As we pass data to a database in a clear cut way, there may be situations, when we might fear data stealing. So can we simply encrypt data at the time of insertion, so that the data privacy will be maintained and the front end can only see the data.
View 1 RepliesI am attempting to find some code to use in VB.NET to decrypt a string that has been encrypted using the Java crypto libary.All of the code I have found so far uses an Initialisation Vector and Key to decrypt but the string has been encrypted using the Key only. (Using an Initialisation Vector is apperently an optional step in Java).Does anyone know of code that I can use (preferably in VB.NET but i could convert C#) to decrypt AES 128 Bit encoded string without an Initialisation Vector?

View 3 RepliesI need to be able to accept a password from a user in a WPF app, encrypt it then store this in a database and be able to decrypt later on. However I'm not sure how to implement this.
This is completely trivial so whether it's safe or not doesn't matter. All I need is for it to get working only I'm unsure exactly how to do it. I've tried playing around with the DESCryptoServiceProvider() but haven't gotten anywhere.
To be clear, how exactly do I go about converting a simple password into something that's been encrypted and storing it in the database (and what fields would I store it in). At this point, I'm happy if there's only one key and that key is being defined in the source code.

View 3 RepliesI have been using RSACryptoServiceProvider and was using the template code provided from the MSDN resource page.url...I wanted to encrypt the data on my computer and transfer the data to the FTP server and have it decrypted there. I have the encryption and decryption code but it is in the same program and only work during the instance it is open. The intention is to have a program that will encrypt and send the data to the FTP Server. There will also be a VB Script on the server to decrypt the data and store it in a separate location. How do I get it to store the public key on my computer and the private key on the server? Also, how to I transfer the encrypted data over to the FTP and have it saved there?The purpose of this project is that we have people located over the globe and are sending sensitive information to an FTP server at the home office. My boss has insisted on the data being encrypted before sending anything. But, on the server it will be decrypted so that a select few can go through the information.

View 5 RepliesI'm attempting to use symmetric encryption to encrypt some data, and store the key necessary to decrypt with the data in a MemoryStream. (While I know that this alone is really dumb security-wise, I'm going to use RSA to encrypt the symmetric key. Right now, though, I'm trying to just get this part to work.)I'm using the FileHelpers library to parse the data for my delimiter (the semicolon, as I don't believe I'll ever have a semicolon in the data). Unfortunately, in my decryption function, when it's parsing, it only returns back one record. And, if I show the entire string of encrypted data created at the end of this function, it doesn't appear to be using multiple records.I'm wondering if when I create the new cryptostream, it's defaulting to the beginning of the memory stream, so when I write my encrypted data, it overwrites the data I had just written to the memory stream.[code]

How should I rewrite my code if I want to upload without creating a temporary file and by using stream? My FTP client is able to upload from stream. My FTP client uses PutFile method to upload files ('Upload from stream by StarkSoft ftp.net in my code)

2. decrypt the encrypted Sql server express connection string password on the fly when connecting to SQl Server over a vpn or direct to web based sql server database
3. decrypt the encrypted ftp site password on the fly when my application connects to my ftp site to upload client's database backups
The issue I have is that the secret key for the encryption / decryption is hard coded within the encryption/decryption functions. So anybody who decompiled my application would be able to generate the same encryption, as they would have the encryption secret key How can you hide the encryption secret key so that if anybody decompiled my app they could not reproduce the decryption function
Just started VB programming this week and have found a wealth of information about what I'm trying to do. Problem is, some of it is more complete than others.Here's what I'm trying to do:In Form1 (my main form), I want to instantiate a class that contains a couple of properties (speed setpoint and position setpoint). When I click a button, I want to pass this data to Form2 and populate two textboxes on Form2 with the properties of this object. I want to manipulate the property values on Form2 and click an OK button which closes the dialog and returns the manipulated data, updating the property values of the object. Here's the algorithm I'm following:1) On Form1, instantiate the class2) On Form1's "Pass Data" button click event handler, instantiate a Form2 object and invoke the ShowDialog method, passing the object as a parameter.
3) On Form2, overload the ShowDialog method to accept the object as a parameter and modify the method so that it returns the manipulated class data.4) On Form2, in the ShowDialog method, populate the textboxes with the class data that was passed in.Here's where I get stuck. I having problem when I try to pass value from ImageButton to a controlparameter, then the update command can retrieve the value from control parameter to execute update statement.
I want to pass value Status=1 when ImageButton APPROVE is clicked, else pass value Status=2 when ImageButton REJECT is clicked.
Where and how should I assign value Status? When I run my code, I receive this error : Must declare the scalar variable "@Status".
Or any recommendation to pass the value Status?

I am working on a very simple program for someone and because it's been so long since i've programmed, I'm looking for an answer as to the best way to do the following.
My program consists of tracking incident reports and each report needs to have the data entered as well as the "paper form" linked to it that shows the members signature. I have everything completed on the program but how to get my file to link with the incident. I am using Access for my database and have been looking everywhere online on how to attachment documents within Access using the Attachment Datatype. So my question is.....
Should i find a way to import the file to Access, and if so, how do i do this, or should i just send the file path to Access as a text field, and then hyperlink the file when it is displayed on the report? I've never done anything like this and was just looking for some pointers.
I need to pass data between a vb6 app and a .net app. This data will either be written or read every second. It is about 30 fields. Both apps reside on the same machine. I am currently passing this data via the registry and it works great but it makes me a little nervous. I would do it with a text file but I am worried about data loss.

I am new using Vb. I did create an app that accept general customers info, and save it into a database using the bindingsource component(I don't know how to do it with SQL from VB). Everything was fine, but adding a couple of maskedtextbox has become difficult. I don't know how to pass the value of this fields to the database. I used the following code:

Leaving the original fields in the form, I see the values on them, but they never goes to the database. Is this just possible using sql command from VB?
I am new to VB.net and attempting to write a small program as a learning exercise. I am writing a simple clock in/clock out time type of program where on Form 1 a button is clicked to clock in, then a button is pressed to clock out. When the clock in button is pressed the date and time captured and shown in a label 1. The clock out button places the date and time in a label 2. Label 3 shows the elapsed time between clocking in and out. I also have a label 4 which keeps on adding elapsed times (user may clock in and out several times) to show total time worked. All of this works fine.
I have made a dataset and datagrid on Form 2 to store all of the clock ins and clock outs. I have a history button on form 1 which takes the user to form 2 where the history can be viewed in the datagrid. I cannot figure out how to send data to the data grid from form 1. I thought the simplest way would be to place the value of label 1 in the first column of the datagrid, the value of label 2 in the 2nd column and the value of label 3 in the third column. Then when the process is repeated the values will be entered into row 2 of the datagrid and so on.
