How do i make a variable that can hold more than 1 piece of data. I wan't a variable that can keep 4 number in it. When i count them in using a for loop the only thing i have after it is finished is the last number counted in by the for loop.

How does the GC dispose objects created in the following 2 scenarios?
1)

In Option 1, I don't create local variable to hold the reference of the object. In Option 2, I hold the reference in local variable.What option is better and why? (if any)
What's best practice (in VB.Net):
Function GetSomething() as String
GetSomething = "Here's your string"

or
Function GetSomething() as String
Dim returnString as String = "Here's your string"
Return returnString

Obviously, neither of these implementations make any sense, but they're just meant to illustrate my point. Is there anything to be gained by using GetSomething itself to store the return value instead of declaring returnString locally and then returning that (does it avoid having an extra string allocated/instantiated - and if so, are there any performance/memory benefits)?
So I do not know at design time if the var ms is going to be a stringreader or a memorystream. So I am trying to do basically this:

But I get an error saying "type mytype is not defined". How can I do this?
I have a program that simply checks if the account number and pass word match. And if not it allows you to create it. But i have no idea on how to create something that will hold the data and will allow the user to add and remove sets of data.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to import a text file into a data table using VB.NET. I need to loop thru each line of the text file and put certain elements of that line in a new row of the data table. The line may contain 50 elements, but I only need to get 15 of them. The very first line is a header row, which contains "File Name", "Object Name", "Object Weight", etc. The trick is the element locations move from file to file. For example, "File Name" element may be located at 0 in one file and then 15 in the next file. I need to find the exact location of my desired elements and save them to a variable. Then use that variable to locate the exact piece of data in the text file line to place in my new row.
The code below obviously doesn't work, but it kind of illustrates what I need to have done.

I am trying to make a program that will be an auto-run in a game for me, the movement key is W and when i use SendKeys, it just spams W really fast (but with the KeyUps also) so my character just slowly goes and stops goes and stops. Is there a way I can just hold the W key down through VB.NET (such as just placing your finger on a key and holding it down)?

I have a bit of a problem. I am using an Access database to hold data for my VB app. In the VB app, I have a data source thats pulling data from the database.
I modified the database today, deleted some tables, added another one, but the data source in the project window does not show these updated changes. I had to reconfigure the datasource with the wizard to get the changes to update.
Is there a way that i can get the data source to update itself when the form loads?
I'm not sure if this is a simple problem or not but it's frustrating me to no end.

I then created an array list and used a message box to display the data to see that it has been stored. It does but I am not sure how to group this data. As for the Getter and Setter, the reason I put the question marks in is because I want to return the whole array there. The class will eventually have other properties which are basically permutations of the same data, but this is the full set that I will use when I want to save it out or something. Now I want to return the whole Array, but typing "Return fullDataSet()" doesn't seem like a good idea. I mean, the name of the property is "fullDataSet()." It will just make some kind of loop. But there is no other data to return.

On my server-side code, though, I'm calling off to another piece of code, which I want to have a maximum of, say, 10 seconds to return a value. If I don't have a response within 10 seconds, I want to force my own server piece to set my result equal to 0, and return to the client.

I have a VBA form in Microstation I am using to try and help automate a task. The only problem I am having is I am reading a textbox (Filebox.Text) and setting it as the variable (FN). It works, because I used Msg.Box (FN) to test it. However, in two of the lines of code, I am trying to use (FN) to pass the typed in filename to the command to run in Microstation. Unfortunently, it gets passed on as (FN).dgn instead of the actual filenale typed into the textbox. Is there a way I can make the variable actually seen as a variable?
