old solution that has been fine for a long time. I just recently changed computers and reinstalled everything.I am running win XP Pro sp2, Visual Studio 2005 sp1.
I am trying to write login page code for the login button but can't find how to find a string in a .txt file. The only code I have managed to find on the subject is opening up the text file with the
FileOpen(1, "File location", OpenMode.Output) code, but even this would be best removed as it would open the text file containing all usernames and passwords within the file.I need the system to search for a specific string within a file ( Usernames___Passwords.txt (159bytes)Number of downloads: 134), and with that string find the password associated with it (in my attached example the letters/words after the apostrophe) but stopping at the end of the line.
I'm having some trouble using resource files. In my project I'm using a bunch of bitmap files and two txt files. Bitmaps are used as backgrounds for controls, but .txt files I want to open in Notepad or WordPad. Till now I was accesing them from a file path on my machine: ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(direcorypath & "/Map.bmp") Process.Start(direcorypath & "/Instrukcje.txt")
And it worked fine. Now I added these files to my resources (it's practical for me to have them in executable file) And replaced those lines with: ControlName.backgroundimage = New Bitmap(MyProject.My.Resources.Map) Process.Start(MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje)
For bitmap it works fine, but for txt file an error occurs saying that a file cannot be found. Interestin thing is: when I type "MyProject.My.Resources.Instrukcje" in "Watch" it shows the content of the file. So it is there, only not as a file?
I am trying to use the open file dialog box in VB 2005 to open up an existing txt, or rtf file from a directory into a rich text box. I am able to get the Open file dialog to appear and the directories, but when I try to open the file it doesnt import it into the text box. Here is the code I am using
The program opens with the correct registry value, but the program itself does not run quite right. This program feeds into Intergraph and brings up the selected drawing, but there is a feature of intergraph that doesn't work. If I manually start ( double click ) pdsicon.exe the program works just fine. It only when I call the process that it doesn't work quite right.
I would like to open the excel file after create the excel file. The creating file function is done, but the system unable to open the excel file. My coding as below:
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application Dim xlWorkBook As Excel.Workbook Dim misValue As Object = System.Reflection.Missing.Value
I have a filesystemwatcher that watches a certain folder.. Now i use system.thread.sleep to be sure that the file is completely copied to the folder that i watch..But this is not a good way!i know there is a way to check if the file is open or used by another process, but i dont know the code.[code]

I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

I'm trying to open any file using Process.Start, but every time I try to open a file that isn't an executable the program crashes... This is the code I'm currently using:
vb.net Private Sub ListView1_MouseDoubleClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles ListView1.MouseDoubleClick For Each lvi As ListViewItem In ListView1.SelectedItems Process.Start(path & "" & lvi.Text) Next End Sub
Path is a string that contains the selected folder path, and lvi is the text of the list view item (each item contains the icon and name of each file). It is working fine for .exe files, I was just wondering if it's JUST for .exe files...
When i debug the program and open it(inapp.exe) in notepad there a line
C:UsersendroitDocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsDataTypeDataTypeobjDebugDataType.pdb
Well, is there any solution or way not to include that line when debug. I know that .pdb is important in debugging, but when the app published still there's that line. Can we disable it or there's no other way.
I have a notepad I am making. I need to resolve to more then 1 Save and Open Filter. I have the code: Try Dim dlg As SaveFileDialog = New SaveFileDialog dlg.Title = "Save" dlg.Filter = "Text Document (*.txt)|*.txt" If dlg.ShowDialog = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then RichTextBox1.SaveFile(dlg.FileName, RichTextBoxStreamType.RichText) [Code] .....
I am using a thread to call a process which is spliting a text file into various text file and folder using the system.io , now when calling the Textsplit() with thread on click of a button i am getting the error below , how to use thread and why this error occurs.
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'txtbox_destn' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
I'm trying to delete a file, which prompts the error: "can not delete File in use by another process". I've been researching this for the last couple of days, and have tried every possible suggestion, I've come across, but still keep getting the error. I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion on what I need to change or rearrange in my code to get around this.
The program loads a group of files into a listbox, user selects which files to process, Each file is sent through the sub (process files) to be renamed, and then processed through external programs then removed from the listbox. Each file in the list HAS to be renamed the same in order for the external program to process it. This is where I'm getting the error message, as I need to delete the previous file before renaming the new one. Parts of my code may seem redundant, but its where I was trying every possible scenario of closing the process and or stream that's leaving the file open. [Code]
Lets just say I had something like this: System.IO.File.Create("C:.txt") Dim SaveF As New System.IO.StreamWriter("C:.txt") Under each other. It gives me a error saying: The process cannot access the file "C:.txt" because it is being used by another process.
