I'm currently making a button which when clicked opens a file dialogue box in which the user then selects the file they want, when the file is selected the file name should appear in a text box next to the button. (Much like when browsing for a file to attach to an email) I've created the dialogue box but can only set it to show the file name in a message box when selected.

I've got 2 seperated programs.
One is a program where you can select a product and select how many of them you want. Then the total price wil be displayedin a label. And the list of selected products will be saved in a .txt file.
The second program is an Edit program. The user can edit his selected products. Here he can change the total of a product.So if he had selected 1, he can change it to three or something. When the user clicks the button Save. The changes will besaved in the same .txt file and the total price will also be changed and displayed in program one.
Program one is compleet.Program two has problems and here i need your help:- the user can't make a change in the numbers, seems that the textbox is read-only or something. How to solve?- Then when i click save, the changed must be saved in the .txt ( i can't test this yet because no changes can't be made)- the total new price must be showed in program 1 (i think i programmed this well, but can you take a look)

View 5 RepliesI have built a program in where I have to add and remove items from two listboxes. Listbox1 consists of a file which I have picked up on my C:/. Within this file, are different lines of items. At the end of the item line is a figure. I have a textbox in where when someone adds the an item from listbox1 to listbox2. On clicking the add button, it will add the total which was in the file. If I add more items, it will give me a running total of the items I have added to listbox2.
Now, I'm bamboozled in how to subtract the items from listbox2 with the remove button. So that when a user wants to remove an item that they currently placed in Listbox2. On pressing remove it will subtract the running total from the item which has been removed.. Here is my code in where I add products to the textbox. I have two other text boxes which I use to have these running totals. FYI, Textbox where value is outputted is Textbox5. Textbox6 is used to refresh the data and the other textbox is named 'Total'.

The user will be selecting a file to be read into the program. At the top of the form is a button that says "View Hourly Data File". This button is to be a link to open the data file in a text viewer. However, I would like the button to be deactivated (grayed out) until the user selects the file. Once the file is selected, it will then be an active button.
The Second:Once the user selects the file, and the button is activated, I want the user to be able to open and view-only the text file that they have loaded. It should be opening into a pop-up window.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to create a log file which I am going to use to populate some controls (DataGridView or Treeview). I am trying to figure out if should use text files or XML files to do so. Effectively the log will highlight multiple phases in a client-side app. The log will be written to at various phases when the project is running. The user will always have the options move on to the next phase or save progress and exit the project. As such, I want the log file to highlight how far the user has progressed throught the various phases AND I want the log to highlight varous information from each phase. Whenever the user starts the project, they will be given the option to load existing log files. So the project will have to read these log files and append them where necessary as the user progresses.
I am not sure what the best way to do this is and below is a rudimentary approach using text files. As you can see, the top of the file would have a summary of all the phases and whether or not the user completed each phase. Next each phase would have a data section highlighting what data was stored along the way. I have used a ":" to denote each section. Then within each section I would obviously need to use a delimeter for all my data. So if Phase1 = True, then I would load all the pertinent data from "Phase1:" into the desired control. Can anyone provide an efficient way of doing this and provide some insight as to whether I should use XML instead. The phases my change during development and I am not sure yet which controls I will be using. Does XML provide more flexibility.
In summary I am looking to create, read/write and append log files and populate controls with the data in varous sections of the log file. Example:

View 2 RepliesI have a simple program that opens up a text file and changes it and then what I want to do is save a text file when you click the "convert" button to the directory that the exe exists in e.g. "C:UsersBeaudeanDesktop--Distro--" etc. so say I have a richtextbox with the text in it I want to save and a button called "convert", when I click convert it will save it in the programs root folder with the name "main.html" and I also want it to overwrite any file with the same name.

BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...

I'm creating a program that will copy a selected file to a selected directory, and I want to store recent files/dirs so that they can be selected from a combo box. I was planning to just create a settings with "files" and "dirs", and just store the strings as | separated values (since that's an illegal file character).
