in my on the job training i need to develop a program (webinterface in later stage) that is able to work with the volume shadow copy service.after about a month of research i have found about nothing about how to program it using the sdk or something like that.so now im asking on forums if there is anyone who has experience with using it in own programs.so what does it have to do?first i would like to be able to get information about a volume that uses VSS. information like how many copy's were made, when were those copy's created. what files are included in the copy.my prefered langauge is C# but im not affraid to learn (more) about VB or C++
I am looking for a way to create Volume Shadow Copies of individual files. I have searched accross the net now for classes and code to use but I haven't been able to find anything. I'm only really starting out in .NET and C#, C++ or any other language for that matter are completely alien to me. Everything I've found on the subject, even from Microsoft VSS SDK is either in C# or in C++. I don't want to use any external programs, everything must run from the single exe file.
Target End Result:
I'd like a file at "\global\class\VSSClass.vb" that houses all the code needed.
Public objVSSClassObject As New VSSClass
For in-line code I'd like it as streamined as possible as it will be used with arrays of pre-set filenames.
objVSSClassObject.CopyFile(srcFile, dstDirectory)
Here's a sample of how the code would be used.
Public VSS As New VSSClass Dim dstDirectory = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Desktop & "\Shadow Files" Dim FilesArray() As String = {"absolute_path_to_file1.txt", _
I found that if using ArrayList, all clone/CopyTo/Add command are shadow copy, not separate copy. How can I do such that after an ArrayList A is "copied" to ArrayList B, change in ArrayList A will not reflect to ArrayList B?
I'm writing an Excel file recovery program with VB.Net that tries to be a convenient place to gather and access Microsoft's recommended methods. If your interested in my probably kludgy, error filled, and lacking enough cleanup code it's here: http:[url]..... The basic functionality seems to work although I haven't tested graph macro table recovery yet.
It occurred to me that Vista and Windows 7 users could benefit from being offered a list of previous versions of the file within my application if the Shadow Copy Service is on and there are previous copies. How do I do this?I looked at a lot of web pages but found no easy to crib code. One possibility I guess would be to use vssadmin via the shell but that is pretty cumbersome. I just want to display a dialogue box like the Previous Versions property sheet and allow users to pick one of the previous versions. I guess I could just display the previous version property sheet via the shell by programmatically invoking the context menu and the "Restore previous versions choice", however I also want to be able to offer the list for Vista Home Basic and Premium Users who don't have access to that tab even though apparently the previous versions still exist. Additionally if it possible I would like to offer XP users the same functionality although I'm pretty sure with XP only the System files are in the shadow copies.
I looked at MSDN on the Shadow Copy Service and went through all the pages, I also looked at AlphaVSS and AlphaFS and all the comments. I'm kind of guessing that I need to use AlphaVss and AlphFS and do the following?Find out the list of snapshots/restore points that exist on the computer.Mount those snapshots.Navigate in the mounted volumes to the Excel file the user wants to recover and make a list of those paths. With the list of paths handy, compare with some kind of diff program, the shadow copies of the files with the original.Pull out the youngest or oldest version (I don't think it matters) of those shadow copies that differ from the recovery target.List those versions of the files that are found to be different. This seems cumbersome and slow, but maybe is the fastest way to do things. I just need some confirmation that is the way to go now.
I am working on a backup utility for use with the mysql db. Because I need the actual backup to run regardless of if a user is logged on or not, I created the backup engine in a windows service.
Basically the backup engine checks to see if a backup job is scheduled to be run and if it is, it kicks off a mysqldump to do the backup. For sake of performance I am saving all backup jobs to the local c: drive then doing a file copy to the user defined destination.
Everything works fine except for the file copy. If the user selects a local resource to the computer it works fine. However, if a network drive is selected, I get an error that it cannot find the path.
I started thinking about it and believe this is expected since the backup engine is probably oblivious to whatever mapped drives that particular user has, i.e. the mapping process is done when someone logs in and my app is running at a lower level.
I started doing some research on this problem and found that some people are saying that windows services are oblivious of networks all together. This seemed a little odd to me so I thought I would bring the issue here.
Is a windows service truely unaware of network activity? How can I change the program to move the completed backups over to a network drive?
I am working on a utility to reformat a text file. Working on language to remove duplicate record entries. However there are desirable ("keeper") duplicates and then those I want to remove. I handled the problem by temporarily assigning a unique number to each @D line, then stripping them off after I've removed duplicates. So far so good, except in removing unwanted duplicates I have an extra of the "keeper" duplicates left that doesn't get removed. See below. I am wondering if there is a way to search for a line in a textbox starting with a certain character, but is also proceeded by 2 blank lines and followed by 1 blank line. CODE IM USING TO REMOVE DUPS yet keep formatting with blank line separators, etc.:
I have a little problem with the shadow of a button when in popup style. [code] This fat border only disappear if I click another button; then the fat border is instead on that button. I'm sure this is by design, but I want this button style without this "feature". Is it possible to avoid the remaining border shadow behavior?
I am trying to solve an issue in my application where the following exception is occurring: there is already an open datareader associated with this command which must be closed first. I am using TableAdapters, which maintain their own DataReaders, and everything seems to work fine unless I am interacting with one of my background workers.
In my code, I shadow the Item property of my collections so that I can retrieve the actual data from the database if needed. Here is a sample:
[code]...
