Changing Value Of Hardcoded Double Constants

Feb 15, 2011

after working with some VB.net files in a project, I find that somehow the values of hard coded numeric double values have changed, that is:[code]This has happened in a lot of the source files of the project. When does this replacement take place? While I can understand that the original numbers cannot be exactly represented as double, I do not want this substitution, is there some way to prevent them? Initially I thought that was some behavior of the source control system (TFS)

Error BC30648: String Constants Must End With A Double Quote

Feb 4, 2011

I noticed that if I leave off the terminating double quote for a string constant in Visual Studio 2010, there is no error or even a warning, i.e.

Dim foo as String = "hi

However, the continuous integration tool we are using flags an error:

error BC30648: String constants must end with a double quote.

Is there some language rule in VB.Net that makes a terminating double quote optional "sometimes"? Is there some setting in Visual Studio that will make it flag this as an error, so I can avoid "breaking the build" in this way?

Localizing For Hardcoded Strings?

Sep 23, 2010

I am wondering on the complexity and advisability of translating hard-coded string values in my VB apps. I have used the GNU gettext library for C apps, but going through creating a custom wrapper to interop for my VB libraries seems redundant. I know that there is the option (which I have used) of doing satellite assemblies for localizing the form, but for the strings that I have coded this does not seem to work. how to use the power of .NET to extra the strings from my code, put them in a string table and have separate string tables be called based on culture selected?

C# - List All Invocations And Hardcoded String Parameters Of A Method From A .Net Assembly?

Nov 24, 2010

For example, assume that in my assembly, in Namespace A, Class B, there is an instance method with the following signature: void Test(string someString, int someOtherParm, string someOtherString ); This method is called multiple times, from multiple places in the assembly. I would like to be able build a list of all invocations of this method and the value of the someString/someOtherString (assuming they are hardcoded). In other words, I like to extract a list of calls like the example one below, if they happen in the assembly somewhere: Test("some text", 8, "some other text");

Changing A File Getting Double Inputs Into File?

Jul 12, 2009

I wrote a file and I am getting double files.... My Loop executes when its equal to what I want to change it starts my sub procedure which copies the new information into the temp file. It would be there if it then went back to the end of the loop and continued however its going back to the loop and putting in the old information that I changed from. So then I get a duplicate name with different records.

Dim fmtStr2 As String = "{0, -16} {1, -10}{2, -14}{3, -14}{4, -11}" 'format by zones
Dim str() As String = IO.File.ReadAllLines("csvSTOCKS.TXT") 'ReadAllLines into the str() array.

Flickering - Double Buffered Picturebox - Not Double Buffere - Black Screen With The White Lines

Nov 17, 2010

I have a htpc project that I am working on. The main program loads dll plugins which are basically other win forms. On each of these forms, including the main program, I use a picturebox (a double buffered picturebox) for the background image and then draw everything on it by hand. Whenever I load the form from the dll and show it, I get a weird flicker. It looks like it is the previously used double buffer. Is there any way to clear the background double buffer before the flicker? Or am I going in the wrong direction?

Here's a couple of videos of the problem:

Notice the black screen with the white lines on it or the flash of the desktop after I click "Movies." How do I get rid of that?

Add Built-in Constants To Program?

Jul 30, 2010

It would be good if visual basic had standard math constants like pi, the Euler number, and others built-in so one doesn't have to define them each time and have the possibility of making typos. Even some of the physical constants in MKS unit could be included like the Boltzmann's Constant, speed of light, permittivity and such. Each could be a special simple like kb for the Boltzmann's constant. Or it could be a properties like phyconst.c for the speed of light, phyconst.kb for the Boltzmann's, phyconst.sb for the steffan-Boltzmann's constant, pmathconst.e for e=2.71.

Make Array Of Constants?

Feb 23, 2010

I've got a situation where I need a table of constants in my app. It's actually a table of 43 formatting options where the description will appear in a drop down and the detailed settings will be used by the codeIt appears that VB can't do arrays of constants. So I've fiddled around with a Constructor in a class that creates a new array then loads up each element with hard-coded .Add statements. It doesn't seem elegant though. So I then decided to try an XML file, that I load in the Constructor and assign the contents to an array. This is what I've decided is the best, most elegant, option - but I'm throwing this question in to see what you people might recommend ! The data is mostly strings

Replace VbLf And Chr() With Constants?

Mar 18, 2009

We're trying to trim the number of assemblies we load during startup, and one of the easiest to cut is the Microsoft.VisualBasic assembly. There are alot of things in it that were easy enough to replace, like Left(), but I'm struggling to find a good way to replace vbLf and Chr(). vbCrLf was easy enough to replace with Environment.NewLine, but we have a few spots where we generate content for a Unix-based system that is expecting line feeds only.

Where Are Excel VBA Constants Defined For .Net

So I am creating macros in Excel that format the spreadsheet, and then using the code it generates in my application. Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel

Is there something else I should be importing? For example, in this line, xlNone and xlDiagonalDown are flagged as not declared.
