I wanted a Message Box to appear when a file can't be found, for example. I made a Combo Box (ComboBox1) and a button, this is what the code was:[code]If a file can't be found, I want a message box to appear, not an Error Provider, I tried this code, but it did not work:[code]
I created a simple program which basically launches programs installed on 32-bit system in the C:Program Files directory. I purposely put an .exe line of code in the compiler but that .exe wasn't installed on the system, I was expecting for an error when I tried to click the launch button and I did. NOTE: I already have a beginning If statement and that program is actually installed in the system, works perfectly no errors appearing.
ElseIf lstMultimedia.SelectedItem = "HyperCam" Then Process.Start("C:Program FilesHyperCam 2HyCam2.exe") 'this program doesn't exist in the system"
When the error appeared I looked at it in detail and found it was a system.componentmodel.win32exception type of error, I'm guessing that means a file doesn't exist in the directory I specified therefore the program displays an error. Now what I want to do is display a message box saying along the lines "This program cannot be found in your system" or something like that. But I don't know what the actual syntax/code for it, so far from thinking I have this.
Else : lstMultimedia.SelectedItem = 'no idea what to put here Then MessageBox.Show("This application cannot be found in your system or is installed in a different directory", "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error) End If
I have to build an application using it in order to communicate with some software. Basically, I need to be able to call this exe and have it run to perform some tasks, then close itself down.I have the tasks running on page load but since I don't want the application to actually open, I use a Me.Close() to close it once it's finished the tasks. So, the whole thing works great (the tasks are even performed) except the Me.Close() causes a message to come up saying the application "has stopped working." Is it because I'm trying to close it while it's loading itself?I am forced to perform these tasks in VB, so please don't just say I should not be using VB.NET for this.
I have a VB6 DLL that wraps a call to a 3rd party component. When I call my DLL from VB6, everything works fine, but when I call it from vb.net (2.0 framework targeted - VS2010) I get this error:
AccessViolationException occurred
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. This error only occurs on Windows 7 (Windows XP clients work fine).I've looked this up and all the articles I found talked about the declaration not being correct.I am not declaring any APIs calls though, the 3rd party component is early bound in my VB6 DLL.I can run the DLL, set a breakpoint, and it goes into my VB6 function, but errors calling a function in the 3rd party component. My VB6 DLL takes 3 string and one 32bit numeric (long in VB6) parameters. The 3rd party's DLL function that I am calling is taking a string (bstrDNSID as string is what Intellisense shows in VB6). This is where it errors.
Update: None of the marshalling has helped, so I tried creating a test sub in my VB6 DLL. I hardcoded all the values within the DLL's test sub. It works fine when called from VB6, but gives the same error as above when running from .NET. Also of interest, when I have the VB6 DLL running from the VB6 IDE, I do not get the error when calling the DLL from .NET.
I have an error appearing in my webbrowser, and as there doesn't seem to be a solution to stopping it, i'm attempting to just detect when it occurs, and use sendkeys to press enter.[code]..
I'm trying to convert a batch of .pngs to .jpgs, as in this question:
[Code]....
The call to jpg.Save, however, with a "generic error" in GDI+. Originally outside of the innermost Using statement, I moved the call inwards as per this answer, but it didn't change anything. I have verified that newfile contains a valid path, and that the program has write access to the directory. What am I missing?
My asp.net website logs errors when they occur, but only sometimes shows the line of code where it occurred. Is there a way to find out what line of code my error is occuring on when the line is not provided? My Global.asax logs the error with the following code:
Sub Application_Error(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) 'Get MemberNumber Dim MemberNumber As String
[code]....
It looks like the checkbox labeled "ckAdmin" is causing this error, but I do not know how to trace it. How should I go about tracing down this error or finding the line of the code this error occurs in?
I am having an issues with my code causing my forum to close after an error occurs during a SaveFileDialog. My problem is if the form closes after an error occurs that doesn't save the file, the person would lose their text they made. If there a way I can embed the code in an If statement or Try catch so it only closes if the file was saved? Here is my
I am currently using Snarl to generate notifications whenever an event / error occurs in my program. How would I go about coding a native VB notification instead of using a 3rd party program?
if the rows CurTXId is 0 then I insert new records. and then call AcceptChanges on the PeopleTable.now if I have an error, for example conversion from null to Decimal causes an error and the first insert occurs before the error. now i have a row inserted but AcceptChanges hasn't been called yet.then i click save again and the insert happens again since the rowstate hasn't changed.how should I handle this?[code]
As part of a review of my program on Softpedia, the Reviewer stated the following: If you call on a piece of software and it is not installed on your computer the application will pop up a nasty error message that may discourage beginners. Popping a dialog saying the reason of the error or that the software is not installed on the system would be a great fix.
I am updating a legacy application, and it was reading a dll from another project for a Dictionary(of Guid, String) of items and using them.
The requirements have changed, and the method that was returning the Dictionary is now returning an IList.
This is the odd behavior of this; the intellisense is not throwing a cast error, nor is the compiler. It does not throw an error until runtime when it tries to set the Dictionary to the IList.
Example:
Dim someDictionary As Dictionary(Of Integer, String) = New Dictionary(Of Integer, String) Dim someList As IList(Of Integer) someDictionary = someList
Below, why doesn't Throw maintain my originating line number? If I run the DerivedPage, my log file lists the error as line 7. Shouldn't it say line 4? It would make sense if I had Throw ex, but I don't. Isn't Throw by itself just supposed to rethrow and bubble up the error? If I remove the Try...Catch block entirely in DerivedPage, then my log file correctly lists 3 as the error line, but I am not able to log any info in case of an error. What can I do to maintain my DerivedPage, and still have my log keep the correct line number?
Public Class DerivedPage Inherits BasePage Page_Load(o,e) Try

