I've done much research in how to turn off visual styles for a custom drawn control, and coming only close on how to do this.
The problem I am seeing is that Application.EnableVisualStyles affects a boolean which tells the control how it should paint itself. I don't have a problem with styles being enabled, but rather getting a button to be drawn without using the visual styles rendering function.
Public Class LookupButton
Inherits Button
#Region "Disable Themes"
[Code]....
Method 2 simply does not do anything, nor would I want to use it, since it calls unmanaged code.
Method 1 does the right thing for the button, disabling the theme, but of course it does way more than that causing the entire window/app to blink with/without visual styles. And even if this did work, I wouldn't use it because it effects the entire application.
We need visual styles enabled on progress bars, since marquee will be used on a few database calls.
The button has an image ontop of it which gets cut off by the visual styles rounded corners. And there are a few more controls which would be benificial to turn off visual styles as well.
If there is anyway to manipulate the ButtonRenderer so it does not render using visual styles, this is the solution I am looking for. Having no styling for any buttons is preferable.
This is for a project I am working on for my company. We have Visual Studio 2005 .NET Team Edition (per customer request), and are gold certified (which I don't want to give up community support/supporting the community, but is there any programming forums for us where our answers could be answered before 24 hours and/or the questions goes into consideration when microsoft develops tool?).
To me it seems silly to have Visual Styles enable-able for the whole application, when dealing with the windows api, individual windows/controls can easily be themed or unthemed.
I know how to turn a control's visible property to true or false, the only thing I don't know is: If I have, for instance, 40 group boxes in which only one is visible, when I click on a button, the first group box visible = false and the second group box visible = true, and when I click on it again, the second group box visible = false and the third group box visible = true, and so on I don't want to write the codes for every controls, since it will be quite time consuming, I want to use fewer codes to achieve this objective,
View 10 RepliesRight now I can add background music in my program by using this code
My.Computer.Audio.Play(My.Resources.Music_3, AudioPlayMode.Background)
I can also turn it off and change the music by using this code
My.Computer.Audio.Stop()
My.Computer.Audio.Play(My.Resources.Another_Music, AudioPlayMode.BackgroundLoop)
Is it possible to pause the music then if I resume the music it will just continue the flow? I mean if I pause the background music in 33 seconds and the music has 50 seconds and I resume it will just continue playing in 33,34,35 etc.. seconds?
I was wondering if their was a way to for me to turn off events and then turn them back on in my program or just queue them up until i am ready for them to be excuted. Kinda like how a OS turns on and off interupts. Is this one of those general programming no-nos?
View 1 RepliesI have a grid view with a nested text box in it. I would like to turn view state off but the fact of the matter is when data is posted, the text boxes inside the gridview aren't available (there are no rows in the gridview on postback)I am using ASP.NET 2.0 so would this fall into control state, not view state?
Sample ASPX code of the gridview:

Control's information is not stored in the View State (for things like selected value and .text etc.)Control state, introduced in ASP.NET version 2.0, is similar to view state but functionally independent of view state. A page developer can disable view state for the page or for an individual control for performance. However, control state cannot be disabled. Control state is designed for storing a control's essential data (such as a pager control's page number) that must be available on postback to enable the control to function even when view state has been disabled.[URL]..

View 1 RepliesI created Dataentry forms. In the form there are so many controls like DropDowns and textboxes. I am using Access database. Now I enterd the few records into the controls, and these records are saved into the Database. But now if i enter the any data which i recently saved in the database to the textbox or any other control then the remaining controls should be display the related data.
For example i have 4 controls in my form one is dropdown and 3 are textboxes. If i select the data in the dropdown then the remaining 3 textboxes shows the related data. How can i dispaly the corresponding data to the other controls?

Is it possible to use a variable as part of a control name kinda like you would use a variable in a SQL statement. For example:
Lets say we have 4 text boxes txtP1Val, txtP2Val, txtP3Val and txtP4Val. Is it possible to have the P1 - 4 as a variable so it would be "txt + Some string variable + Val"

I'm working on a function that handles events from a number of buttons and trying to define a Select...Case based on the clicked button. Something like this...
Private Sub btnClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
Handles btnThis.Click, _
btnThat.Click, _
[Code]....
which don't work either. Is there any way I can define a Select...Case in this manner or is it always destined to fail due to the attempt at comparison of reference types?
i have few cotrols on form (text box, combo box, checkbox etc). Thru some condition i stored the name of the control in a variable.
for example
dim cntrlname as string
if x=1 then
cntrlname = 'txtCode'
[code]....
at some other place on form i want to use above variable to give the focus to control.
Basically, I have a large number of text boxes. Within these text boxes, I'll be doing calculations based on user input and other things. These boxes will be grouped by numbers, eg Cost1, Profit1, Stock1... Cost26, Profit26, Stock26. Without too much explanation, I went to write a FOR loop to perform a repetitive calculation across multiple groups, and the following line came up.
FOR num = 1 TO 26
Cost(num).text = ItemCost
What I've tried to do is use a variable to decide which 'Cost' textbox, from the available 26, to use in the calculation. For whatever reason, it won't work. I would like to be able to use a variable to specify exactly which textboxes I want used, so that on the 3rd pass of the loop, the 3rd box is used, and on the 19th pass, the 19th box is used. Otherwise, I'd just have to do each calculation separately, and write the same thing 26 times, with slightly different numbers.
The basic question is can I assign a variable to represent a control? As an example which of 12 tickBoxes have been ticked. Is this possible with a for next loop?
View 5 RepliesI have many textboxes that I need to reference dymanically. The controls themselves aren't dynamic, just the way I need to reference them.I've got several text boxes say:
txtMe1
txtMe2
txtMe3
...
txtMe100
I will need to randomly change one of the properties of the edit boxes. So lets say it picks a random number between 1-100 which is 56. So, I would want to change the background of my 56th edit box to:
txtMe56.Backcolour = Color.Gray
The only way I could think of doing this would be to have one giant select case statement to evaluate the random number. But, that is really dirty and not the best peformance wise (this could potentially get called hundreds of times) so was wondering what my options are?I tried to concatenate the random number to my generic control name 'txtMe' but it throws a wobbler. I essentially would want the following to worK:
dim iNum as integer = 56
txtMe & iNum & .Backcolour = Color.Gray
If I have a TextBox control with the Name Property = Textbox1, is there a way to use a variable for part of the name - like this:

View 5 RepliesI have a number of tabpages that each contain a datagridview control only. Based on the results of a SQL statement I then loop through each tabpage and set its name. The reason for this is that at runtime (and depending on the results of the SQL statement), the contents of each tab page will change - henceI loop through the tabpages and set the name/ text (to reflect what will later be shown in the DataGridView)
The datagridview control on each tab has the default name e.g. DataGridView1, DataGridView2, DataGridView3 so it's easy for me to loop through them e.g.:
for i as integer = 1 to 3

I've found various C# examples here, but I can't seem to get a VB version working.I want to be able to pass a simple variable into a User Control to determine whether it shows a certain section of data.It's basically a Customer Data form, and in some circumstances I need to show a line with the customers account number and sort code, and in some I don't, so my user control:
<controls:customerForm ID='customerForm' showBankDetails="no" runat='server' />
But I can't work out what to do with the showBankDetails variable in Code Behind to stop it from rendering that section, or simply hide it with a CSS snippet.How do I access that variable in the code behind using VB.NET?
