View 6 RepliesEssentially my program asks the user for their name and a number, and it stores both values in a text file. However, when retrieving the code from a particular line it cannot separate the number from the person's name.will I have to use a new line for every entry, or is there some way to tell my program to differentiate between columns in the code?

View 2 Replieshow can i import text from text file to access so that:
Text sample:

I have a csv file with say 20 lines of 6 numbers. I need to be able to select say line 14 and then load the 6 numbers into a set of 6 text boxes. I can get them into the text boxes once they are loaded into an array, it's getting them into the array I am having difficulty with. I ahve tried numerous scripts form off these forums and the net but can't get one where I can specify which line the information comes from.
View 4 RepliesHow to change the font color of the column header text in my datagridview if the entire column is read-only. I basically use a loop to add columns to my datagridview and then set the properties of the columns. But for some reason setting the DefaultCellStyle.ForeColor and HeaderCell.Style.ForeColor properties does not work. The header text is still black.[code]...
View 3 RepliesHow do I open, edit, read excel columns in vb.net? Like, for example, I want to know the values of column B up to the cell that it contains values.
View 1 RepliesIs there a correct way of doing this in vb.net? I want to read a file as a set of numbers such as long integers ,say the file contains the string "Hello World - Its a beautiful day blah blah blah" This would read as a set of long integers that are 4 bytes long
ie ascii (hex)
48 65 6C 6C 6F 20 57 6F
H e l l o W o
etc and that would also be an 4 byte word represented as a number 1819043144 thus stepping through the file 4 bytes at a time. Instead of reading and looking for certain words in the file I would look for certain numbers, thus eliminating read errors in certain file types. I coded this type of thing in vb6 before , this would be done with the 'get' method and a file pointer. I have managed to read it a byte at a time with this code but I am unsure where to go with it as the 'get' method isn't in vb.net

Basically what I want to do is open a .txt file that contains numbers and then read the numbers into an array and sort them highest to lowest but I don't know how.

I've got a program which displays data in a listbox in five columns. All are separated using one or more ControlChars.Tab. I want to write these columns to a text file, however, when I do, my columns lose their alignment. I can change alignment so that it displays nicely in text file, but then it is off in list box. Is there a way to get what I see in my listbox to display the same way in a text file - maybe a different way of separating my columns (not using ControlChars.Tab)?
View 7 RepliesI'm using vb.net 1.1 to develop the program. I got text files that contain test result from a machine, like below.
T1 1.24535 2.56335 2.43253 1.24538 2.55619 4.35243
T2 1.42542 1.63728 3.57295 4.59275 1.57320 2.72057
T3 5.12857 2.45375 6.38593 2.58375 3.57259 3.57204
I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.

View 7 RepliesI am using visual basic 2008 and trying to create an application to plot data from text files. I have several data files of various sizes. They have an unknown number of rows and either 2 or 4 columns.I need to put the data into 2 dimensional array, so value(,) becomes either value(lines,3) or value(lines,1) depending on the number of columns. My program needs to be able to count how many columns there are, and redim value(,) appropriately.I have written a piece of code to count the number of lines (rows) in the file using 'While not (EOF(1)) ....' but I'm stuck on how to count the number of columns.I could ask the user to indicate how many columns there are before the file is read, but I would prefer the program to detect the number automatically.

I want the text box to read rich text into the textbox (C:\\stickynotes.rtf")
Then i have a command button underneath which i want to save the content of the rich text box to the rtf file (C:\\stickynotes.rtf). This is so that the user can edit and ammend information.
here is some code i have so far
Dim fileReader As System.IO.StreamReader
fileReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader("C:\\stickynotes.rtf")
