I am trying to validate wether a number is a decimal in Visual Basic. The results I get when the number is valid the msgBox shows. When it is not valid, I don't receive the msgBox and the program crashes with an error message that number has to be less than infinity.I tried adding another If Not IsNumeric(txt1.text) then -- But received the same results.
Where did i go wrong?
If IsNumeric(txt1.text) Then
msgBox("good")

I create a calculator in visual basic and I put button from 0 to 9 ... and event click textbox1.text = textbox1 + "1" (to 9) ..it work good .. but if i press key 0 from keybord nothing is hapens ..
and the secoun problem .. if I put for example 3.25.89 not 3.2589 how can write in code a "if" for example if textbox1.text -alredy contain a point (.) 3.25 then I click again on button point .. it remain 3.25 but not 3.25.
What would be the code to validate a textbox so that it can only accept positive numbers and a decimal point? If no value is entered, it automatically enters 0.
View 1 RepliesI was curious if there is an easy way, besides making a new custom DataGridViewColumn, that on each keystroke validation is done (while the D.G.V.TextBoxCell is being edited), instead of when focus is lost off the cell.Or in a different senerio, if there is a way to restrict user keystrokes while a D.G.V.TextBox Cell is being edited, while not relying on making a new custom DataGridViewColumn. I would go through the work of implementing this new Column, except the customer for the job I am working at wants small, managable code. And even if this is a useful feature, they would want to avoid having an extra class being made.

I have a datagridview which is bounded to a table m_table constructed in my code. A column named price has decimal type.
DGV.DataSource = m_table
DGV.Columns(columnPrice).ValueType = System.Type.GetType("System.Decimal")
All prices are in decimal. But I found that when clicking the column header of DGV, the price column is sorted like a string. For example:
9.0, 13.5, 8->13.5, 8, 9.0
But I want sort numerically, that is 8,9.0,13.5
I wonder why decimal type cannot be sorted numerically. How to achieve this?

What is my problem?
View 1 RepliesVB.NET code to change Excel 2007 Column Cell Format from Text to a Number no Decimal.
Right now Column F shows values that look like
3E+13
3E+13
Manually changing it to a Number with No Decimal shows the correct value.
30000046605562
30000041582875
Of course I would like to automate this.

My user requests to change the . on the numpad to a when entering text in a multiline textbox.So I was thinking about the KeyDown event.To determine if the numpad . was pressed I can do something like this [code]But now how do I change the returned charachter as a , ? All e.Key... properties are ReadOnly. The KeyPress events let me change this by providing e.KeyChar, but in that event I can't check for the numpad .
View 2 RepliesHow would I go about rounding up decimal numbers to the nearest 2 decimal places? For example $7.0000032 would be $7.01 In theory, VB would make it $7.00 but if it is > $7.00, I want it to reflect that to the nearest penny... so $3.0000001 would be $3.01

2) The value must be converted in string ( some time the comma is used as decimalplaceholder some time the dot)
3) the user modifies the value
4) i need to riconvert the string back in decimal
how can i do this

Variable 123.34D ----> textBox 123,34 or 123.34 -----> variable 123.34D

View 3 RepliesMaybe this is just a really basic question that everyone knows the answer to, and is why I couldn't find the answer. What I want to do is pretty simple. I want to declare a custom type that's just like a Single, except when you access the value, you get the value rounded to the second or third decimal place. Something like this:
Dim MyNumer as TwoDecimalNumber
MyNumer = 1.124
Msgbox(MyNumber) 'This would pop up a box showing "1.12"

Problem: Using the sub routing below, when adding a value to another value the results eventually change from 2-decimal places to multiple decimal places.Basically, the amount stored should always only be 2 decimal places, because the values passed in are always 2 decimal places. Output from calling the sub routine multiple times.
Running total = 329430.75
New Withheld Amount = 710.79
Running total = 330141.54
[code]....
As a workaround, I have a new routine that uses a custom round function to properly store only 2 decimal places - as the VB round function does not perform the type of rounding desired.I understand that we are removing the value from the dictionary and adding it back..
format number to hower many number on left of decimal and 1 decimal without rounding
