VS 2008 Load Config / Use Custom Attributes

Jun 5, 2009

I have some custom user controls (asp.net) that is loaded via a configuration file this works great..

Problem - Some of these user controls I made you set some parameters.

Example - oUCtrl = page.LoadControl("UserControls/" & oCtrlNode.Attributes("name").Value & ".ascx")

This loads the control.. now that node has more attributes.. example url="www.google.com" in the config file

<control name="RSSFeed" url="www.google.com"> To set the url on the control it would be oUCtrl.url = "www.google.com"

is there a way to enumerate the properties of a user control or a way to use something to eval a string like eval("oUctrl." & currentAttributeName & "=" currentAttributeValue)

Not sure the best way.. i would assume the best way would enumerate the public properties of the user control and compare against it.

Grab Attributes Of Articles Element Under Custom Section In Web.config File

Sep 2, 2009

I am building the 'TheBeerHouse' project in vb.net (the book is written in C#). Once I understand the concepts, I can usually convert it to vb. However, there are a few areas that give my some problems (which I will address individually). The first issue I have is the C# 'base' to VB 'MyBase'. [code] My understanding of this conversion is that I need to grab the attributes of the <articles> element under the <theBeerHouse> custom section in the web.config file.This code does not compile and the get the following error: 'MyBase' must be followed by '.' and an identifier.

Validating Custom Attributes?

Im currently working on my first n-tier application. Im trying to validate the fields and properties in a class file and return a list of the violated business rules.I have the Custom Attributes built and in place, and the Validation method but its not working.

I created a test class with 1 field that has 4 custom attributes on it. I made sure that atleast 1 rule was violated by setting the value to either null or less than the required characters.Cant get this thing to validate for the life of me, keeps on returning 0 violations.

Asp.net - Programmatically Change Custom Attributes Of User Control In Code Behind?

Jan 21, 2012

I have a User Control which is a customer input form.I'm working on a sales system, when generating a sale, the customer data is populated by a Javascript Auto Complete, but when loading a saved sale, I need to paste a User ID into the control programatically.

<controls:customerDataForm ID='customerForm1' partExchangeMenu="true" showBankDetails="false" customerID="****" runat='server' />

Renders my control on the page within the markup of the parent document (in this case it's called newSale.aspx)In the code behind in newSale.aspx.vb I need to be able to programmtically change the value of the Controls customerID attribute. I can't seem to do it.This is what I have done, following various Googling attempts, but it is always leaving the customerID as zero

Load App.Config At Runtime?

Jan 17, 2012

I am creating a test project using IBM's Rational Functional Tester(RFT) tool(we are using the VB version of it and it only supports till .net 3.5).In this project I am making all database queries using the entity framework.The problem is entity framework retrieves "Metadata", "Connection String" etc from the App.Config file,and RFT won't let me add a App.Config to the project(I guess it is designed that way -- I googled adding an App.Config file to an rft project and came up with nothing), and the Entity Framework requires you to have the app.config file at the entry point.I was building the string to pass to entity framework in code, but my boss really does not like that. So looking at my options I think any of the below 2 solutions should suffice

Is their any way to load an App.Config during run-time. Is their any way to add an App.Config to an RFT project(should really be my first question).

.net - Moving App.config File To A Custom Location?

Jan 25, 2011

My application is a service application, and it needs to load a set of configuration that the user can change. I was using the System.Configuration classes to set up the app.config file, and then I was going to give the user the option of editing this file to change configuration.

Can I move this file to a custom directory, something like C:settingsapp.config? Or is it forced to reside in the app directory?

How To Build Custom Configuration Section In App.Config File

May 6, 2010

I am trying to build custom configuration section in my app.config file. I am using the following as my example: [URL]. According to this article, I am supposed to inherit from the ConfigurationSection class, add the desired section to my app.config file, and then specify a "configSections" declaration in the app.config file to identify the section and the class that should process it. My problem is that I cannot get the class loader to load my class for processing the section.

If I follow the example and set up my "configSections" as:
<configSections>
<section name="MyStuff.Configuration"
type="MyStuff.MyConfigurer"
allowLocation="true"
allowDefinition="Everywhere" />
</configSections>

I get the following error:
Could not load type 'MyStuff.MyConfigurer' from assembly 'System.Configuration, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'.

I think the error is telling me it can't load my class from the System.Configuration DLL and that makes sense; the class is in my application code. So how do I tell it to look in my application code to find the class? Do I have to put my class in its own DLL to get this to work? As an alternative approach, is there some way I can just find the section in the application configuration and process the XML myself? The app.config file is the ideal location for this information. Also, this would be easier for me than going through all of these contortions to do what should be a relatively easy operation.

Dim cllCurveAtt as new cllCurveAtt
sub SetAtt
cllCurveAtt.Add(CurveName, "Color.Red")
......
end sub

If I then want to refer to the curve color through cllCurveAtt(CurveName) I get an error because "Color.Red" is not a system color, it should be Color.Red without the quotes. But if I remove the quotes in the assignment THAT causes an error because since CurveName is a string, that color thing should also be convertable to a string. Catch 22.

Custom Control Error Could Not Load File

Aug 17, 2011

I have a windows application created using Visual Studios 2005.I recently added a custom control - after I built it, I was able to see it on the toolbox and I placed it from there to my form. All was good till at some point, when I tried to go to the design view of my form that the control is on, I get this error: Could not load file or assembly 'acdbmgd, Version=17.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. [code]I can still run my app and see the control that's on the form, but I'm wondering what this error means? If I rem out the code behind my custom control, I can then view the control on the page again when I design the form.

Custom Control Property Load Order

Xml - Populating Treeview With XSD Elements And Attributes In VB 2008?

Jul 26, 2009

I'm trying to create a treeview in a VB 2008 project that shows all the elements and attributes of an XML Schema.The MSDN documentation for XML schemas seems to imply that by loading the schema into an XMLSchemaSet and compiling it I should get access to all the elements and attributes with their values but this doesn't seem to work in practice.

Using a for loop such as:For Each elem As XmlSchemaElement In compiledSchema.Elements.Values

I can use elem.Name to get the element name (and attribute name with a similar nested loop) for a simple type but this doesn't work for a complex type.Whenever (and however) I try to get values for complex types I hit a brick wall.
