Distributing A Program On CD?
May 14, 2009My problem with distributing a program on CD has not as yet been resolved.
It does appear as if the problem is related to the .NET file as the error messages I get state the file cannot be found.
how and where I can get it and what I do with it when I've got it?
Distributing My Program By Email?
Aug 29, 2009I'm trying to send my program (a very small program) to a friend by email, but the two methods I've tried are both causing errors at his end. I've tried the two methods described in the helps files - firstly, just finding the exe in it's folder, compressing and sending it by email. That worked for the first few files but now it no longer works. Secondly I've tried publishing the file using the build option to a DVD/CD (i.e file). The file works fine to install the program on my own machine, but when I send it to my friend (compressed again) he gets errors.

May 11, 2009I have just tried to publish a program on CD using the ClickOnce method.Everything worked well until I tried to install it on my Laptop.The program installed and ran OK on my desktop (where I created the program) and I copied the files to CD. There were two files;The program name of type Application Manifest (.application) and the Setup file (.exe).I went through all the procedure as dictated in the help file including the part that said "Closer Look: Including Prerequisites With Your Program" but nothing I tried seem to work. It appears as if I need to download further files??

Oct 7, 2011I'm in the midst of developing a class library DLL for a third party application. On my machine, the developers machine, things are going along smoothly. I can compile/build and my DLL is loaded, and thus works as expected.
I've been copying the contents of the Release directory from C:Solutions...Release to C:ProgramDirectory. I realize now that my DLL is loaded into memory from the Release folder, and not the folder I copied it to.The point being of course, I want to distribute this third-party add-in to my users. And sure enough when I try that, presumably the DLL isn't loaded into memory and thus not available to the user, like it is on my machine.
I tried the first obvious thing and registering the DLL on the user's machine, but that failed."The module "..." was loaded but the entry-point DLLRegisterServer was not found." It's apparent I am missing some key step or caveat when it comes to developing this class library.
Distributing An App That Connects To Oracle 9
Nov 18, 2010VB2005: So I created an app that connects to an Oracle 9.2.0.1 using the .net oracle adapter. I can issue queries and process the results. This all works fine on my development machine but now that i have distributed the app to my group I find that it bombs on certain workstations, specifically when it comes to connecting to the Oracle db. I've done a little bit of research but havent come up with anything definitive.
So what should I install on my users desktops to make sure that the connection works?
What Details To Keep In Mind When Distributing Application
Apr 11, 2012On Windows 7, VB.NET Express, I have developed a simple Forms application. I don't really make use of any external plugins or anything - it just has a couple buttons, pictureboxes, GDI operations to modify some images.And now it is complete. And I would like to already upload it. But, since this is actually the first time I try to submit something, what other details should I keep in mind when distributing my application? I mean stuff like... will my application work as expected in other machines? Other Windows versions? I am not in a proper position to test it in other machines, I fear, so I am relying the "default" settings and hoping it will simply work.

I already made a project using Visual Studio 2010 (Visual Basic) and my database connected to SQL Server 2008 R2, also set up a PC 1 act as a server and the other is client i set this up for beta test.
I'm having issue about putting an IP Address to the server pc, actually if the IP setting of the server pc "Obtain IP Address automatically", i can open my application in the client pc, but once i put IP Address on the server PC i cannot open/run my application to the client pc, i cant figure it out how can i fixed this issue.
Create An Application Without Distributing A Referenced Class Library
Mar 1, 2011I am using VB .NET 2003. I have created a user defined Class Library and created a reference to it in my application. Is there a way I can compile the application so that the Class Library DLL is embedded into the application? I would really like to be able to distribute the application without having to distribute the DLL as a second a file.
In other words, I made a New Class Library lets say called TEST. I developed a new class within this library called MYCLASS. I built the Library TEST and created TEST.DLL. I then made a new visual basic project called APP1. I added a reference to TEST.DLL. I now can use TEST.MYCLASS within my APP1 project. The application APP1.EXE will run in the test environment, but if I move it to the runtime environment it will give me an error "File or assembly name TEST or one of its dependencies was not found". To correct this error I can place TEST.DLL in the directory where APP1.EXE resides. I would prefer not to have to put TEST.DLL in the directory. Can I easily compile it into APP1?

Jun 6, 2012I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

I am trying to make the program close if the -1 string is sent with the program. See my installer allows for me to run certain programs before it actually installs, but it doesn't shut down copies of the program itself. So I have a next startup instance set to shut the program down if the -1 is received. But if the program is not running it starts up instead. This is not desired. form1.close doesn't work. e.cancel = true doesn't work, etc etc. What can I do to make the program not start during this instance.

Jul 4, 2012I have my rpg, still, first time working on it n ages, and I want each user to be able to set their own personalized picture background for the game...
each character in the game has its own dedicated folder for each file that the character has relating to it...
what I want to know how to do, is to have my game copy the loaded/chosen background image to their respective characters data folder, and have the game reload/reset the games default background image, to the one piced by he player...I am having a hard time figuring out how to do this however...I've tried a lot of different things...and nothing is working yet...

The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly.The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.

Apr 8, 2012I have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

Flash Card Program - Type All The Words On A Text File And Have The Program Randomly Pull One Of Them
Feb 15, 2009Anyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).

Program Files Are All Mixed Up - In Class Saved Program In With Load Of Other Test Programs For The Same Assignment
Jan 8, 2010In class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

One of the required functionalities is allowing the user to look for such documents. The User normally search directly for the obvious attributes of the document, like a unique ID, or it's Title. The problem is that from the search parameters is not allways known which ones will the user fill. For example the user inserts the name and version of the deocument, another time the user enters part of the Title and the person that delivered the document, or might just enter the document number and nothing else. Some of the data might even be incomplete, like title, name of the person who created the document and so on. The idea from the person who designed the system (I'm only reimplementing it) was to allow easier searches for the user, and allowing the user to search for more parameters tod with the idea that "the more parameters, the more specific results", since the results are always group of documents instead of single documents.

Sep 20, 2010I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?
VS - Program Doesn't Work Though Flash Player - When Click On Icon Of Program - Shows Error Message
Sep 30, 2010I am really confused! My program doesn't work if I don't have Visual Studio here in my PC. To test it I have uninstalled Visual Studio. But my program doesn't work though Flash Player is present there (I have used Flash animation in the first form).
To be more sure about it I have installed Flash. But it's not working! That means the Flash animation file (.swf) is not making a problem! It needs support from Visual Studio to start. Doesn't it mean that some files are not attached with a setup file as a result it needs Visual Studio to run? Let me tell you how I create a setup file of my program.