Base page:
Public Class BasePage Protected Overrides Sub OnError(e) MyBase.OnError(e)

Log.Error does output the InnerException if it exists. It does in this case. However, the stack trace for the InnerException doesn't contain a line number, just the Exception details.
So, concering my project: I am trying to control an RC Car via Kinect, until now I got it working with key control only (eg WASD). So, I am using a Velleman K8055 Interface Board + the Kinect and VB Windows Forms. So far, so good, I created 4 Forms: menu, info, kinect-controls + wasdcontrols window. The error only occurs for my kinect-controls window (german name: Steuerung.vb) & that's my source
I have an application where I make calls to multiple SQL Server Stored Procedures, keep the user aware that the program is still running and how long the specific SP has been running so that they can abort it if it's taking too long.
My initial attempt was to wrap up each call to the SPs like this example:
Dim cm As SqlCommand = Nothing Dim Conn As SqlConnection = Nothing Dim Tran As SqlTransaction = Nothing Dim PrevTime As Date = Nothing
I want to check if an IP address can be resolved to a hostname.I figured I would use System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry as System.Net.Dns. GetHostByAddress is shown as obsolete in VS2008.
However,if I specify an invalid IP address to System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry the HostName property equals the IP address I gave. If I use System.Net.Dns.GetHostByAddress it, rightly, gives a resolution error.I don't mind continuing to use System.Net.Dns. GetHostByAddress but is there any way to have System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry throw an error if the IP address cannot be resolved to a hostname (other than by checking if the IP address given equals the hostname returned, I mean)
I have a table adaptor that pulls from the sql database, when I edit the table adaptor query it makes this specific table adaptor not a part of the dataset. I have added a column to my database which will contain an integer, when I try to add this column to the query this error occurs, i am using the configure area of the table adaptor. Error 'AuditProductsTableAdapter' is not a member of 'MemKingClient.MemKingDataSetTableAdapters.TableAdapterManager'.
how to create an error message by message box to tell the user to enter a number only if they key in a character value?
I MEAN AFTER THEY PRESS THE CALCULATE BUTTON
Private Sub btnCalcFat_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalcFat.Click Dim intFat As Integer intFat = Integer.Parse(txtFat.Text) lblResultDisplay.Text = txtFat.Text * 9 End Sub
I am getting the below error when I click a row in the grid. But this error is raised only in exe, which is installed in client machine, but when I check the same from source code in my machine, i am not getting this error. I am able to locate the record.
So i've been working on a page for a project where the person logs into a login page and then can see a list from the database of employees. everything is working except for one problem. If someone puts in a username and password, username= a and password=b, for example it still allows that individual to view the next page and doesn't throw the error that i have enbedded on the login page to say sorry you have the incorrect password/username. The working code that i have so far is below:
what is wrong with my code and I get no feedback from my button click event, i have imported. ( code Below) and i have tied differrent combinations of the code without sucess.maybe add extra to my code for the list to show open Port or closed ports.
I have a windows service I created that checks for data to post to an off site webservice over SSL. The service checks every 10 seconds for data to send, if there is data it opens a connection to the remote webservice, and closes the connection after 120 seconds (still checking for data to send during this time). The service works fine if a user is RDP'd into the server, but as soon as no one is logged on and the service attempts to push data, I receive the following error:"The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send."I have tried running the service as a local service, network service, under my login, and under a service account, but nothing seems to work. The PC it is running on is a windows 2003 server (virtualized - vmware)

I am getting error in the following line of frmContacts.frm. The module code is quite right. I have mentioned the module code here just to give an exact idea .The error line is: .Connection = MyConnection (Wherever it is in the frmContacts.frm)The error read as : Name "Myconnection" is not declared.
I am facing another error "An error occurred trying to load the page. Member not found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020003 (DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND) )" performing the following scenario:- Opened a sample VS 2010 WPF project that I receiveved from a co-worker (Project compiles, and run on his machine)I tried to open project properties (Project --> Properties)The project properties panel/window didn't open, all it had was an error symbol (red/white X) and the error message above(HRESULT: 0x80020003).I am unable to view niether the designer window nor the code window (no messages are reported) but the pane where the code/design shoud display is empty, all you can see is the background color.
I know it's possible in asp.net to create a custom error page in a web app, by putting the following line in the web.config: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="frmErrorPage.aspx" />
I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.
Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?
I dragged and dropped a label control on my web form. But then whe I go to my VB .net code behind file, if I try and set a property on that label control, I am getting a "Declaration Expected" error message for the label I created.Yet if I do try and explicitly declare my label control, the compiler tells me that the label control is already declared.[code]
