i am doing windows application in vb.net , i want to know how to create a child window in single form.
View 3 RepliesI have a parent child collection objects and was wondering how to get a single item from the child collection using Linq
[Code]...
First, a little background (greatly simplified): I have two classes, one called Entity and one called Item which a subclass of Entity. They each store their individual properties in seperate SQL 2008 tables using TableAdapters generated by a strongly typed DataSet. The Entity class has a Save() method that looks like this:
Public Sub Save()
entityTableAdapter.Update(entityRow)
End Sub
[Code]....
Indeed, the SQL table does not contain a row in the Entity table with the necessary ID at this point because the transaction is not complete.
My goal is to prevent the Entity record from being inserted if inserting the Item record fails. I could write code to delete the Entity record again, but this does not seem very elegant to me...
I have a single table that holds my Categories
CatID, CatName, ParentID
I have often used this layout to show Root Categories where the ParentID IS NULL. I would like to be able to create a vertical Menu (using a repeater and an <UL><LI> that displays the Root Categories and ideally, a collapse panel that would expand with the subcategories. Given the above Table format, it is also easily possible to make the hierarchy unlimited.
how to make a single dataset that understands the Child relationship.
The idea with this form is to add the futures which is calculated when the button is pushed but I need the list to update every time and show the values each time to which the previous value is added to the new calculation, e.g. of what it should look like in listbox:
Year 1: $1,290.93
Year 2: $2,724.32
Year 3: $4,350.76
etc....
I have been working on this a while and I am at a standstill, I was given a function to clear the form everytime it calculates but I don't know how to implement it, I am new to VB. Here is what I have so far:
Public Class frmFutureValue
Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click
[code]....
Basically i'm trying making a task manager program for myself. I want to know how I can display a message box and or play a sound when system time = time displayed in listview. I have used a dropdown box for the user to select which option they would like to select - sound or message box to popup. The data for the task will be stored in a listview box. I want it so that when the date and the time is = to the date and time set for the reminder the action will follow. Here is my code so far:
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Dim notext As String = ""
If TextBox1.Text = notext Then[code]....
[URL]
Basically here's what I want to do.
Input data
ID Item Name
1 Apple01,02,Banana01,02,03
2 Spoon1,2,Fork1,2,3,4

I'm fine with both C# and VB.NET..I have two tables. Authors and Books. It's a one to many relationship, Authors to Books. I'm writing a query to show how many books that each author has.[code]But in the Authors table, there are some authors without any books yet. For example, there two authors, Author D and Author E that have no books yet. I want to write query that includes all authors and number of ther books, even though they don't have any book yet, no record in the Books table yet.
View 1 RepliesI am developing a form where the Mdiparent contains Mdichildren in tabbed style. so if user clicks on search form it appears as a tab in the main container form. Now, this child form that opens up as a tab in the main form has hotkeys defined. However, on pressing "Alt" while the control is in the child tabbed form, the clues i.e TextLabel with underlined hotkey alphabet does not appear in the child form. The hot keys work fine however the clues are not displayed on pressing Alt.

View 2 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic 2008I've been trying to create a auto typer where I can put a whole page of words into a rich text box and the auto typer then pumps the words out one at a time. The code that I use is:
Timer1.Interval = TextBox1.Text
SendKeys.Send(RichTextBox1.Text)
SendKeys.Send("{Enter}")
That code would just type all of the words at once. Also, I'm putting the words in a rich text box. How could I save the rich text box so that each time I load up the application it still has all of the words in it?

[code]...
And that works, but if I close the window instead of using the check box and then try to use the checkbox to open the new window again i get an error:Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Also I have more than one checkbox (each one serves a child form) and I would like to be able to open and close any of the child forms at any time.

View 7 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2008 Pro (.Net 3.5 SP1). I'm trying to make some MDI child forms in a Windows project (VB) and cannot find any "MDI Child" or "MDI Parent" property for any form.
How can I designate a form as an MDI Child at design time?
I've read the help files and they reference either an "MDI Parent" or "MDI Child" property but I cannot find those properties in the property list of any form.
In this example I want the loop button works in all mdi child forms at the same time; now in the first mdi child form it will work, but when getting a new mdi child form with that, it will stop in the first one!
