VS 2008 Cannot Import Data Into Dataset Using ReadXML
Jul 18, 2011I have a Dataset Lets call it Dataset1. I have 1 table in this dataset created in designer called settings. I want to be able to declare the intial dataset in one form as a global variable and make a copy of it in another form. However I don't want to fill it until after I have made the copy except that it is not working.[code]The problem is the Dt returns the same amount of columns and the exact column names that I have in the settings datatable. When I do Dt.ReadXml("Myxmlfile") I don't get any rows populated yet the columns are in the xml file and in the dt copy of the datable.

Apr 27, 2010I have a datagridview linked to a dataTable loaded from a sql server via an adapter.I wish to sort one of the column: Filenumber.The Columns is a string. For example:
M-099
M-756
M-777
M-1000
But when i sort the columns by using Me.DataGrid.Sort(DataGrid.Columns(9), System.ComponentModel.ListSortDirection.Ascending), it turns out to be:
M-099
M-1000
M-756
M-777
I would like to know how to sort it like:
M-099
M-756
M-777
M-1000
How should i go about it? I've thought of getting rid of the M- in front and putting it into another column, but it makes filtering nuisance.Also, is it true the a custom sort via an IComparer is only applicable to things without a binding source?

Oct 4, 2010I am creating a data logger that pulls data from an existing OPC server. When the data logger is launched, I look into the OPC server and get the names of the sensors that need logging (ColumnNames() as string) . From that, I am creating a data table with columns based on the items in ColumnNames(). That part is working. What I am having problems with is adding rows to the table. When I read the values from the OPC server, I get an array of strings (values() as string) which is guaranteed to be in the same order as the ColumnNames.I have been trying to use an SqlDataAdapter with a dynamically built insert command, but it is getting extremely convoluted and ugly.Is there an way to add a data row to my table using an array of string values directly?

Apr 9, 2010I have three tables in SQL server which I would like to show and access on a form. Table 1 contains account data, address, contact details etc. Table two contains data attached to a Person, tel no , Mobile no, Email etc. Table three contains details on what awards the person holds, i.e. one person can hold several awards.
Therefore I have a one many relationship between the first two tables and a one many relationship between the second two tables. This is set up in SQL
The first two tables are shown on a form, table 1 via a set of text boxes, table 2 via a datagrid control.
I would like the functionality whereby I could select a row in the datagrid showing the persons name and find the Persons_ID number then use that as a filter to a second datagrid view so that only the selected persons awards show in the datagrid.
Two Data Tables Within My Data Set That Are Loaded Onto My Form On Form_load Using Statements
Jul 27, 2009I have two data tables within my data set that are loaded onto my form on form_load using statements written in code (not the designer. When I change a value for the first table via a text box the change is made to the data set. But when I try the same for the second table, the change doesn't remain in the data set when I switch to a different company and come back. I query the second table using the primary key of the first table but no code is needed when I change the values for the first table so I don't understand why the same doesn't work for the second when I change a value via a data-bound text box....
Here is my code that initially binds the data:

Nov 17, 2009I have a little big problem in one application.
I have a datagridview with data from a datatable, this datatable have these fields (id,num1,num2, date,user,ref,qt,cost,center), some of them are hided in the dgv (id,num1,num2,date,user). The user can edit,delete and add new rows to the dgv.
I have a save button that performs this actions:
First check if there are new rows, and if yes it fill the hidden fields. Then validate the inserted values by the user with a couple of ifs. In the end, i call the bindingsource EndEdit, and call the adapter Update command against the datatable...
This sometimes works others not really, i don't understand why.
The error it's: "Concurrency violation: the DeleteCommand affected 0 of the expected 1 records"
I think sometimes when Updating it occurs to.

Jan 25, 2010I'm trying to do a LINQ Query against a typed datatable that will return me duplicated data.With out going into too much detail, here's the basic setup:
strCode1 - string type
intCode1 - int32 type
intAdjustor - int32
There are more fields but these are the ones that are important.I'm going to do my best to describe this, as it's kind of confusing.In theory intCode1 is a key for strCode1 (hence the names). So each time intCode1 is duplicated, the same strCode1 should appear. Example:

Ultimately I'd like to get a List(Of T) - where T is my typed data row. In SQL, I would simply use a sub query, to get a distinct list of strCode1 and intCode1, then do a count, grouped by strCode1 where I get more than one row.I'm not sure how to translate that into LINQ, AND get the original types data rows returned in a list.

Mar 10, 2009I am designing a form that will create a template of data that will later be loaded into another form.From a menu command "Create New Template" I will need to ask how many Fields will be needed for the new template in an input box. If the user would input say 10, then I need to generate 10 labels, 10 text boxes, & 10 combo boxes. Each group (label, Text Box & Combo Box) on its own row on the form.I also want create the data mapping for each of them at this time.Once I have achieved this then I will add a form that will lookup the template name, and row count given from the above form via the database and load the required rows of items for further data entry.
Since I will have a MAX row limit I thought about designing a form using a Table Layout panel with 25 Rows and 5 columns then doing some sort of .visible true/false for the layout panel row after the user input of row/field quantities.Another question is resizing the form around only the visible rows.

Aug 8, 2011I created a VS2010 application that stores data in xml files with a custom extension (e.g. ".ABC") I would like to be able to open an .ABC file and have the application launch with the specific file's data loaded. This is analogous to opening a Word doc and having Word open with the doc loaded. I have searched for a while but can't even think of a phrase that explains this process. Nothing seems to match "You know . . . that thing that happens when you double click on a data file".

Aug 12, 2011Following is the code which gets xml data from web service and then dataset reads using ReadXml method. This Xml has ID and MyDate tags for each table row (so table(0) will have ID and MyDate columns) and this Xml data does not have schema associated with it. When page is loaded first time, it sorts by ID in asc order. It was working until ID was 999. When next ID came as 1000, even in ID asc, 1000 is showing before 999 in datagrid.
I wanted to confirm that when dataset is loaded using ReadXml, all the columns in its table are treated as string even they are numbers or dates and that's why in ID asc order 1000 is coming before 999.
Also, MyDate tag has date in format "01/31/2011" (mm/dd/yyyy) and it seems that sorting is wroking fine for date. Would sorting by date always work even when dataset table MyDate column is of type string (assuming that my above statement is correct)? Are my two above assumptions correct?

DB/Reporting :: ReadXML And WriteXML As Backup Solution For SQL Database?
Mar 2, 2009I have developed a program that tracks expenses for business trips that uses just a local SQL CE database on the user's pc. I chose SQL CE because the install process was much quicker and easier than Express. I have distributed the solution and I am looking for a way to allow users to backup and restore the data. I though that the readXML and writeXML methods from the dataset sounded like a good method, but I can't get it to work. I have tried a couple methods which have ended in either foreign key errors or not being able to keep the same primary keys as when the data was exported using readXML.
The basic structure for the data is:SQL CE Database -> DataAdapter.Fill -> Dataset -> Displayed to user through binding sources and other means The problem is not exporting the dataset with .writeXML, but getting the data back into database. The one shot .updateAll from the main table adapter creates foreign key failures, so I have reverted to iterating through the dataset and sending one row at a time, but I still can't get it to work.

[Code] So, if I use ReadXML(), it would read the whole document and the dataTable would have "id" column, "name" column and "price" column. But I want to have only "id" and "name" column. Is there any way to solve this problem? But the image and progressbar also hang.
