Asp.net - Cancelling The Keypress [Enter] Action On A Telerik RadGrid
Feb 7, 2012
I have a Telerik Radgrid containing all the valid usernames and passwords that can be used to unlock functionnalities on my web page. The password is encrypted, so you have to click the row to decrypt and show the actual password. All usernames and passwords can be changed by an admin When the admin presses [ENTER] to submit the new username/password combination (instead of pressing the submit button), the new combination is actually submitted (which is fine).

I have inherited an application that uses telerik controls. This is my first time to work with it and I'm a little confused.I have a RadComboBox that has its values hard coded. When the user selects an item, a RadGrid is refreshed to show the records that correlate with the item the user selects from this combo box. This all works great.I'm trying to create link buttons, so that when the user clicks on one, the RadComboBox value is changed to whatever value I set it to in the codebeind page and the RadGrid is refreshed to show the appropriate records.I can set the value of the RadComboBox, and see what value it has when debugging, but the RadComboBox in the browser does not reflect the change and the RadGrid is not refreshed when I programatically execute the event handler for it.

I have a Telerik RadGrid that has three bound columns and one button column. I would like to let the user edit the values in only one of the bound columns. The user can add a new record so i can't set the two bound column to read only. Is there anyway i can do this in the ASPX or do i have to do it in the code behind? I have some code that is working but it is not the best.Here's my code:
Case "Edit"
Dim aoeAnswerCode As GridBoundColumn = CType(e.Item.OwnerTableView.GetColumn("aoeAnswerCode"), GridBoundColumn)
aoeAnswerCode.ReadOnly = True
Case "Update", "PerformInsert"[code].....

I'm basically trying to implement the functionality of the example here ax/grid/examples/dataediting/editondblclick/defaultvb.aspx) on my own site, but instead of using a data source control located in the page markup (like in the example: essionDataSource), I'm using a dataset that I get from some server code-behind. I am able to successfully get my double-clicked row into edit mode with my dropdowns successfully

I am trying to add to items to a combobox by using the "enter" key. It does work when I add the first item, but if I manually clear the box and add another items it does not get added to the list.
(1) I click in the combobox and type "hello" and press the "enter" key
(2) I click on the dropdown arrow and see that "hello" is in the list
(3) I select "hello" in the box and erase it, item is still in the list
(4) I type "goodbye" in the box and press the "enter" key
(5) "hello" is still in the list but "goodbye" is not
Here is the code:
Private Sub CopyrightCombo_Keypress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles CopyrightCombo.KeyPress
If e.KeyChar = Microsoft.VisualBasic.ChrW(Keys.Return) Then
[code].....
if I comment the if/end if line and type "hello" the items added to the combobox list are: "h", "he", "hel", "hell", "hello" wich makes sens since the add items is run on every keypress? I know that my commands for adding items is good, I know that my keypress event is handled properly but not when I specify using the "enter" key.

I am using the Event Handler below for the Enter Key Press Event, it is running when ever any of the keys is pressed. This is not so much a problem when the app. is running, unnecessary yes. It is giving me problems when ever I am Debugging using Breakpoints. How can I change the Handler so it only runs when the Enter Key is Pressed, doing away with the If statement?
Private Sub Form1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyPress
If e.KeyChar = Chr(Keys.Enter) Then
'Different code blocks will run here depending on what
'TextBox or Label is selected.

I have been out of VB since VB 6, but am back into it to write a basic app. I have created a listbox and am able to add data to it from a textbox via a command button. However, I want to give the user the option to simply press the enter key after they have entered the info the textbox, instead of clicking on the command button. I tried calling the function the command button is using from the "ENTER" event on the textbox, but all that does is execute the function when I click on the textbox? I'm sure this is very simple. What am I missing?

I'm building a Dialog in Winforms. It's got the two OK and Cancel buttons that are there when you create it, which is what I want. In this dialog I also have a TextBox and a Sub (coding in VB.NET) that handles its KeyPress event. I need stuff to happen when the 'Enter' key is pressed. Now, I've done such KeyPress handling times and times again. This situation, however, is different, because as soon as 'Enter' key is pressed, the dialog automatically assumes you're pressing the 'OK' button, returns a result and closes.
In both the Designer and the actual form when running the application, the OK button is highlight, which means is has some kind of a focus (for the lack of a better term) at all times. How can I disable this feature of a dialog? When I debug my code, pressing enter does not even get to the sub handling the KeyPress event. It simply closes the dialog and returns the result, therefore I can't really step through the code and see what happens behind the scenes. To restate the question, how can I disable this functionality?