Now each reference to the Item get property instantiates its own DataAdapter, so I am confused as to how the same DataReader will ever be used in this scenario. Is there something I am missing? All the TableAdapters do in fact use the same connection object, but I wouldn't think that would be a problem
i'm trying to copy a file from my computer to another comp. i'm using windows xp, and the other comp is using a win xp embeded. on the other machine i run a web service which has a function that gets the file's url and tries to download it. i'm trying to use a shared directory from my computer, and i'm getting an access denied error. When i try to cennect directly from the other machine (using run...), all works fine, even with a test program.
I have written a service to run an exe. What I have also tried to do is check if the file is present on the local computer, and if not copy it from a networked drive to the local computer.
If File.Exists("\\static1\software\testapp.exe") = True Then File.Copy("\\static1\software\testapp.exe", "C:\Program Files\Testing\testapp.exe") End If
I have previously ensured that the directory exists. When I run this as a service, it doesn't work. No errors are thrown up, but the file is not copied. When I put this into a windows forms application it works fine.
So I made my form transparent by changing the transparent key to dimgray, change background color to dimgray. I also changed the picture box's BG color to dimgray everything was fine except that the drop shadow on the picture I did was just a grey blob.Is there anyway to make the drop shadow look like its a drop shadow?
I ma playing an audio file using: My.Computer.Audio.Play("C:soundsmouseclick2.wav", AudioPlayMode. Background). I want to specify the volume, all i need to be able to do is enter the number via code, i don't need to use any sliders etc. Is there anything simple like: (this is an example of course) [Code]
I am trying to create a basic application that will allow me to open a .wav file and let me adjust the volume of the actual file: like raise the volume by 30% or 10% or some type of other measurement.
I'd like to then re-save the .wav file with the adjust volume.
I have 2 trackbars (scrolling things) and i have a song playing in a media also but what i want is it to get the left speaker volume in 1 trackbar and the right speaker volume current in another, so when the song is playin it will adjust automatically and display the current left & right speaker volume (example: when the media goes louder the trackbar will probably increase) ive seen it in many programs.
So I'm a bit new to the whole Vista/7 audio setup. My understanding is that a new "mixer" is created for each application. Is there some new .Net function which interfaces with these mixers? I'm actually trying to create an application which can adjust the MAIN system volume level as well as the mute function.
I was looking at the Endpointvolume API however I cant get it to work for me :(. Does anyone have a vb.net demo of how to harness this API?
I am trying to write a countdown timer I finally succeeded with MSDN. I get to work whatever I wanted, but this drives me nuts: How can I read and set the volume control? I want, once my timer is run down to zero, read out the current system setting, then play a system sound using Media.SystemSounds.Exclamation.Play() Over time I like to ramp up the volume to 80% or until one clicks the Alarm off button (then stop the timer, no sound, and reset volume).
Imports System Imports System.IO Public Class frmUpdater
When I try to run this I get the following error: The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.I am trying to read all drives with FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS.My PC is using NTFS and is running normally.
It seems like this would be a very easy thing to accomplish, but, from what I can tell, it's most definitely not. My OS is Windows 7. All I need to do is get the current volume/audio level - the master volume. When you click the little speaker icon in the task bar and change the volume - I need that number. All I need to do is get the current volume and assign it to a label. So if the volume is at 74 when the application starts, I need my label to display 74. I've been searching for days now for a way to do this and I'm starting to get frustrated. I've looked everywhere. I've tried 3 different classes, at least a dozen different codes, assorted imported dll's- none of it even came close to what I need. From what I can tell, the current methods are all designed for windows xp. I need a way to do it in windows 7.
get data like the pitch and volume of the sound currently being "heard" through a microphone?
Do you know the little graph which the Windows 98/XP sound recorder used to show? It used to show the pitch and volume of the sound which was being recorded. Like I want to get the data from that.
Basically, I will start experimenting this stuff by showing the volume of the sound entering the microphone in a label. And maybe the pitch too.
I have been at it for a while and cannot get it to work.[code]by double clicking on a picture box. The Start/Stop/Pause buttons work just fine, however I can not get the volume and mute to work.I can physicaly click on the mute button and move the volume bar,but I have no control over the music volume and mute function.
i would like is to include amount1 and amount 2 values into sum only if amount1paidstatus="yes" for amount1 and amount2paidstatus="yes" for amount2, something like for selected day and selected customer.query "should" look something like this:select amount1(if amount1paidstatus=1)+amount2(if amount2paidstatus="yes")from my tablewhere (day=1) and (customer=1)
I am working on a little project for my phone creating some sort of remote to turn up/down my system volume via wifi. The phone will send data to a text field on the website lets say such as "vol up" and the vb app sitting on the computer will be constantly reading this text field for key words like "vol up", "vol down". when it see's a recognized command it reacts by turning the volume up and so on. And one more thing: Is it possible to have a vb app that uses http? E.g., sits on port 80 itself and can be accessed via local ip.
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a generic class and is not marked as [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit interface as the default interface to COM using the ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I wanna put a shadow on my program! Its borderless, because ive used my own graphics.Does anybody have a clue how to add a shadow on the program?(I have made a shadow on the program before, but that didnt work out well, the background of the shadow went white, ive also used the transpacity key and stuff, didnt work)
