Dynamic Way Of Loading The Information From The XML File Into A Specific Object Property?
Aug 11, 2010
I currently have a XML file for an application I am developing. I have built a a XMLFile.GetContent function to read my XML File and load the content into a set of specific objects. These objects are then added to a collection and passed back to the main code to be loaded into the memory of the application.I am looking for a dynamic way of loading the information from the XML file into a specific Object Property. I have added comments to the function to show what I want to make dynamic.Content of XML File
This question is more of a fundamental question then anything.
I've got a custom object collection, lets call it People, that holds my Person class objects. The Person class has a property called Phone Numbers. The Phone Numbers property is a custom object collection of phone numbers that are retrieved from another table. So...
Private People as BindingList(Of Person) Class Person Private mName as string Private mPhoneNumbers as oPhoneNumbers
[Code]....
I'm inclined to go with option #1 because option #2 would make a lot of calls to the database if there are a lot of persons living in New Jersey.
I want to do translation recursively on all components in my form. So my function will start on the form. Before the recursion, it's obvious that I have to know what property containing the children that the current Object has.[code]...
The method I want to use it, I will check if the current object has property Items if not, check if it has property Tabs, and so on... Then the last fallback, check if it has property Controls.
Now the very question how could I check if the current object has specific Property?
I am faced with the prospect of having to completely rewrite the application.I have suddenly started to get this error message all the time - it seemed to start after I added a table to the schema, but deleting the table makes no difference. I can't see anything wrong with the connection string, but as it seems to be entirely undocumented, that doesn't mean much.
The connection string contains DataSource=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory| est.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=Trueand certainly the string works when I use "test connection" from the application setting edit box. I am assuming that for some reason it is not evaluating the Data Directory , but can't see any reason why it shouldn't. Any ideas gratefully received! What might be a clue though is that I can't get rid of the table I added. I have deleted it from the database, deleted it from designer and saved the file, but it just keeps reapearing! Even when it is not showing, there is still a table adapter in the .xsd file. I am reluctant to start editing this manually because of the danger of screwing something else up - I did try but it caused an error somewhere else (VS helpfully didn't say where)
I know how to load a txt file into a single text box, but im having trouble loading a text file with multiple output information into multiple text boxes using commas to separate the information.
The duplicates need to stay as they are in the text file. I just want the duplicates deleted from the listbox when viewed. How would I do that? Say there are two orders made by the same user. I only want the user to show up once in the listbox...
Basically my program creates a text file based on whatever is contained in the 6 list boxes. What i need it to do is load the text it created back into the relevant list box. text file looks like...

The below picture is generated by the following code:
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Paint(ByVal sender As Object , ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) Handles Me .Paint
[Code]....
What I want to do is when I click on each grid on the form (Touch Screen), a tooltip of some stored information about the grid appears on screen. For example, if I click my mouse on square 6,8 then some stored information such as grid number, grid name, level...etc appears on the tooltip on the screen.
In a ASP.NET app from a procedure IN a VB code file a dynamic control is called. The first problem may solve the second. In the following line of code I am getting an "end of statement expected" error at the following line.
I am trying to load a xml file into a data set by loading the information into a data row. when i try to complete the task it throws a nullReferenceException. the row has data in it and i used the code earlier and it work.

I want to build a MVC helper function for which I pass a Entity Framework object and have it build a select. Generally speaking I tried something like this:
Public Function RenderSelect(ByVal helper As HtmlHelper, ByVal sSelectName As String, ByVal aItmes As Array, Optional ByVal sTitleKeyName As String = "name", Optional ByVal sValueKeyName As String = "id") As String ' open select
[Code].....
However, it isn't working. It would be great to have a way to do this and pass the current entity object.
I am currently developing an application that will be the "base" for several components (business reporting systems, order management, etc). The idea is that our customers will install this "mother application", and we will offer components that will slot into it, expanding the functionality.
Now, here's my idea for how to make this work. I have some of this basic functionality down, but I want to get other people's opinions, ideas and experiences with this sort of thing before I move too far in a direction that might not be the best way to go:
I've seen some other responses about this and they talk about interfaces but I'm pretty sure you can do this with classes and base classes but I can't this to work.[code]....When it tries to convert whatever Activator.CreateInstance(t) returns to the base class of type Behavior I'm getting invalid cast exception. That type should be of CharacterController which is defined as a child of Behavior so why wouldn't it let me cast that?
I am using the Microsoft Encoder 4.0 dll's for capturing any activity. I have used registered dll as been imported in my project. but if the expression is not installed then there comes error in my application code.(actually the dll is missing to be used if expression encoder is not installed)."how to check for available dll and use it in my code?"
