VS 2010 - How To Effectively Use Timer For Animation

Apr 24, 2012

How can I use a timer function to animate a form's width being smoothly expanded and contracted on the click of a button. The resultant effect that I'm looking for is exactly what happens when you run windows native calculator
1.Windows + R key. Run: "Calc"
2. Change the views from View option between "Standard" and "Scientific".
I've tried declaring two subs, using width += ## and width -= ##, but that doesn't output what I want, it just messes up things..

VS 2010 Basic Timer Animation - Error Check And Colour Scheme VB Express 2010

Mar 26, 2012

this is my very first posting and I must say I am desperate. I have a VB assignment due in 2 days and I am so lost. I have written a code to draw some graphic, just a basic house, tree, sun etc. I have also written a code to magnify said graphics which were all the specifications of my Assignment 1 part A. Now for Part B I am being asked to extend my program so that: A - My graphic can be drawn using different colour schemes designed by me but chosen by the user B - My graphic or an appropriate part of it can be animated around the picture box if the user chooses to do so. C - Error checking is included.

VS 2008 - Creating Animation Using Timer

Oct 30, 2009

I want to make an application witch involves logging into google. It is basically a small application to always have your gmail with you without always having to go to the web browser and log in. Basically what I want to do is, when the person signs into their google account (or the page url changes) I want the webbrowser to refresh and go to a new point in the form and create an animation using a timer. I dont need advise with the animation, I just need to know how to link it together with the person signing into google. And also, If it's possible I would like to have the person log in without the actual google web interface, but with 2 textboxes and a button. I am using Visual Studio 2008.

VS 2010 - Slowing Down Animation Sequence?

Feb 29, 2012

I'm trying to animate a game piece by using a picture box where the x,y location is changed as the image changes (cycles through a walk animation sequence). This all works fine, however it's too damn quick. I've tried slowing it down using a simple:
for z=1 to 1000000: next
While this works-ish there must be an easier way to slow down code....is there? On a related matter: Why does picturebox animation look so crap compared to combining images in the paint screen section? My picturebox seems to flicker every few frames.

C# - Effectively Disable Sort() Within A CompareTo() Override?

Mar 9, 2010

The CompareTo() method for my class is dynamic, and can range from a simple comparison to comparisons on a number of columns. This is all determined at run time, and it works great.But in some cases, I want any attempt to sort a collection of my objects using the default comparison to just do nothing.

Having CompareTo() just return a 0 for any comparison, to my surprise, doesn't work. The list gets rearranged in some odd, seemingly-random order.Is there a way to do this in the CompareTo() method implementation? I'd rather not handle this up at the collection level by having to override Sort().

Crystal Reports : Get Effectively A Subreport Within A Subreport?

Jan 30, 2010

I'm using Crystal Reports within VB.NET and Visual Studio 2005.I have a report with several subreports. I'm setting List(Of MainStuff) as the data sources for the main report. I'm setting List(Of SubreportStuff) as the data source for the subreport. Each SubreportStuff has a key which links back to a particular MainStuff, so the report groups each MainStuff item with its related SubreportStuff items. (Or, at the DB level, SubreportStuff items have a foreign key, which is the primary key in MainStuff.)

Below shows the Load function for the dialog, which contains a CrystalReportsViewer. In the Crystal Reports report editor (within VS 2005) I set the subreport link to pull only the related items into that part of the report.

Imports System.Windows.Forms
Public Class dlgMyReport
Private rpt As New MyReport
Public theMainList As New List(Of MainStuff)

[code]....

This works fine.Now, though, what I'm needing to do is in essence the same thing, but pull items based on the keys in the subreport items. This would mean having a subreport within a subreport. However, it doesn't appear that I can do this (the option for inserting a subreport is grayed out when I try to insert in something that is already a subreport).

VS 2010 - How To Stop Sub With Timer

Aug 31, 2011

I have a sub routine that connects to a database. If the database is unavailable it takes about 45 seconds to timeout, even though I used connect timeout=10 in the connection string.

So I figured I would try using a timer. This is how I have it
Private Sub SQLConn()
Timer.start()
SQL.Open()
Timer.stop()
Private Sub Timer2_Tick
(this is where I need to put a command to stop the sub SQLConn)

I have the timer set at 10 seconds. Unless there is a better way to do this what command can I use to stop the connection or the sub?

VS 2010 - Timer To Check If Directory Exists

Jun 2, 2011

I have a security timer to check if the directory exists which I want to access after it's been created by an external application, but what I have done doesn't seem to be the solution although it sounds like a very normal solution to me.

What I have done:
1) External application gets run which is going to create the directory
2) I set the variables to make the timer able to know what to check
3) My application needs to wait till the boolean variable gets set to true, so I put it in a

While:
vb.net
'Non existing files protection
While (Not bDirectoryExists)
If bDirectoryExists Then
Exit While 'In case it got created in the meanwhile
End If
If Not tmrFileCheck.Enabled Then
tmrFileCheck.Enabled = True
End If
End While

4) In my logic, the application should go out of the while now because the variable is set to true, and the code moves on, which never happens..
