VS 2008 : Adding Rows To Data-Bound DGV?

Jan 15, 2010

Is there a way to add rows to a DGV as I want to add information from another form to the DGV. The .Rows.Add() does not work as I am told I can not add rows to a data bound grid.Short of unbinding the DGV and re writing everything, I can not see how to do it.

VS 2010 - "Rows Cannot Be Programmatically Added To The DataGridView's Rows Collection When The Control Is Data-bound"

Sep 1, 2011

Can anyone tell me why "Rows cannot be programmatically added to the DataGridView's rows collection when the control is data-bound." I keep getting an error "Invalid Operation Exception was Unhandled" error. All I am attempting to do is allow the user to select products from a list(or a second datagridview) and have it added to the datagridview so they do not have to type in every cell since the other cells are not visible because they do not purtain to their needs. Plus they will be able to save all items at the same time.

I'm am very new to Vb.net, I have coded in VBA.I have created a form that will open Microsoft Excel, add header text to the columns, and insert the text from a few of the controls located on my form ("not finished adding controls") when I click the Submit button.

My problem is that when I enter different data into those controls and click the submit button again, I get a new Excel Workbook with the new data.I need the new data the be submitted to the .Activecell.Offset(1,0) of the already open workbook.Ultimate Goal of Submit button is to open new Excel workbook, Enter multiple rows of data via Visual Basic Form.

VS 2008 : Data Bound List Box, Displaying Data Into Textbox?

Jan 3, 2011

I want it so every time I click an ITEM in the Listbox it displays ALL the data into the textbox. I know there's an easy way using table adapters and binding the listbox, but I'd prefer to do it this way for my project.

So this is what I got.

Lst.DataSource = ds
Lst.DisplayMember = "tblStudent.FirstName"
Lst.ValueMember = "tblStudent.StudentID"

[code]....

It only adds the first rows details to the text box when I click the second record the first rows details are still there.

VS 2008 Data Bound RTF Not Updating

Jun 8, 2010

I have a class which I'm binding to a series of textboxes, date pickers and so on. When I change text in the text boxes, the object updates just fine, and when I then save the data, it has the changes. My problem seems to be with the RTB ... if I bind to the .Text property, it works just fine and updates like any normal text box. However... when I bind to the RTF property... changes to the object don't happen unless I first click out of the RTB... quite annoying. If I edit the text or change the formatting, and hit the save button, the changes don't get reflected in my object. I've even tried using debug statements to track when the property is changed, and I'm not getting the results I desire.

I don't mind using two buttons (up and down) to do it either. But I am not able to figure out a way to do it.

VS 2008 Changing Bound Data When Entering Text In ComboBox?

Aug 9, 2009

I have a data-bound combobox that pulls values from a BindingList(of T). Combobox loads fine, correct values are displayed (I'm not using SelectedItem or SelectedValue). I'm using properties and connecting the data to the control via a bindingsource.

What I want is if the user types text into the combobox, I want the data from the bound table to change to that new text, i.e. edit the bound data directly.

Easy as pie to do with a textbox, but can't seem to get a combobox to work this way.

I was trying to use the validated event of the combobox to write the data to the datasource, but it doesn't fire when I press enter. Is that the way to do it? Can I not link the data to the combobox directly?

VS 2010 Adding New Row To Bound DGV?

Sep 28, 2010

I've been researching this all day, it say you must add a record to the datatable if you want to add a new row. This is my code.

Private Sub TagsdetailBindingSource_AddingNew(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.AddingNewEventArgs) Handles TagsdetailBindingSource.AddingNew
'Me.TagsdetailBindingSource.CancelEdit()

[code]....

But this code add two rows, the first row has the default data that I entered. The second row doesn't.

I think this is because it add a new row because the "AddingNew" was called. I can't find a way to cancel this "AddingNew". Maybe this code should go somewhere else.

I want the user to be able to use the "Add" button. I just want to insert some default data and then add the row to the grid so they can add another row without having to enter any data.

VS 2008 Bound - Source Data Of Drop Down Lists Be Separate Queries / Datatables?

Jun 2, 2009

I've got a couple of drop down lists for languages. I bind them to a language list that comes from a query. Then the fields are also bound to the row in the DB they relate to. I have several panels with the language drop down - each "tied" to a different table in my DB. When I call up different records on the same panel the drop downs immediately "set to the position" of that rows language in the list. But when I call up another panel - tied to another database table - I see that language in the drop down.

Adding Combobox To Bound Datagridview

Jun 2, 2011

Has anyone here tried putting a combobox to a bound datagridview? The selected value of the combobox will depend on the value of the corresponding column in the database.

I have a datagridview. When the user clicks the edit button, the application fetches the records from the database and binds it to the datagriview. But I want to show the Gender Column as combobox with selectable 'Male' and 'Female' values.

How could I add a combobox to bound datagridview?

Adding Lines To A Bound Datagridview

Sep 23, 2010

I have a datagridview bound to a datatable and i want to add a line to it. I cannot add al ine to the dgv, because it is bound so i add the line to the datatable using Me.BurdensCRMDataSet.dtlines.Rows.Add() however this seems to add two rows - let me explain a little further: A dgv always seems to have what i would call a 'blank next' row, a blank row at the end of the dgv, which as soon as the user populates with data another blank row appears after that - maintaining this 'blank next' row provides a simple and easy way for users to keep manually adding data to a dgv

This also seems to work fine when the dgv is bound to a datatable, an empty dgv would have 1 row (the 'blank next' row) and the datatable would have 0 rows, each time the user populates the 'blank next' in the dgv it is added to the datatable and a 'blank next row is added to the dgv, so the dgv now has 2 rows and the datatable has 1 - and so on and so forth However, I cannot programatically populate this 'blank next' row on the datatable, because it doesn't exist yet in the datatable, only in the dgv and if I programatically populate it in the dgv it isn't added to the datatable and a 'blank next' row isn't added to the dgv

DataGridView Unchanged After Adding Row To Bound DataSet

Jun 11, 2010

I add a row to the DataSet using the following code:
Dim NewRow as DataRow
NewRow = gds.Tables("TitleDataSet").NewRow
NewRow("Title") = txtTitle.Text
NewRow("Local_number") = nubLocalnumber.Value
NewRow("Number_suffix") = txtNumberSuffix.Text
etc.

This code executes without errors but the bound DataGridView remains unchanged (without including the new row). Obviously I am doing something wrong or I am omitting a vital command. What do I need to do in order to make the new row appear in the DataGridView? I did not choose to bind the DataGridView directly to the database table because the database is selected by the user at execution time. Instead I bound the DataGridView to the DataSet. I included the command:L
dgvTitle.AllowUserToAddrows = True
but that did not have any effect.

Solved. Was missing the final command:L
gds.Tables("TitleDataSet").Rows.Add(NewRow)
