Selecting Information From Particular Column Based On Key (or Keyword) Provided By User

i m working on a project on vb.net with access database...and i need a code for separating the information from my complete package by following some kind of search,
1. for example if we type a word "publish" in a textbox and then click on a button...then it should display all the rows and columns containing the word "publish" in the grid view.
2.i also need a code for selecting the information from a particular column based on the key(or keyword) provided by the user
I want to build an application using VB, that is essentially an information system.The operation of this system would be as follows:1. User can select one of several buttons, each button being a different topic.2. When a button is selected, information about that topic appears on the right hand side of the form.3. The system allows information to be added by a user So, for example, if a user clicked on the button named 'Banana', information about the banana would appear on the form, where the user could read this info, scroll down etc.I would also like the user to be able to search a specific word like 'apple' and for information on the apple to appear.How could I implement this? I don't know how I would store paragraphs of information, and then search for it based on a keyword.
I'm currently writing a program that needs to open a file specified by the user, replace a certain string of text with a different string of text, and save it to the user-specified path. Here's what I have so far:

I am using an ACCESS DataBase to populate the array.
Using the For Next Loop I can access any position within the array such as a individual cell or group of cells. Also using the Step Keyword of the For next loop I can select a group of cells to manipulate based on the Step factor. This worked well for me in VB 6. I am now migrating to vb 2010 and cannot fine documentation as to how this would be done on zero based arrays in Vb 2010.
In VB 2010 I see no reference to the Step Keyword nor examples of how it would be used with zero based Arrays.

I am writing a code-generator that will need to output some miniscule portions of VB.NET code, and since this is a code generator that will add user-provider code, I'd like to try to avoid type name conflicts with types or names in the user-provided code.
In C#, I can prefix types with global:: to make sure they're matched from the global type namespace hierarchy, rather than some local name, but is there a similar system for VB.NET? ie. this: global::System.String

I have a text box where i am entering numbers of double datatype andon the Keytdown event of the textbox some checks take pace and in certain circumstances I want to be able to stop the user from entering other information until they enter the right information in the textbox (where it says right here) . now when I say exit sub the textbox somehow loses focus . but this is not how I want it to be I want the textbox to remain with the focus so the user can change the information . How can i go about this. And the other thing is why is my txtDestPayRate1.Focus() just befor the exit sub not working?

I have a table being imported into my VB application that has 3 columns. I have written code to import the table, and have written code to display on the first column (country) in a list view.What I want to do now is have the user select / highlight an item in the list view, and have the third column (currency) related to that selected country appear in a text box when a button is clicked.Here's the code I've written that successfully imports the data and displays the first column:

I've data of 40 temperature sensors in a data table. I want to extract particular column from SQL from this data table, usually for this to occur One can Say write "Select value FROM table" where value is the parameter, this is ok, but it returns a value in specific row(s) of specific column whereas i want opposite. I want to my query to select particular column as argumument. I have 40 Columns.
Like: SELECT S1 FROM Table, SELECT S2 FROM Table .... but this is too hectic to write it for 40-50 sensors. Is there any way that i can replace S1-S2 in above statement as argument and provide it on runtime to select particular column?
I have a data gridview on my windows form with 4 columns. Now I identify a column as followed:

So now I use a number ( In this case: 1 ) for the column index, but I want to make it a bit more readable so now I want to obtain the column index based on the datagridview column name.[code]...
I have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage.The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)
So, here goes nothing, this is the Query code I am using in PHP to complete the job I want to do in VB.NET. [code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. Once counted to be 1, the Activation Code and Status will be fed into 2 other text boxes in the form. (acCode, and acStatus).
Is there a way to make a column unselectable? I can make the column read-only but it would be easier if it was unselectable so the user won't be confused trying to enter data into a read only cell. So if I clicked on a cell in that column or moved into that cell in that column it would jump to the next column, or not focus on the cell at all.
I am using a Strongly Typed Dataset as DAL. I want to return a single column from my table for that i wrote the code as
SELECT DISTINCT Floor FROM Room WHERE (Building = @Building)
But when i previewed the data, it shows me all the columns of the table with Null Value and the column with primary key has -1 value. This condition raise an Exception when i link this query to a ComboBox ..
I have written an application that creates an mhtml file based on information in cache. The MHTML file can be opened in Opera but not Internet explorer. I have attatched an example of an MHTML file(saved as .txt) i have created. Does anybody know what im missing? Why wont it open in IE?
I have an application I am creating that displays pump information based on customers in a database. I am using VB2008 .NET3.5.I have a combobox that has a selection for a unit of measure. What I want to happen is when that is changes the labels that have a unit of measure change to reflect the change. There are 15 labels total that need to be changed and all there names are the only ones in the project that start with a X if that helps at all.
I would like to avoid creating a bunch of labels and changing the visible property and just change the text value of each one. I have just started learning VB.NET
i have a check list box. i want the user to limit, selecting maximum of three items from the checklistbox. if user select more than that i want a msgbox to prompt.
Is there a way to prevent a user from entering data into a ComboBox, rather then selecting, or can anyone suggest a routine to catch and prevent entries so the user can be made aware the they are not acceptable?

I want to put a persons National Insurance Number into a label but I want to put *** in place of the first 5 characters and then display the last 3 characters as normally.
I have a TreeView that I am using for display purposes only. I don't want the user to be able to select any of the nodes. Setting the enabled property of the form to False doesn't suffice since it changes the entire look of the nodes.
I tried canceling the select action in the BeforeExpand event. It kind of works. It selects, then de-selects the item. I'm going to play around with other events to see
i have a datagridview with three columns. i set the first column to visible=false, so the user can only see two columns.when the user presses the tab key in the first visible column -- column(1), i want to ignore column(2) so that the user only tabs through the rows in column(1)i can't get it to work. it will always tabs through the rows in column(2) even if i use the column name.
