VS 2010 Read CSV Into Array (Sort/Edit/Add/Deleted) And Re-Save
Aug 15, 2011
The gist of the program is to:
- Read a CSV file into an array
- Get this visible in a list box, so the values can be:
- Sorted
- Edited
- Deleted
- Added
- Finally save these manipulated values back to the text file
so I am a little confused. I am trying to refresh my datagrid when I have either add, deleted or edit a row via another form. I have it so my main form shows the datagridview, I have bound my controls to the database and I see all rows, no problem. I also have it setup to double click a row and it brings it up in another form to edit that record. This works. but it doesn't refresh the datagrid when saved. I am trying to follow this thread, specifically this post Refresh Datagridview - Post 2 Here is how I am loading the datagridview in main form
I've got a csv text file "test.txt" in the following format with one record per line in the following format: Builder,Bob,B,99HappyStreet,Springtime,4
I've read them into an array and in design use the first two to populate a listbox and then use a selected index to fill text boxes and some list boxes.
How do I write the changes made in the text fields back to the position in the file where it was? It has me stumped although I'm sure there is a SelectedIndex option that can work.
I've considered having all the new/changed data saved as a new record and then just deleting the 'old' entry but my delete code gives me a selectedindex-1 index out of range exception error that I'm working on as well. I am sure both problems are related.[cod]e...
Sub Sort() ReDim RollsCC(NumOfPlayers - 1) For N As Integer = 0 To (NumOfPlayers - 1)[code]....
Here I am creating a temp single dimensional array, merging my 2d array into it, and then attempting to sort it by Rolls(N,1), which is a integer 1-6, Everything seems to be working right with the exception of this.
RollsCC.Sort(RollsCC, 0, 1)
How would one specify a numeral sort based on the first character in the string? im aware that I am switching Rolls(n,1) and Rolls(n,0) information during the sort.
I create an array of this and load different distances into the ProjectileDistance property of the array. My question is this: How do i sort this array from smallest to largest value of ProjectileDistance?
I am using the Array type .Sort function to sort my array.By default it places the result Array into Ascending order Least to Greatest How do I change that to Descending order Greatest to Least?and How do I change it to Closest to logic? or does that not exist?Assume there is an Array of Numbers 0,13,21,-2,4,5,1.34 and I want them to sort closest to 0 or some other arbitray value; the Output should look similar to:
Im making a program that can make diffrent profiles. So it have to save: Username, Password, etc. then be able to read it.But I have no clue how to read diffrent lines, and stuff.I was thinking if ex. the pass was like this:<Pass>Pass here</Pass>I can read what was between those things, but I coulnt get it to work ...
I'm trying to sort an array based on a structure but whenever I do this, it basically erases all the data in the entire array.I have verified that the array is populated correctly, it is when using array.sort that everything returns blank.
I have a byte array and I want to read it using a structure. This is a common situation with structured files having information in various places in the file and it's much easier to read the data if it's mapped with a structure. BitConverter would be great if it worked with Structures, but it doesn't. Basically, I want to read the same memory address either as a byte array or as a structure, or have a function that works like vb.net MyStructure = BitConverter.ToStructure(bytearray(), position) Maybe there's a pointer method to do this?
I have an image that has dimension of (100,100). I am using FileStream class. When I run the code I get EndOfStreamException error at line 44. I have pasted the for loop section of the code below.
For x = 0 To 99 For y = 0 To 99 byteRead1(x, y) = br1.ReadByte ' line 44 (exception thrown here)
I'm working on a new application for one of my Managing Editors at my company. We are wanting to build an application that only has 4 combo boxes for user options and then according to the options that the user selects, the application will spit out 3 random lines of text that can be copy and pasted into another application that we use.We are in the process of creating a rather large (1000's of lines) CSV file that we are going to use as a repository for the text. Let's call the data file SRG9000Data.csv..I'm almost 100% certain that I'm going to need to read in the entire datafile as an multidimensional array because we are setting up the CSV file as follows:[code]For each of THOSE categories, I'm looking at having 8 possible items for <Sports>, and 3 items for <PlayType>, <GameImpact>, and <Scoring>. <Text> is being use as a possible Text Phrase that the system can select from randomly provided that the other area's of the array are met.The CSV file will have 1000's of lines. Of those, the system will "filter" though all of them so that ONLY the ones that meet the selected criteria can be used, then choose 3 of them randomly and use that as output.
Extra information: I am currently establishing that the CSV file being used is setup as 0-7 for <Sports> (0 = Baseball, 1 = Basketball, etc..), 0-2 for <PlayType> (0 = Defensive, 1 = Offensive, 2 = Other), 0-2 for <GameImpact> (Negative, Neutral, Positive), and 0-2 for <Scoring> (0 = Non-Scoring, 1 = Other, 2 = Scoring); <Text> is a String.I am clueless when it comes to setting up an array like this; It's been many many MANY a year since I worked with array's in QB and I feel I may need more than a refresher course. Now, if I'm understanding correctly from some of the forum lurking i've been doing, multidimensional arrays CANNOT be of mixed type, correct? If this is the case, the how can I read the entire CSV file into an "array" (if you will) so that it contains Integers AND a String? [code]
I'm using the following code to read in a highscores file with the score written first and the player's name written to the next line, and then display the top 3 scores or fewer if there aren't 3 scores written to the file. A highscores display should have the scores sorted with the highest first so that's what this program tries to implement.
Array.sort() isn't doing a damn thing. In fact, the program's not even reversing the arrays like it should either. I've tested array.sort() this way with the names and scores arrays given explicitly and it works fine. I thought maybe it was still reading the data as string even though it's declared otherwise but it rounds off decimals when I change the array type to Integer so I'm pretty sure it's not that.
I have no idea why reading the data in from a file changes how it's sorted. My teacher didn't understand what was going on either. Does anyone know what's going on here?

I need to sort an array containing a list of words and search the same using binarysearch. For certain reasons, the word-list must always be sorted using the sorting-rules of "en-US" i.e. American Regional Settings. The code will run under various international Operating Systems and of course this will mean that the word-list will be sorted differently according to the local Regional Settings in use. One problem could arise on a computer/device running with Lithuanian Regional Settings. Why? Because the letter "Y" in most languages is sorted like X-Y-Z while in Lithuanian, the sort order is I-Y-J. This behavior would create havoc to my program.
[Code]...
However, in means of flexibility I believe Guffa's answer is the best one. Why? Let's use another example:In German, the letter Ö is sorted Ö-X-Z while in Swedish and Finnish, the order is X-Z-Ö. In Estonian the sort order is Z-Ö-X. Complicated, isn't it? Guffa's solution will let me force Swedish sorting-oder (changing CultureInfo) on a device running under German Regional settings. Using Comparer.DefaultInvariant with its association to English wouldn't help in this case, probably the letter Ö would end up with O. Therefore my vote will go to Guffa.
I'm trying to get a string from a byte array previously read from memory
i can get the string like this
dim mem as string= ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(memory) or dim mem as string= UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetString(memory) but when i try to concatenate this with another string i get a strange result dim result as string = "this is you memory string " & mem & " problem string" no matter what comes after mem in the concatenation it seems like it is not there when in fact it is because when i try this (mem has two chars in it) dim result as string = "this is you memory string " & mem(0) & mem(1) & " problem string" problem string appears so what i assume is that there are some vbCrLf chars in the string after reading (or is it from the conversion?)
does anyone know how to solve this kind of issue?if i add code to an existing code in my control/function/subroutine it will not executed and also if i delete some existing code in my program the code is still executed even though i delete it..
How will I transfer deleted record into another table instead of deleting it permanently? I think it is what we call "history"..somehow..For example I have 2 tables. 1 is Original_Record the other is Deleted_Record. If I deleted one record in Original_Record, the deleted record will be transfered into Deleted_Record table.
I am making a program for my Dad's company that can keep track of inventory so I need to store the info in a .txt and load it up etc. I currently am using a stream writer to write to the text and I got that down pat I am just having troubles loading it back up and putting the info in specific text boxes aka sorting or parsing?
Here is my current code. It is kind of useless because I have tried so many methods I thought maybe I could use a ReadAll function have it go to a string and parse from there hoping it would have been easier but it has not worked out for me so far.
I have xml file and try to load into datagridview, how can I save the xml after I sort it by desc? But when I select the row after I sort, the selected row data show in textbox is different from datagridview
DS.ReadXml(Application.StartupPath & "\user.xml") Dim DS As New DataSet If DS.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 0 Then
Database edit then save problem Im trying to make a database and for the most part it works. The form1 has add new button (which goes into my form2 window that adds all of the information there, then I hit save, when I exit it and comes back to the form1, with everything saved. There is a listbox that shows all the names, then I click on anyone of the names and try to edit it and it works, then I hit the save button, it comes up with the error under
I want to make a program where I load in a file in hex format and have a number of check boxes where if selected then certain hex values change.
So it would search for offset d5dc and change the last 4 values to 00 E1 F5 05 and then then same again for other check boxes with different offsets set to each one.
I have a number of word documents I am converting. Everything is going great until I get a file that is read only. In this case I get a Save As prompt.
Is there any way to open the file in read/write format? I should have admin privileges so access isn't an issue.
I'm using VB.net to open the files. More specifically
