i've created a usercontrol in a win forms project + the properties work as expected, but when i recreated my usercontrol as a win forms usercontrol class library, the properties changed at runtime aren't persistent.i tried adding a DesignerSerializationVisibility attribute to the property but that didn't work.
I have a Windows Form frmMain() holding seven more-or-less unrelated UserControls, ucFlopsy", "ucMopsy", "ucCottontail", etc...I say "more-or-less" because each of the seven UC has three similar public read/write properties:
IsLocked (a boolean indicating if the following two properties are "Locked") IsLockedID (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedID is an integer) IsLockedName (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedName is a string)
I have a usercontrol that has a main form and calls another form within the usercontrol to get some data from a database that allows the user to select some items from a CheckedListBox control on the sub form. I want to pass the selected items from the CheckedListBox back to the main form and display the results there. I have a public property called DBList of type List(of String) on the main user control. If I create a reference to the usercontrol form the second form within the usercontrol I get a new instance of a user control. All I want to do is set the property on the usercontrol and close the secondary form. How do I reference the usercontrol from the form within the usercontrol?
Code in UserControl:
Public Property DBItems() As List(Of String) Get Return DBItems
I am trying to develop a control that'll allow the developer to populate a collection through markup (e.g. Properties decorated with the attribute PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty). I have an example from Brian Chavez that more or less does what I want but I want to have the control inherit from UserControl and not Control. Here is the code I have in vb.net:
AggregateFeeds.ascx.vb Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic <ParseChildren(True)> <PersistChildren(False)> Public Class AggregateFeeds
[Code]...
As it is now when I try to compile I get a compiler error that simply says object instance not set to an instance of an object on the line above. If I take it out, the page loads just fine and the Settings object reflects the values in the markup. Why am I having trouble getting the collection to populate correctly?
I'm trying to create a UserControl in ASP.NET to display news items based on two values that are passed in, NewsTag and ItemLimit. The problem is that the SQLdatasource is not picking up the properties in SqlDataSource1_Init. Instead the calls to the properties are empty when this is called but after render have values.
<script runat="server"> Public Property NewsTag() As String Get
I must have done something really, really dumb somewhere, but I don't know if I did a really, really dumb VB.Net thing or a really, really dumb Framework thing.I have a dirt simple UserControl - it consists of one Button. Nothing more.
Is there any simple way to hide all the design time properties of a User Control.
When my UC is on a form there's a lot of properties in the properties explorer. All those default ones that every UC has. AccessibleName, AccessibleRole, Anchor etc etc etc (dozens of the them)
Any way to hide most/all those and just expose my own ?
I suppose I want my User Control to be more like a 'Component' like the Timer and other components that don't have a UI. Short of rewriting my UC as a Component is there any quick way to hide all those form properties ?
I can create a Custom UserControl with simple properties (Integer, String, etc) and have those properties show up in the Property Panel. I can also create a Custom UserControl with properties like Size, Rectangle, etc and the properties will show up as an expandable item in the Property Panel (click on the '+' and the Size expands to Width & Height).
Is it possible to create properties with my own custom structure? e.g. Property 'Message' expands to Text, ForeColor, BackColor, Blink etc. I have tried creating a property that references a simple class or structure with containing the properties representing my custom structure but in the Property Panel the property is greyed out and cannot be expanded or modified.
limit the default events, properties and methods exposed from a UserControl so it only displays to the developer the new events etc that I code myself. What i mean is I have created a UserControl with a panel and 5 buttons, written 1 Public Eventonly at this stage, I have placed an instance of the control on a form in a new project, but in the drop down menu that comes up after say (myUserControl1.), there is a massive list of options, I don't want those to appear.
I have MainLayout.master that has UC_Menu.ascx on it. I have a page named Customer.aspx that uses MainLayout.master. Customer.aspx also contains a UserControl named UC_Details.ascx.How can I have UC_Menu.ascx call a function that is in UC_Details.ascx with this scenario?
I have a converted VB6 App that would draw irregular shapes on a PictureBox when I click on a button, and these irregular shapes would persist until I either close the App or erased the PictureBox to start the display anew.I converted my App to VB.Net to do the same, i.e. draw on a PictureBox again, but the drawn lines appear briefly and then, at the end of the drawing process, when my App returns control to the Operating System in wait for another event, the graphics disappear as if erased by the App (which I don't do of course).I have created a Graphics Object associated to my Picture Box as:
Dim CurrGraphics as System.Drawing.Graphics CurrGraphics = PictureOut.CreateGraphics
I then use the DrawPolygon and DrawLine methods to add the irregular shapes I want:
where CurrPen is a defined Pen, and Pts is the Points() array with the coordinates of the displayed shape. Several dozens irregular shapes are drawn and then the subroutine stops, and returns to waiting for another request from the user. What could be the prime reason why graphics do not persist in a PictureBox, and are erased immediately after they are created ?
