Password Protect Flash Drive In VB 2008?
Feb 8, 2010lately, ive had a lot of free time and have been trying to password protect my flash drive in VB 2008. and ive figured out almost everything i want with it, but ive come to a bit of a roadblock. as of right now, ive got 2 accounts, but thats all ive done so far, because every account has like 3 if statements, and it would start to accumulate a bit of i made anymore. so, ive been looking into using a database, and having it retrieve the password and username from there. ive searched for hours, and have found a lot of little bits and pieces of code, but nothing that would work for my situation. Will somebody tell me how i would:
1: make sure that the password and username match in the database when i click the confirm button
2: add a new username and password to a database when they want to make their own account
3: save changes to the database when i log out and move to another computer
also, is there a simple way to log the date, time, IP address, and Username, put it in a text file, and email it to me? i would also like to know how to open a flash drive using its name, and not its letter, cause its a different drive letter on different computers.

Jan 29, 2010Recently I've started experimenting with Visual Basic 2008, and just out of curiosity am trying to password protect my flash drives. (At the school I go to, it takes a couple seconds for things to disappear). So, I've got it to the point where I can have multiple "accounts" with their own passwords, ive got a lost password button, and a bunch of other stuff. But, anybody can just click out of it and go into the folder themselves, so I've been looking for a way to lock the focus on my password box. I've looked for hours and have found a lot of things that keep the focus on like a second form, so you cant go back to the first one, but I was still able to launch applications and things because the desktop was still active. I still haven't found one that keeps the focus locked on the first form and nothing else.

If that number is 50 then a new enemy is created and sent out to get an object. But my problem is if the level is getting higher and higher then the game will get easier and easier. When stepping through the code, serverDic(selection).Controls has 12 elements, but only 6 of them get copied. Next time this gets called, only 3 get copied. Does Panel1.Controls.clear() somehow kill the references?

In debug mode, everything works fine.When I deploy, install and run the application, I get a System.TypeInitializationException (which I asked about in a separate thread). The inner exception is the following:

If I manually paste dbUserPractice.accdb in the directory above, the application runs ok. Why isn't the installer putting the file where the application will need it? The file is part of the downloaded install package (it is in the 'Application Files' folder as 'dbUserPractice.accdb.deploy')

For every post (row) in the db I also fill puts an instance of a Dropdownlist with items read from the db. That means that for every row I read from the database I read the same db info into the Dropdownlist (see the skeleton example below). A lot of overhead I think. It must be possible to create the Dropdownlist once before the loop and copy from that instance in the loop.

is fine for grabbing a graphic from the clipboard, but I'm after grabbing a file that's been copied there, either copied from explorer or from an email attachment from Outlook.
System.Windows.Forms.Clipboard.GetFileDropList(0) is fine if it's been copied from Explorer, but fails if it's a mail attachment.
How To Get A Program To Wait Until A File Is Copied
Nov 5, 2010Code is below. I am designing this code to transfer a file at a specified time. Right now, I have it sending me an email when it succeeds for test purposes. It will be only when the file copy fails later.
Here's my question: how can I get the program to wait until the file copy is complete to report success or failure? Right now I'm using exists to see if it works, but some other method of checking the file will be built in later. Eventually, this will be deployed to various locations for a bit of automated backup.