I now have a need to dynamically load a dll into my application and I've found the reflection/assembly information and it's fairly easy to implement so I thought I was on my way. However, I quickly found out that I'm only able to use 'shared' methods. What I was originally thinking was I could have one shared method 'library.beginprocess' and then that would make all the necessary calls to the other methods, but this doesn't work unless all the other methods and class level objects are also shared.
I feel like I'm missing something or somethings just going right over my head. I've looked at many, many sites and examples, but I've only run across examples that expose 1 method,[URL]..which explain how to implement a plugin architechture, which I have not tried yet, but maybe would allow me to keep my class structure the same without having to make everything shared?
Since I've been writing my prgram, I felt the need to provide documentation in much the same way VS2010 does.I've searched everywhere I could, but all the references I could find where for older versions of the IDE.It appears there is no builtin facility to produce documentation and this sounds silly to me.I found external programs, but at 300$ a licence it's way over the top of my budget.Even the hints and tips stickied on this forum are out of date, as they refer to VS2005.So how should I produce inline documentation for my classes
I am attempting to create a program that users can create "cards" that have user inputted data. There are textboxes for each field such as Name, Location, Description, etc What is the best way to save and load this information?
I searched on the forum / Internet for the solution how a PropetryInfo object (of a Public property) can reveal if it has a Private Protected Setter ... it was all in vain .... all help I found was about how to "Set" value of a public property having a Private Setter.I would like to know if I have a PropertyInfo object of a public property, how would I know if its Setter is Non Public?
I tried, in a exception handling block, where I did a GetValue of the PropertyInfo object and then called SetValue by setting the same value back... but to my surprise it worked well and didn error out.
I'm having a problem with loading my MS Access Database. I can get it to load but it won't load in a row. My friend told me to try this but it puts all the information in a column instead of putting all the information spread out accross the row.
Here's my code: Dim lb_Connection As New OleDb.OleDbConnection lb_Connection.ConnectionString = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE = pass_database.mdb" Dim lb_SelectCommand As New OleDb.OleDbCommand [Code] ..... Also I'll attach an image of what the program does when I load it.
on a Windows Form, an object myObject is bound to myObjectDataBindingSource like this:myObjectDataBindingSource .DatSource = myObject on the form, i have a check box bound to the property: chkProp1 for example of the object: myObjectDataBindingSource In the code when the checkbox is clicked, I need to go in code and change another text property of the object txtProper2 for example like this:
Private Sub chkProp1_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles chkProp1.CheckedChanged
I am using VB2005 and trying to put an application together.What it needs to do is retrieve information from a binary file, possibly alter that information, and put it back into a new file.The file is a .wav file with data appened to the end. There is an additional section at the end of the .wav file which stores xml data.I have found that if I open this in a hex editor and make a 1:1 swap on any of the bytes that the application that the file is for can still read the XML.If I tried to add or remove characters from the XML then it would not read. I located a header byte and incremented it to resolve this.
This worked as an excellent bandage to do conversions where the data always needed to be changed to the same thing.What I have been asked to do is build logic that allows for different things to happen depending upon what data is contained within the file.The method that I am currently trying to impliment is:
Read through the file with a system.io.binaryreader
Searche for a bytestream that will signal data is coming
For example:
If System.IO.File.Exists("C: est estread.wav") Then Dim findit() As Integer = New Integer() {&H3C, &H55, &H73, &H72, &H44, &H65, &H66, &H30, &H31, &H30} Dim i As Integer[code].....
And then extract all the data till the end of element marker "<" It seemed like there should be a better way and I was looking for some insight. If I proceed with this method, I will have to read the file one time to gather the information and then a second time to write it all out with the header modified for length.This is my first experiene with working with binary files in this way.Also,I've been experiementing with building a string and slapping it back in at the end using the binarywriter.write(string) method.I noticed that it was putting in header characters before the string.These seem to change if I change the length of the string.At one point it was d0 07. Later it became e7 07. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this header from being inserted?
I tried a for each loop to grab all of the characters from the string, convert them to a byte array and deposit the byte array into the file, but the header remained the same. When I write the byte array generated from a system.io.binaryreader I do not get this header.
I have a listbox of a object called Account, which has 2 fields, password, and username. How can I compare a New Account to all the accounts in the list and see if the password matches?
I know how to handle a single objects property changed event very easily. I want to handle a objects property changed event that is part of another object.
Given Object:
[ObjectY = Y] + Public WithEvents X As ObjectX
I would like to do something like:
Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged
Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.
