Add Title, Subject, Category, Keywords, Comments, Source, Author And Revision Number To My <appname>.exe File?
Sep 20, 2009
when I generate my <appname>.exe file, the summary properties fields are all empty. There must be a way I can add this, but I haven't found it yet. I am running VisualBasic .Net 2003 standard edition.b

How do I edit JPG File Title, Subject, Comments, and Tags/Keyowrds?The Exif information provided was helpful, but in the end did not actually solve the real riddle I was working on. So I'll take another angle at describing the desired result:
I want my VB.NET app to allow me to edit the following details of a Jfile (see image):
Title, Subject, Comments, and Tags/Keyowrds
I had a handy image to include but not enough points to post it. Weak.
RIGHT CLICK A .JPG IN WINDOWS and select PROPERTIES
Win XP: Select the "Summary Tab" and Look at the "Description" group
Win7/Server 2008R2: "Details Tab" and look at "Description" group
how to edit those fields through VB.net in Visual Studio?
EDIT: The ultimate goal is to use the image viewer/editer that I built, to sort thousands of images of random webjunk I have collected over the years.Upon viewing the image (say "00001.jpg") and figureing out what it is ("ceiling cat sends son" picture of a lol cat), I want to type in the description (already done in the form). When I hit enter I want to rename the file (from "00001.jpg" to "ceiling-cat-sends-son.jpg", then fill in the keywords, title, subject, and comments fields with the same data: "ceiling cat sends son".
local indexing and with my (later) automating a SQL server referential database for use with site wide searches on my website. The ONLY thing I can't seem to figure out is how to modify those four fields as if I had right-clicked the file and added the keywords.

I've looked at the headers for several .lit files and the author and title are easily visible when viewed with a hex viewer, my problem is that they appear to move (relatively), suggesting that the header information is pushing them around.
I've tried to work backwards from their current location and determine what links to what but to no avail. I realize that the ereader format is 1) proprietary 2) locked but wonder if anyone who has some experince could point me to the structure or possibly show me the links from the header to the author / title fields.

When you right-click on a file and select the property information for that file, in the Summary tab, there is a listing of various properties for that file.(Title, Category, etc)Is there a way to access that particular property data from Visual Basic?I'm specifically interested in trying to access the Revision Number property of a given file.

I just want to know if the following behavior is by design. I start Visual Studio and open my VB project and rebuild it. The assembly version is set to 1.0.*. I get a version number of 1.0.2839.26817. Now as long as I keep visual studio open every time I rebuild, I get the same build and revision number. I have to close and reopen visual studio to get the revision number to change. Again I just want to know if this is by design since everything I have read says that the revision number is either supposed to be random or the number of seconds since midnight. Is there a way around this?

As I say, I've got an application which I'll refer to as "AppName" (note the upper case 'A' and 'N') which, for example, attempts to reference "My.Application.Info.ProductName". Adding a breakpoint and putting a QuickWatch on that call shows the error:

I am using Git for source control on a .NET project. Is there any way to include the current Git revision number in my EXE upon compile time?
I'd like to be able to have the revision number available for an "About" dialog, or similar. Perhaps there is a way to update Settings.vb right before build?

I have a VB.net 2005 project MyProject.exe which is referring to a strong named dll ReferenceDll1.dll in its references. The ReferenceDll1.dll is referred as Specific Version=False. The version on the strong named reference ReferenceDll1.dll was 1.0.1.2 when I compiled my project. Few days later, I got updated ReferenceDll1.dll as 1.0.1.3. Replacing this dll in the install directory fires following exception.
System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'ReferenceDll1, Version=1.0.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=0242eaa067ef8af5' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

I work with a large shared mailbox within which several individuals each have a folder of their own. I am trying to develop a tool which will monitor how many emails each individual has in their own folder including a breakdown of what categories have been applied to each email (IE In my Subfolder there are 20 Emails - 10 Blue, 5 Red).I have already coded a prototype but so far I have only been able to get a general count working not a breakdown of categories.Does anybody know if this is possible? I have searched a see lots of code for setting the category with VBA but none for querying it.

Why did they choose to add a new keyword AndAlso, instead of just changing the functionality of the existing And keyword?
Why would one want to use And, instead of AndAlso anyway?
Is it not just increasing the number of keywords unnecessarily?

I know it sounds strange but let me it explain. It has a purpose, but really all I'm looking for is the item with the most duplicates.I know it's possible and I've had a few ideas already, though none were successful or practical. What I'm doing here that requires this is creating an intuitive search for clients in a database. You type in a single field and click search. Behind scenes each keyword broken down from the single input field is searched through the table of clients, hitting each column and returning matches. the results are large in numbers, but truly it's the client that appears the same number of times as there are keywords.

I'm trying to search files for matches, and depending on what catagory the match is under, do a certain function... Say I have a .txt file that looks like this
[Code]...
Then I have a form with Button1 and Textbox1. Say I type "Cat" into Textbox1 and press Button1. It would then bring up a MsgBox that says "Match found under Animal catagory". But if I put "Three" in Textbox1, the messagebox would say "Found under Numbers catagory".

Well I have some music files I want to load up from my program, it is meant to list out all the files album name, song title, track number, etc... it's meant to be a custom player which can load up mp3 files & play them.I can get files to play & everything fine, list out directory it's stored in, full file path & file name & such & extension but stuff like album name, song title, track number, song length I am unable to find out how to get this info.
Previous stuff has showed a way to retrieve them from the file by reading certain bytes & stuff but doesn't work because apparentally the album art is inside the file & at the beginning instead of the other information tags, since such pictures are bigger or smaller at times, I can't simply determine with my current knowledge how to read out the album art either or determine how long of text it would be to skip over, then at that point that the tags are in the place ..maybe there is a way from managed code to do this or API? Reading bytes to determin the info & re-create the album art, and piece together the album name, song title, etc... isn't what I want to do, I want something that's easier to do, I thought it would be simple to make a program just to play some music.

How would I make a program that would search through a .txt file, and find certain predetermined keywords. Basically, I have a very simple keylogger on my son's laptop to keep an eye on him. My hope is that I would make a program that would go through the .txt file, and if one of the keywords is found, then I would have the program execute a little something I have cooked up to warn to stop. The only problem is, I do not know how to search through the .txt file.

I am building a program that strips out certain keywords from a much larger file. I am using code that .paul. provided in a different post, but I can't get it to work correctly. Here is the code that I am using: [code] Basically, the first match will appear in textbox2, but no other matches appear after that. I put a breakpoint at the For Each loop and checked out the locals. I am showing 2,502 matches for the variable "match." I just now put another breakpoint in there and I can see that it is stepping, but nothing is recorded. In the archive is a file named debout.txt. This file should be used for the testing.

I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?
