I'm writing a simple paint program in VB 2008 that allows the user to create rectangles using MouseDown event to anchor one corner, MouseMove to stretch (or grow) the rectangle, then MouseUp event to complete the rectangle.The last statement in the MouseDown event is Me.Invalidate() to trigger the form's paint event where all the rectangles are drawn (refreshed).

View 3 RepliesJust finishing off an update to an application written in VB.NET that used to run fine under CE.NET 4.2. Deployment platform is now Windows Mobile 6.1. The application runs in full screen, however whenever a new form is opened, the task bar, i.e. the bar with the start button comes to the fore and then the new form takes over. This is particularly annoying as I have a form that has many sub forms which are 128,128 and still the task bar flashes and obscures part of the user input screen

Sometimes when updating the entire screen or moving around controls etc, there is some fairly bad screen flickering.

I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps.Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

Where are the art instructions to be found? The ones featured in the examples are pretty basic. I've looked all over but can't find anything.
I'm putting together a small program in Visual Basic Express 2010, and part of it is to take a delayed screen shot.
I've got the main code working, I've got Visual Basic delaying taking the screen shot with System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.Sleep(5000), but what I'm looking for is a way to draw directly to the screen the number of seconds remaining.
You know how in Windows, in the Display Properties under Settings, when you click on Identify you get a huge number displayed on each monitor?
I'm trying to recreate that, with the number counting down until the screen shot is taken, giving the user plenty of notification to get their required applications in focus for the screen shot.
Is it possible to do this? Or is it something that will take a heck of a lot of coding?
I use Visual Basic 2008, I've got a flickering problem when using Timer and call Graphics.clear routine. I have read many advices to avoid this Flickering problem and try to use them but I still can't fix this problem of flickering.

I have a panel that has a BackgroundImage set to "zoom". Because of this, the image usually has some grey "letterboxing" showing the panel beneath the BackgroundImage. I want to paint on the Graphics Object of the Panel using its paint event handler. Is there a way to contrain my painting to just the image part of the panel? Is there a way to find the rectangle that the BackgroundImage is occupying within the panel?
P.S. I don't want to make a graphics object from the BackgroundImage because I'm already using that for some other "paint layers".
Well im just upgrading from VB6 and i was able to paint images to the background of a form. The same method does not seem to work in VB 2008. Is there a way i can draw/paint images to the background of my form?

View 1 RepliesTheir system executes a DB query everytime they select something, causing performance issues. So I thought that I would read the superset of data into a datatable, and then whenever they want subsets, simply run against the datatable. I've done some testing and the performance difference is HUGE.The problem is how the screen paints on postbacks. The screen will temporarily go blank then the data will appear as expected. Of course, they don't want the blanking of the screen each time they select a subset of data.
I am currently using a repeater to handle the display of data due to the nature of what they want to display. A datagrid might be a good alternative for sorting functions, but I think it would still blank the screen when it data binds.How do I go about filling the repeater without blanking the screen? Is it even p[ossible? Logically I would think not but I don't have the experience. Or perhaps I can fill a datagrid without blanking the screen on the postback?I'd rather not have to go out to the database every time, but if that's the way to go then I can live with that.

I have tried creating a custom ToolStripProgressBar using different methods including inheriting from both ProgressBar, ToolStripProgressBar and ToolStripControlHost. I always ran into difficulties doing in this way. Inheriting from ToolStripStatusLabel works well, but with one issue...
In order to have the progress bar update in the statusbar, i have to call StatusStrip.Refresh. Trouble is, adds a huge overhead to the drawing of the progress bar graphics. Simply calling the invalidate method of my ToolStripStatusLabel does not seem to render anything to the screen. how to have my graphics draw without calling the refresh method?
I have a form that I want to dock and move to just above the task bar on the right side of the screen. How could I do this?
View 3 RepliesI have a ScreenCapture class that allows me to capture the content of the screen by specifying a X Y value of the top left and X Y value of the bottom right corner of a rectangle. This all works fine, however the problem that I have is that I want to capture the content of a panel on a form, the panel obviously has a location X and Y which gives me the top left position and I can use the width and height propoerty of the panel to determine the bottom right position. The problem that I have is this obviously gives me location of the panel on the form and not the screen. The other problem that I have is that this form is a MidiChild for another form.
So basically what I want to know is how can I get the location of the panel but as a screen position?
how I would be able to print the entire portion of the screen which the form occupies,Basically, my problem lies in that the way I print now will properly print the form's buttons/labels/textboxes etc. But it will not print the WebComponent AxChartspace that I have added to it. View 13 RepliesI have a htpc project that I am working on. The main program loads dll plugins which are basically other win forms. On each of these forms, including the main program, I use a picturebox (a double buffered picturebox) for the background image and then draw everything on it by hand. Whenever I load the form from the dll and show it, I get a weird flicker. It looks like it is the previously used double buffer. Is there any way to clear the background double buffer before the flicker? Or am I going in the wrong direction?

Notice the black screen with the white lines on it or the flash of the desktop after I click "Movies." How do I get rid of that?

How (if even possible) can I show this page in full screen mode but at the same time allow each control on the form to format and resize in proportion.The best analogy I can give to describe what I want is when thinking about PowerPoint. When you create a slide and then press the F5 button to go into slideshow mode, no matter what size monitor or resolution you use, it always fills up the screen appropriately.

I have looked into SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout, but either I don't understand what they are doing, or I am not using them correctly, because they don't seem to have any effect. Someone told me that there used to be a way to turn off paint events in VB 6. Does this still exist in .NET?
I need to print a windows form which contains radio buttons, checkboxes, and other controls.
Printform doesn't work - even with the scrollable option it only prints the visible screen.
The PrintDocument doesn't work, because I can't add controls to it.
I can't capture the screen image, because the form occupies more than the visible screen.
I have a form that is the main form.I don't want it to show when it loads, but when I do Me.Hide() in the Form_Load event, it flickers visible before it hides. Because before I made this form the main form, the one I was using previously didn't flicker.