PS: I do not use the PainEvent of the PictureBox PictureOut, as in the example given in the VB documentation (below), as the display process is initiated by clicking on a button, and I cannot relate how to transfer control to the PaintEvent as below:
Private Sub Form1_Paint(sender As Object, pe As PaintEventArgs) Handles _ MyBase.Paint ' Declares the Graphics object and sets it to the Graphics object
I am building a program which offers solutions to the travelling salesman problem (finding shortest tour between a set of cities while visiting each only once).
My program loads a bitmap image of a map into a picture box. From there, graphics which point out the cities as well as tour paths are drawn onto the map. My problem is that when the option to plot ALL cities is enacted, the user may choose to pinpoint a specific city with a separate control. When the user erases that pinpoint via an invalidation routine, though, it erases all graphics beneath it, which is undesirable. How can I make my tour graphics and city plots semi-permanent by drawing them directly on the image? I tried drawing them on a separate bitmap, but it 'covered up' the map image.
I have an application that has two states based on the value of a Boolean variable: a read_only=true state and read_only=false state. The value of this state is stored in an external settings file. My application has a feature called deploy that generates a copy of itself in the same folder with the read_only=true state. But, the read_only variable value is stored in an external file so now both files will be in the read_only=true state. What I want to do is make one of them(the original one) always be read_only = false and the other read_only=true
I was wondering if it is possible to have persistent changes to resources in an executable. I am using VB 2010. I don't know how to be much clearer than that but I will try.
> User opens program and picks 'File A'
> 'File A' is now copied into the executable, thus storing it forever (or until deletion of .exe
> .exe is now slightly larger because 'File A' is inside the program
point me to the best way to store persistant objects ( of my own class) in a vb application? I am putting together a simple family recipe application and have created a food item class. I would like to store the instances ( food items) indefinately so that they are there each time I start the program complete with all properties and meethods
You know how using My.Settings.something to store persistent data is done only for user settings and not application settings. This information is stored in the registry on the local user section. My problem here is that even if it is in the same machine, when a user changes some setting it is not reflected on other users. This is desirable for some of them but there are a few I would like to keep for all users. Is there a way to do it with the settings? Do I need to write to the registry in the machine section? or do you just recomend I create a configuration file?
here is what i want to do have a ToolStripMenuItem in a ToolStripDropDownButton menu what i want to do is have an option to not hide the menu when the ToolStripMenuItem is clicked so i wrote the following:
I am very New to Vb.net. We are using fortify software for projects when it is going to LIVE. In that process I got some cross-Site Scripting : persistent Data flow issues.
I'm trying to create a version of the game Spill and Spell. I'm having problems with a click event for Labels that is supposed to exchange the .Text value stored from the previous mouse click with the current .Text value on the new Label clicked. The labels are initialized and stored in an array on the form load.
What's happening is that the values are remaining persistent to the label being clicked.
Desired Results (example):
User clicks on lblDice1 (sender), tempLetter is set to mouseLetter.CurrentLetter, mouseLetter.CurrentLetter is set to lblDice1.Text (sender.text), lblDice1.Text is set to tempLetter. (this part works)
User clicks on lblDice2 (sender), tempLetter is set to mouseLetter.CurrentLetter (s/b initial .Text value from lblDice1 above), mouseLetter.CurrentLetter is set to lblDice2.Text (sender.text), lblDice2.Text is set to tempLetter.
What's Happening:
The tempLetter and CurrentLetter values are remaining persistent to the Label being clicked on. Ie: lblDice1 click will only display the original text associated. If I click Dice1 then Dice2 and then Dice1 again, the original Dice1 text is displayed (same for Dice2).
This is a lot easier to see. All of the controls with the exception of a button ("btnStart") are defined in the code below. Click the Start button to show values in the DiceLabels grid.
The area that's the problem is Public Sub DiceLabel_Click
I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.
How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.
I have two UserControls on a MasterPage. DataEntryUC contains several TextBoxes and DropDownList. NavSaveUC contains navigation buttons. When the user clicks on a navigation button, I will be saving the data entered into DataEntryUC from the NavSaveUC UserControl.
I have a couple of tables in my DB that contain stored procedure names, control names, control types, SqlDbTypes, etc.... that correlate with DataEntryUC.
How do I reference a text box that is on DataEntryUC from NavSaveUC?
I have been working on the following code from NavSaveUC with no luck.
Dim MyControlName = "txtFirstName" Dim MyControlType = "TextBox" Dim MyStringValue as String
I just discovered the joys of UserControl's and I was wondering if it is possible to populate the usercontrol with data from a database in the UserControl's Form.Load event instead of the form the userControl is placed on. I feel it would make using the control a lot easier if it just populated itself without anymore code.I tried it with a ListView but it gave me a bunch of errors, so I didn't know if it had to be done a certain way or if it was just one of those things that doesn't work no matter what.
I have an error in the beginning of a program I have converted from VB2002 to 2008, and I can't seem to find a way out of it. The error message is:Error2'Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(disposing As Boolean)' has multiple definitions with identical signatures.C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorDesktopBack UpExpendable VS8 copiesClick Counter VS8Click Counter VS8frmSecond.Designer.vb729Click Counter VS8
The offending code seems to be the word "Dispose" after the words "Overrides Sub".
I'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)
In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?