I have two issues. The first is that I want to make a textbox scrolling similar to how credits scroll. I don't want it to move on the form, just to scrolling the text down a line/pixel. I thought I could do it with the "Lines" element, but I'm not exactly sure how to execute it.
The other problem is with my flash screen. Right now I have it set so when a button is click, it goes onto the main form. I don't want to use the button but rather have it so if Enter is pressed at any time, it'll go to the main form. All the solutions I've tried to use involve the "e.Keycode" code, but for some reason its unavailable.

I have a keyboard handler for my combobox1:
Private sub Combobox1_Keydown(....yaddda) handles combobox1.keydown
if e.keycode = keys.enter then
msgbox(combobox1.text)
end if
end sub
this always displays an empty message box,I need the value of the combo box before the enter was pressed, apparently the enter key empties the combobox1.text.

a datacontext defined in a module(domain services ado.net ria)a page having add/delete methods whenever any method is executed, it is found that all the previous actions (NEW RECORD ADDITION and DELETION OF RECORDS) are carried out before the new action is carried out normally
this behaviour is not prominent but "when using break points and inspecting the values of the variables and table object to be added to context, it is clear that all the previous actions take place again. even when the datacotext. savechanges is called, even after that still all actions carried out on the datacontext repeat themseleves, when any new action is to be carried out

Does anyone know how to cancel a row change in a data grid? What I want is to allow the user to modify a row in a grid. When they try to leave a row after changing it, then prompt them to save the changes before moving to the new row. So far, the rowleave event is working to prompt them to save or not. But I'd like to give them the option to cancel...which should leave them on the original row. The rowleave event, nor any other similar event, appears to have the abiity to cancel the move.
I thought about remembering the row number and just putting it back on that row...but it seems like there probably should be a better way to cancel the row change.

I have a ListView that populates some fields whenever the user selects an item. However, if they change the data in the fields and then select a new item without saving, I want to display a message box that warns that their changes will be lost, and asks them to confirm whether to continue. Sounds simple.
Unfortunately, the ListView's SelectedIndexChanged event cannot be cancelled, and it's actually called for each change in the selection. So, for example, if item 1 is selected and the user then selects item 2, the event is called twice: once to remove the selection of item 1, and then to add the selection of item 2. If you go from having one item selected to having five (for example), the event fires to remove your original selection, and then again for each of your new selections - six hits in all.
Obviously, this makes it a bugger to determine when the event should be cancelled and reset back to the original. I obviously don't want my message box appearing six times....

I'm working on this form, and I got 1 text field I am using for validation. If the user doesn't put text inside the box and he clicks the save button it throws a messagebox saying that he didn't put text inside the box, but it still saves the data to the database anyways.
If txtUsername.Text = vbNullString Then
MsgBox("All Fields are Required!!")
Me.btnSave.Enabled = False

I have the following problem. I have a worker in VB .net (2010) which runs a shell-program. The shell program is a service and output stuff like:
Server initializing...
Server opening port...
more info...
I am able to 'catch' the output of the shell and add it to a textbox (using set text function). And I am able to Cancel the worker by clicking on a stopbutton, however when there is no more output by the shell I cannot stop the worker anymore. At least I suspect that's the case. I've tried checking for endofstream (commented section) but that doesn't work. I've also tried to same code with some test text in stead of 'clsProcess.StandardOutput.ReadLine' and that also works. So I came to the conclusion it must have something to do with clsProcess.StandardOutput.ReadLine being at the end?
Try
clsProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False
clsProcess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True
clsProcess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = True
clsProcess.StartInfo.FileName = serverpath + config_executable

Suppose the user wants to cancel for some reason. I have checked that I can detect a click on my "cancel" button in a timely manner (DoEvents sees to that) but how can I stop the recursive file copy without ending the program? [code]
