View 1 RepliesIs it possible to change the application version without publishing the application? Because I'm going to make an auto updater which needs some version information to work, but I don't want to have an installer.
View 3 RepliesI have recently created an application with Visual Basic.NET. I published my application and installed it. Now the question is that I need to know where exactly does the application gets installed on my system ?
View 6 RepliesAbout publishing my program. there's a lot of files made after publishing unlike in vb6 when i converted it to exe file theres only one file. hmm how can i make just one exe file in vb9 is it possible? another question do i have to install the program after publishing?
View 5 RepliesWe currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.
I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.
i can publish my app fine.it creates the setup and the rest of the files, whatever they are.on my operating system, the setup runs fine.when trying to install it on another system, it asks for the microsoft 3.5.net.this update can take quite a while.how can i publish my app, in such a way that it can run from the files in the setup and not have to have any other addons, as .net framework. i know it's possible, since i was able to install other software before i had the .net framework.

View 1 RepliesI've written a really simple launcher app for my team at work to use. However I wrote it in VB.net Express 2010 so its using .NET 4. I need it to be compatible with older machines that are using .NET 2 or maybe 2.5. I don't want to force upgrading to a higher .net if its not needed. And in some cases we work on old machines that can't be upgraded. My app is really simple and I'll post the code if needed. I am still a noob, my coding is ugly, and this is a quick and dirty tool.
View 1 RepliesI'm having troubles publishing my application to use in any computer. That's because I don't know how can I publish it within the database.
View 10 RepliesI have a vb.net application that has to be published on the server to a specified path. After publishing, when I try to install the application, I get the below error msg:

Can anyone tell me what the technical difference is between Application.Exit() and End?Why would you choose to use one over the other, for example?
View 5 RepliesIn my code I've allowed used to create their own mazes and save them, under whatever name they like. I've also included a few pre-created mazes. The mazes themselves are saves in .txt files in the bin/debug folder of the project, along with a .txt file containing the maze names.
I really need to publish this program to send it to my teacher, but when I publish it it doesn't include any of the .txt files in my bin/debug folder.
I have created a windows application. Now i am ready to distribute and install the program, but I want to have the user need a password to install the program. Like a product key that I could set per individual customer. Is there a way to do this?
View 2 Repliesjust want to know what is the difference between these date values?Once some one told me that its difference is server date and client date but not sure which one he meant.Below is 3 type of date currently I'm using and don't know what is the difference between them.
DateTime.Now is from System.DateTime.Now
Now is from Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateAndTime
Today.date is also from System.DateTime
I have a few questions regarding the GUI applications.I am aware that Console applications are non-event based programs which do not have the pretty GUI interface.Having done C/C++ on *nix with a main() as the entry point and in Windows 3.1 with WinMain as the entry point into the application, I am trying to figure out the entry point into the VB application.
View 4 RepliesMy company is in the process of analyzing how to convert and upgrade an application that was written in Microsoft Office Access 2003. Recently we purchased Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
The first step we'll probably take will be to convert the Access data to Microsoft SQL. Is there a recommended way of doing that? What should be done with the VBA code?
The second step we're not sure about. We're wondering in we should develop all new software in VB or that we should still use VBA, if possible, after the data has been converted to SQL.
I have added some files that I need to be downloaded to the Application start up path. So I set Build Action as content now the files have been copied some where

Using: VB 2008 Express?I created an application that connects to my MySQL, and everything works fine, but...
1. On my development computer, Windows 7, 64bit, I add the MySQL.data.dll file as a reference. I publish the program, run the setup.exe, and sucess.
2. I then copy my published folder to my test computer, Windows Vista 32 bit, and upon running the setup, the program fails to work because it cannot find the Mysql reference.
3. I then transfer my entire project over to my Vista computer, publish the program, run the setup.exe, and sucess.
4. I finally found out what was happening. My Windows 7 comptuer was not including MySql.Data.dll.deploy file in the Application Files published directory; but when I compiled it on the Vista machine this MySql.Data.dll.deploy was included.
So, in the end, I cannot compile the program on Windows 7, because it fails to create the .deploy file, and use it on Vista or XP (for some reason Win7 doesn't need this .deploy file?); but I can publish it on the Vista machine and install it fine on Windows 7, Vista, or XP. My targe CPU setting is Any computer.
I was wondering, what are the benefits of having a variety of different data types available to programmers?
View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble wrapping my head around Events and their Handlers in general. I was working from some sample code that used them, and I can't understand why use an event rather than simply using a sub. I'm absolutely sure I'm missing the bigger picture here.
[Code]....
The Event allows a class to say 'Do something when this happens' in a very ambiguous way, leaving the class which created the Object to define a Handler; what that action should be. That Handler can, and very likely will, be unique to each instance of the class.
It seems to me that this would likely be achievable (on a basic level) through indexing and enumeration, but that would get messy and become a lot of code to write rather quickly. This is probably a much more flexible and extensible way of handling things. I'm going to post this anyway, in the hopes that I'll get someone to tell me whether I am correct in my observations or totally off base, and that it helps someone else who is having trouble with this concept as they dip their toes into OOP and event driven objects.
I have windows application in which I get currently windows logged in username using following environment property
System.Environment.UserName But when I ran application using visual studio, it works without any problem. But when I publish application & try to run it, it get System.Environment.Username value as nothing.
cause of this issue? Or any other alternative to get current system logged in username.
Explain why data typing helps the programmer when writing a program?

View 2 RepliesI've made a fairly good Windows form application to solve quadratic equations, but I am having a hard time understanding the publication process microsoft uses in Visual Studio. I'd like to distribute my programm as freeware on my blog.
View 5 RepliesI have a situation with an application of mine where I noticed I get a different result when the application is installed in comparison to it running in Visual Studio. If the application is installed a certain aberration pops up in this computer graphics application at a certain point in one of the screens but if I run the same group of settings or you could say the same "screen" running the application from Visual Studio I don't see the aberration ever happen. I tried deleting the bin and obj folders and then rebuilding before creating an installation and it doesn't change anything and whether I use InstallShield or create an installation using ClickOnce I still see the same issue. I have Enable application framework unchecked but found it makes no difference checked or unchecked
View 9 RepliesTrying to publish a click once type app to a local directory and create a websetup with the published contents- so that i can give tat setup to install in two different servers. but as the publishing wizard takes a URL - separate setup is required for each server. Is there any way that i can create a single setup which i can use it in two servers..?
View 1 RepliesI have a solution with two projects. The main project connects to the second project via a reference, and the reference path is local to my machine. It looks like it references the .exe file.So when I publish the main project (ClickOnce), i get the following error:
Application validation did not succeed. Unable to continue. In the log file, under Error Details, it says
System.Deployment.Application.InvalidDeploymentException (RefDefValidation)
- Reference in the manifest does not match the identity of the download assembly Project2.exe
- Source: System.Deployment
How can I include this second project? Should I publish it, then reference the published files? What do i reference? The .application file?Is there a way to just include this second project, so when I do publish the main project, the second one just goes along with it?

At the moment I'm developing an application (Similar to Swiftkit.net's) that will aid users when playing Runescape. My next major project on the program is to Make a highscores look-up. (If you dont know about the Runescape highscores, HERE)Now, i want to grab data from that webpage, and add it to a form on my application. The form in particular, will display a specified persons levels on that form under labels.First of all, i have NO IDEA on grabbing stuff from the web in VB. Second, i have searched far and wide for something similar, but everyone that has something similar is not very willing to part with their hard earned code.
