what methods use to update the main exe and related files in the app dir?
im using a seperate exe which runs with admin priviledge which downloads and replaces files as necessary.
my app downloads a text file and checks the version in that. if newer than settings.version then it runs the updator.exe and then closes.
the file downloaded also contains links to all new updates. the updator reads from this file then downloads as neccessary. then deletes the file and closes

I am using vs2005 with access db. I am retrieving a tables data thru datagridview using an access query. The table i am calling is contains "ID" of something and I convert it thru the query and show it as names for the sake of my users.
My problem is how to store again the related "ID" s after they alter the datagridview cells? (i.e:the retrieved table contains only id's of customers and i showned the users as names, after they are editing how can i convert the user name as "ID" because the field is Long Integer foreign key field) Or otherwise how can i show the datagridview partuclar cell value as combobox style?

i have problem here regarding update data when i checked value in checklistbox control.no problem when i want to insert data for the first time, but got problem when i want to update it where the previous data that i checked is still available, plus the latest data i checked. Thats means I got multiple data in my database.
example:
cat
lion
mouse
previous( cat) > i checked cat only
latest in my database, i got (cat,cat, mouse) when i checked mouse and cat.

Using a datagrid, binding to one table, and related to one combobos, I cant update records, cause gives me a violation error. I'm not changing the primary key, so, I dont undersatnd cause this happen. I prepair a example of this error, and it was attached to this message.

Developing an installer for an application, that runs based on parameters set in an XML file.
The initial install of the XML is in a template style (generic time for running app, generic settings), but via the Forms, I want to be able to have the user modify some of those parameters -say choosing time for the app to run- and then have the form write (Replace really) that data in the XML file.
Looking for some ideas as to how to approach this, as soon as I can catch on I will be able to do the rest on my own.

I want to launch a bunch of threads, each performing the same task, and know in main() when each finishs and it if it was successful or failed.The solution offered was to use a ConcurrentQueue, but other posts have recommended using a BackgroundWorker Class, or a thread pool.Is there a definitive answer?Again, all threads perform the same code and have a pass/fail result. I want to run more than there are available threads so as soon as one thread finishes I will launch another asap - I want tehm to stress a remote systems as much as possible (reather than stressing my local PC with too many threads, so I will need to experiment to determine the optimal number of threads).

I have a program that creates excel and word documents from another main Excel workbook. Essentially it opens excel checks data, posts data to appropriate forms. It then saves them as (number from main excel) & date/time stamp and corresponding extension. I want to be able to list the created documents according to the number from the main excel workbook.

I made a Class Library project that contains the main classes that my Main Project needs because I don't want to main classes when I distribute my project. I've successfully called and used it in my Main Project. But when I started debugging and stepping through my code which involves calling and using the class I wrote in my Class Library, I noticed that the class' file in my Class Library opens up during debug mode.
how can I prevent the Class Library's files from being opened during my Main Project's debug mode?

I have a main form with datagridview containing a list of contacts:

After saving, I get the correct message ("Saved"), and the DataGridView in the first form gets updated in real time.
But... when I take look at the data (or close and reopen the forms) the data in the database (SQL server) have not changed! What happens!

My app works fine on the development machine and 3 other machines. However, some machines just show the main login box and then fail to show the main screen. There is no error message. I installed VS 2008 express on on of such machines and when i compile the project, the following errors appear:

Have a small application (forms) that I want the clients to be able to update.I am using one location on the server to store updates, and one for the original installer zip. Could this be a problem, in that both need to be in the same place?The app is in its infant stage at the moment, but I'd like to get it to update from day one.Which files do I need to put on the server in order for the app to update. i have a project that requires me to make a unit converter. the units should be defined within the program. i have reached a point where i save the defined units in a text file for a simple example converting meters to kilometers where it gets divided by 1000 i made the program to save the a string in a text file to represent that as:
meter,kilometer,0.001
which means it gets multiplied by 0.001 anyway the problem that i'm facing that when i want so save another units in the same file the previous units gets deleted. how to make the program update the text file that it adds the new defined units in the same file but before that it looks in the test file if the unit is already exists and if it does it will replace it with the new value
is it possible to read a string just before the second comer? foe example if the string in a file is: meter,kilometer,0.001 it will read it as: meter,kilometer and is it possible just to read the last value? 0.001

I use text files to hold the program data, which is loaded in to variables when the program starts. I use StreamWriter to write to the text files when they update within the program. This is fine although the writer adds a extra line when I do not want this, which causes the program to error on the next use.

I have two, soon to be many spreadsheet files. There are cell references between the files which need to be updated. I would write this in a excel macro but these spreadsheets are design tables for Solidworks, a CAD system and it does not allow macro enabled workbooks. So what I would like to do is push a button and open all of the spreadsheets, accept the update workbook prompt then save and close the files.
I've seen a similar command developed by someone using the Soildworks API but updating design tables in solidworks takes ALOT of time to run compared to just opening and closing spreadsheets.I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 along with Excel 2010 Beta 2 (I like to have the new things)

im having a problem with replacing some files in a folder, i have made a Auto Upater for a application im making (so beta testers can test it and also get updated stuff to test) now i can replace the Main application.exe with

This is after i have unziped the main update.zip folder it downloaded
but i also have a Data folder in the Main application folder and inside the new update\Data folder its has updated files now i cant list all files to replace like above as i want be replacing all files all the time, so im looking for something like you have on windows (would you like to replace files) without the prompt its just replaces them, so really im looking for a move and replace without prompting
i have tryed
Directory.Move(Application.StartupPath + "\update\Data", Application.StartupPath + "\Data")
and
Directory.Move(Application.StartupPath + "\update\Data\", Application.StartupPath + "\Data\")
but it errors saying the folder exists and i cant delete the folder as it will have files in that DONT need updating

I need to develop a service and install it into a w2003 box to read excel files a then process its info. The process is as follows, users will upload excel files using FTP and then my service must take those files, validate and then update a SQL Server DB.
The application runs fine on my computer but on the server it asks for the libraries but when I try to install the MS office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies, system displays "Please install Microsoft Office 2003 before installing the product".
I'd prefer to stay away of any server upgrade as we should require OKs, etc.. so, is there a simple way to just read excel files without having to install any update in the server.

I however I'm encountering a quite strange problem. On some configurations, IO.File.SetLastWriteTimeUtc triggers an UnauthorizedAccess error, although the IO.File.Copy instruction worked very well.

I have a solution with more than one project and the main project contains buttons to open forms from different projects that are in the same solution. Say Project1 is the main project and Project2 is the different project that gives the following error when i compile it:

Currently working on a project to automate the input based on the Summary file (xls format)
1. I want to be able to do the following: update, append, delete and populate the records to the various files based on two distinct fields, column A & F (see attached file).
2. Researched the process, requires knowing VB codes, are you familiar with this language? If so, how can I simplify the process? Please advise.

Is there a way to maintain application modified Settings in the settings files after a program update? i.e. I have 10 or so values in the settings file and the users can modify them... when I send a program update they revert back to what I initially programmed them to be.

Now, I have checkBox and drop-down inside the gridView, When user selects some rows from checkboxes and clicks on Update Button, Page_Load event fires and calls BindGrid(); method and selected rows should get hidden. How can I retain checkbox values after the page load event.
