I am trying to open a project in Visual Studio. I have VB.NET and C# installed. When I open the solution, it says
"The project file D:MyProjectsComboSample.csproj can not be be opened."
"The project type is not supported by current installation"
What do I need to install? C# is already there.
ComboSample.csproj
Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00
# Visual Studio 2008
Project("{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC}") = "ComboBoxSample1", "ComboBoxSample1ComboBoxSample1.csproj", "{6A1F1EE5-4AED-40E0-9517-3EAC47442628}"
EndProject

I've downloaded the MSDN "101 VB Samples" from the MS site and I'm getting an error that reads "The project type is not supported by this installation". I can open the other files that I've tried (about a dozen in other folders), so I'm wondering if it is something specific with the VSTO files, or something about my VB setup.
I thought at first it was a problem with the path where the file is sitting, but even moving it from C:Documents and Settings[my name]My DocumentsMSDN to C: didn't work...Edit: I have also tried opening in notepad and converting the file to UTF-8, changing the File Association from MS Visual Studio version selector to devenv.exe, and running devenv /setup at the command prompt, all with no luck (all these ideas were found through Googling the error message....).

I have tried to find the sdk ('Windows Software Development Kit') mentioned in the 'GIF Encoder and Decoder Sample', but there are so many SDKs I can't find the one I need. I am using visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition on Windows XP. The language I program in is VB. Can someone point me to the right SDKs for the sample and OS and VS version?

Error Message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL 2005 are supported VB.NET" I am using VB.NET 2008 and attempting to connect to SQL Server 2008 with XP as the operating system. I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. FYI, the error does not occur when I am using code to connect to SQL Server but when I attempt to connect using one of the designer wizards this error occure.

I have Visual Studio 2008.
When i try to create a new VB project (.exe or .dll - doesn't matter) or try to open an existing one, I receive the following error:
"C:Documents and Settings.....WindowsApplication1.vbproj" cannot be opened because its project type (.vbproj) is not supported by this version of Visual Studio.
To open it, please use a version that supports this type of project.
I tried un-installing Visual Studio and then re-installing again - same result.
It was working fine in the beginning. Between the last time it worked and the first time it didn't - I installed some Oracle tools, not sure if that affected anything. What's interesting - the problem is only with VB projects, C# projects can be created and opened.

Can I safely move ReferencePath information from a .vbproj.user (or .csproj.user) file into the corresponding project file? Note: All developers will be using developing from the same location on their machines. We'd like to allow users to maintain their own settings for other things, but have this basic info be setup once and checked into source control to be shared to all.

Ok, most of my Visual Basic experience I admit was with VB 3 and VB 5. I'm just starting with VB 2005 Express, and get this error when trying to connect to a new database.
I'm using Windows Vista and have the latest Microsoft JET version, so I have no idea why I'm getting that error.

I'm developing application that is plugable. The plugins are loaded via Assembly.LoadFrom(). In my solution I have 4 projects. A WPF, 2 DLL and another DLL that is a plugin for the app. The plugin project references one of the other DLLs. When I build the Solution and run I was getting an error trying to use the plugin dll because it was expecting an older version of the referenced project. I had to clean and rebuild the plugin project to get it to run correctly.

I recently upgraded the MS SQL Server installed on my personal computer from 2005 Express to 2008 Express. Problem is when I try to add an SQL database file to a project using VS 2005 I get an error message saying that the version of my database server is not supported, I must have SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later installed. I didn't do it yet but I'm pretty sure that when I open the other projects that I included a database file to it, I'm going to get the same error.
My question is it possible to have two SQL Servers installed on my machine? If so, is it a good idea to have two DB servers in the same machine?

How they relate and differ from each? What are the best practices for version control? Is there a primer about publish online? Or a good book?
And is it possible to make ClickOnce and a msi in one solution of VS 2008? If so, is there any conflict or pitfall?
BTW I am using VB if that makes any difference.

I am using VB.NET 2008 Express Edition and INNO Setup. When I create a setup and run it, the resulting install is an older version of my project from, I think, 2 or 3 days ago. If I go back to my project in the developer window and run the project, it is clearly a newer version than the install. Since this installed version that comes up was done I have added a form and made many other changes. Is it because the build didn't exeucte? When you run the project doesn't it execute a build every time?I tried this again from a backup. (The backup is much more recent than the version I'm getting.) And it still does the same thing. Why does the install not match the project? It is not possible to go into the project and add the changes because they are already there.

confirm the forum for this question about Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I found a VWD Express forum, but it was in Spanish... Lo Siento. My issue is selecting a down-level, 3.5, framework version as I create a new project/website. I have figured out how to CHANGE the target framework version once the website/project is created. I have the 3.5x installed on the system and available. The articles I have seen discussing this issue, refer to a framework version selection drop list in the new project creation dialog/wizard. I do not have that option.

I've decided to go with a Windows Installer (Setup Project) in VS Prof, rather than ClickOnce,I've added this project to my main project, and have right clicked and selected 'View -> Launch Conditions', it requires the .netframework 3.5.21022...
But I've created the installer project for .NET 2.0 framework, is this going to stop someone from installing the project without .NET framework 3/3.5?EDIT: I've found under the properties of that installer project, that .NET framework 3.5 and Windows Installer 3.1 was selected as a prerequisite, unchecked those, and checked .NET Framework 2.0, however the version under the launch condition .NET Framework is still 3.5, it should be 2.0

What does this error mean in VB6? Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an Automation type not supported in Visual Basic.
I keep getting it when i call a particular method of a dll that comes with windows xp and beyond (in system32 called upnp.dll)
