this inserted data to database when programs is running but if i close the program and start again previous data i have inserted are lost ....why ?
I am working on an application which involves serial port communication with stepper motors. Now I am sending queries to the PLC via modbus protocol. There is one query in which I ask the PLC for the current position of the moving motor and display it in a current position textbox using a DO Loop. Here the problem is the textbox only displays the position at the end of the motor movement and not while the motor in movies though I have included the code to do so inside the DO loop. So pls anyone who has the solution for this or any other alternative to perform this type of dynamic data display updation then pls reply.
View 1 Repliesim using VS2005. and the built-in sql express.when i run my code in debug mode, i can see that the required number of rows are being affected correctly.but when i actually go and see in the table data, the data has not been inserted/updated.i am using sqlcommand. executeNonQuery() to insert/update data.also, i must add that both executeScalar and executeReader are working perfectly.what could be the possible reason for executeNonQuery although showing the number of rows affected but does not actually do it when seen in the table data?int x = cmd.ExecuteScalar(); // X SHOWS 2 OR 3 depending on the number of rows affected.

Now I have a Date and Amount field in the form and I have both the columns present in the TransferMoney table. The user will first select the BankName and AccountNo. from their dropdown list,then enter an amount in the Amount field and ontransfer button click the money will be transfered from the FROM part to the TO part and the BankAccount table will get updated by the current balance of both the FROM and TO part and the Transfer money table containing the Amount and Date column will also get updated by the Amount transferred and the date in which the money is transferred.

The project in debug mode works fine, but accessing the site from a client computer, I am getting permission denied message to the file I'm trying to import and it is located on the server. View 1 RepliesI have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
I have to write a code in vb.net (2010).To get a data from Database A table 1 and dump it to Database B Table 2.What's the best way to do this? Most efficient way? I know I can do this very easily in sql management studio but I need to write a code to do this in vb.net.

'm just a beginner who want to learn on manipulating SQL Server data using vb.net. I have already experienced manipulating data in ms access. So I just recycled the code that I used in here. But unfortunately I got this error:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.And another problem is that, I'm not really sure if what I have inputted in the SqlConnection matches what is in SQL Server. It works fine only when there are numeric values in the column. But in this column are stored variable characters values and this types of values are not being displayed on the page. I don't know what is the reason.I've tried to use getValue.ToString instead of getString but it doesn't work either.

I need to copy data from one database to another using a VB.NET program. The target database is SQL Server the source database is some proprietary ODBC compliant database.
I need to loop through a list of table to copy. Read the data from the source database table for a given modified date. Delete the corresponding date from the target database table and insert the records from the source table. The databases are of the same structure i.e. table names and field names, but the data types may differ (however they are compliant e.g. double in source, float in target). No primary keys exist.
Heres how I may do it :
Firstly execute a Delete command to the target. I could then use a DataReader to obtain data from the source, loop through the Items and create an Insert Command for each row. Add Parameters to the Command with the appropriate values and execute. And wrap the whole thing in a Transaction.
I have Visual Basic 2010 Express and SQL Server 2008 R2 (not Express) installed on my Windows 7 machine. In Visual Studio, I am attempting to create a Data Connection to a database in SQL server. Server Mgmt Studio is not running. When I attempt to add a connection in Database Explorer, to the AdventureWorks _Data database, I get the message "This file is in use. Enter an new name or close the file that's open in another program." There are no programs running except VB, except maybe for the SQL Server engine running the background.Please note that I can open and access tables within a database in code

I have a code that binds the data from the database to textboxes. The problem is I want to make one of the textboxes Payment use a dollar sign.I tried formatting it as shown in the code below but only the first record gets formatted, the rest do not. When I click the next button, the dollar sign disappeared.
Here is a portion of the code:
