VS 2008 How To Shorten Long Value
May 4, 2012
Dim num as integer = 1.60285253
Msgbox(shorted num??)
I want msgbox to show only shorted version of that number, so It should give 1.06
And is is possible to make it round third number to higer? If I want limit it to 2 numbers only, it should show 1.06 as 1.1, but if number was 1.04 it shows shortened number as 1.0.

I'm trying to make this cleaner... I know there's lots of shortcuts for If statements, but I don't know what's best.
If item.RecurrenceId > 0 Then
xmlTextWriter.WriteElementString("recordtype", "2")
ElseIf IsNothing(item.OngoingEndDate) = False Then
xmlTextWriter.WriteElementString("recordtype", "1")
Else
xmlTextWriter.WriteElementString("recordtype", "0")
End If

In Visual Studio 2008 I am using :Private Declare Function BlockInput Lib "user32" (ByVal fBlock As Long) As Long To stop input from occuring during a search-replace operation.
BlockInput(True) ' do not allow input during search and destroy
Dim cursorIcon As Cursor
cursorIcon = Cursor
Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
Then setting it to false at the end of the operation. It did not work, so I thought maybe it was because I was calling it from a child window, so I created a function in the mainwindow, and ran it like this:
FrmMain.BlockFrmMainInput()With these functions is the Main window:
[Code]...
It did not solve the problem. I thought maybe it was because I was running under the debugger, so I tried compiling and running it debugger-free, but that did not do any better. I am still getting input when I double-click the mouse on either form.

I have a function which generates a very large Integer (I do this by using Biginteger from vjslib.dll and I am able to operate all kind of arithmetic operators on such a biginteger.) But, My goal is to shorten this big integer into a small integer. Is there any algorithm? or a mathematical Formula which I can use to represent it in a small integer and use some reverse formula to get the original Big integer?
The big integer my function creates goes like this:
98761210112313489375987956157462364864823458794572 34573485683465868234568613123749081377932457923457 93475897836587236458678234568234658362458762347895 68932456892346578636123846715376123475745723645666 38247687346128346812364812364816341384612384678345 76341236412783461278346781236481263489126348971238 41134681273467812364789
I do not want to represent my bigInteger in a higher base as it will not be possible to do conversion into higher bases with such a large integer.

I am making a project for school with visual basic and its a mcdonalds ordering system.There are 50+ buttons which you can press to remove an item and my code works fine. only problem is it is waaaaayyyy to long and can be shortened with a wildcard. Does anyone know what a good way to put a wildcard in the following code would be:
Private Sub btnsmallfries_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnsmallfries.Click
If Label2.Text = "Buy Mode" Then

I have a combo box that has a drop down list with long values in the drop down
Ex:
LB - Pounds
GR - Grams
When the user selects on of the values I want to just show the Abreviaqtions and not the descriptions. So when the drop down is shown it shows
LB - Pounds
GR - Grams
When the user selects "GR - Grams" from the drop down list "GR" is the only this shown in the combobox. I've tried TextChange,SelectedIndexChange and SelectedValueChange but I can't get them to work.

I'm trying to time how long an operation takes in Visual Basic (VS 2008) but its not working. the code I have is as follows:
[code]...
this is in an OnClick event, so what happens is that the user can click a menu item, and it goes and sends any changes it has to a database, and pulls down any new changes to a local data cache. This operation takes time, depending on how many changes are on the server and how many are cached locally. I've thought about making this a background task, so it doesn't draw away from the main app while it's running, but before doing that, I'd like to get an idea how long the operation takes. Since I can't exactly do a progress bar, I figured using the stopwatch would tell me how many ticks/milliseconds would occur between click, and when the "total synced" message comes up, but every time i run it and do an update the message always shows 0 ticks/ms. I don't think it's accounting for the delay, just from start to finish. Is there any way to make it so it detects a message popping up and times off that?

With this code...
vb
...Dim random As Long = RandomNumber(1000000000000000, 9999999999999999)... Private Function RandomNumber(ByVal Min As Long, ByVal Max As Long) As Long Dim Random As New Random() Return Random.Next(Min, Max)End Function
...I am getting a OverflowException. Is it so that Random class can't handle Long values?

I have a scrollable drawing (in the form paint event) with a height / width ratio up to 1: 10 . I can see the entire drawing by scrolling with the left and right arrow keys. Problem is when I need to save or print the drawing.
1. - If I try to print or save with the: PrintForm1 or with some code for a screen capture I get only part of the drawing, which is seen on screen.Is there any possibility that I save the whole drawing (the entire form, even the part that can not be seen) as a bmp or png ... (something like extended window in "Snagit" program)?
2. - If I want to print the whole drawing, I know that I have to make in a several pages. Does anyone have a similar example of this?

Here's the (Timer1's interval is set to "1" in the designer, and it is set to "Enabled" in the designer as well.)
vb.net
Public timeElapsed As Int32Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
timeElapsed = 0
Timer1.Start()
[Code]...
The issue is, timeElapsed always comes back as equaling 0, so fileCopySpeed always equals infinity. Also note that test.dat is a 100MB file. There's no way it's getting copied in under 1 millisecond!

I draw text (comment on item in an invoice ) inside a rectangle.
[Code]...
I have no problem, the text appear on several lines and it is well wrapped. But if the text is too long to be drawn inside the rectangle, I need to draw the text not drawn in another rectangle (on another page). How can I know the text not drawn in the first rectangle ? I think it is more difficult to use MeasureString because the text is wrapped.

Whenever I publish my app, or when I run the exe from teh debug folder it takes a couple of seconds before the splash screen shows.However, when I run it from within VB (by pressing the "play" button) the splash screen shows immediately.
What could be the cause of this?

Dim tooltip As New ToolTip
Dim countName As Integer = 0
