Window.location.reload(true) Only Works In Real Browsers Not .net WebBrowser Control?
May 26, 2011
I have a button on my webpage that runs some javascript code:
alert("Will refresh now");
window.location.reload(true);
It works in all the browsers we've tested it in.But when I display that webpage inside my vb.net executable (in a WebBrowser control)... the "refresh" code is definitely run, but it just clears the screen.

We have a WCF service hosted in IIS that currently calls a VB6 DLL to do part of its job. This works fine, but we can't deploy the service to a 64-bit target environment without configuring IIS to run it in a 32-bit worker process.I am currently investigating ways around that restriction. Porting the VB6 DLL to .NET is not possible for various reasons, so I created an ActiveX EXE wrapper around the DLL in VB6, so that the service can run in 64-bit and the VB6 parts in 32-bit.
When I tested the service I got this error:
Type: System.UnauthorizedAccessException
Message: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {9AE7303B-D159-43F6-B1A5-52D297581820} failed due to the following error: 80070005.
After some Googling I found that this is due to either:
Calling an MS Office component
DCOM permissions not being configured
NTFS file permissions not allowing read/exec access to the IIS worker process identity (ASPNET in my environment)
Of these:
Definitely not applicable Also not applicable; I am not hosting the EXE in DCOM or COM+, just a simple COM out-of-process activation
This looks likely; however, I checked the permissions, and NTFS reports that the Users group (which ASPNET is a member of) does indeed have read/exec access to the file I tried calling the EXE from a unit test fixture, which is executed in my admin-level account rather than the IIS worker process account, and it worked fine, so the error is definitely something to do with permissions. I'm not sure what to do next.
UPDATE:The IIS virtual directory is configured for Anonymous+Windows access; the WCF service uses only Anonymous authentication, the Windows authentication is for the VS debugger. Task Manager reports that the aspnet_wp.exe process is definitely running in the ASPNET account.I explicitly granted Read and Execute access to the ASPNET and IUSR_<machine> accounts on all the COM exes and dlls involved. This made no difference.
I explicitly granted Local Launch and Local Activation access to the ASPNET and IUSR_<machine> accounts on the relevant interfaces in the DCOM configuration. This made no difference either.Keep trying to get this working somehow.Go the whole hog and host the EXE in COM+.Give up. Tell users that the WCF service must be configured to run in a 32-bit app pool on 64-bit Windows.

I have a simple WPF vb.net application and wish to set the visibility property of some buttons on the main window to True when user successfully logs on
I have a MainWindow window with a frame hosting any number of pages and use the navigation service to load into this frame eg. Me.BodyFrame.Navigate(New System.Uri("Logon.xaml", UriKind.Relative)) One Page (logon) enables user to logon.
vb.net code:
Dim txtLocalLogonID = txtLogonID.Text
Dim pwdLocalPassword = pwdPassword.Password
Dim LocalLogon As New gblLogon()
[Code]....
How do I reload the main window? I realise the code is primitive but I just want to get it working first.

I'm getting spotty results trying to build a procedure that queries Yahoo finance, retrieves a stock quote and then passes the HTML body contents to a text variable. Using a WebBrowser control, it works in a 2 step fashion, using a textbox to input the symbol and a button to trigger navigation. After the WebBrowser window fills, I can pull the contents out of the browser window. In this case, it's just one number to keep things simple. The working code appears below:

I am developing an application which has a WebBrowser control, and it navigates to a tal.ki forum. Now tal.ki allows users to sign in using existing accounts in google or facebook, and opens a new window for the same.Now when i click log in, a new IE window opens up, which asks me to log in, i provide the information, the window closes, but the user is not logged into the forum.I have heard that session plays some part here, but i don't know anything i can do for this. I tried WebKitBrowser but that not even opens a window to log in.

I am using an embedded webbrowser control to access a third-party website, populate the username and password boxes on their front page, and login. The problem I have is that the resulting window that the site returns to me is in the form of a new window. What I want to do is capture this window and all it's session/cookie data in to the original webbrowser control, as even if I direct the original window to the same resulting url, some kind of authentication data is missing and the site tells me I have logged out, even though the popup window works fine. I need that page in the original control so that I can continue to access it programmatically, and I don't really want to get in to the complication of accessing the new window, as I expect I'll have to delve in to the api or something.

If an external window (external to my program) is set to TopMost it will be always visible, even if it is not the active window.This means that, for example, if I press a Internet Explorer page, the external TopMos window loses it active state, but remains over the IE web page.Now the question is: How to retrieve by a Timer routine the Hwnd of the REAL Top windows, intending for Real Top windows the ones that MY EYES see as top windows?If the TopMost window is not active both GetForegroundWindow() and GetActiveWindow() get the Handle ot the Internet Explorer window....

Here's my situation: I have a control with motion graphics (for the sake of simplicity, a 'video player' control) in my project. Think of a PictureBox with constantly-changing images. In front of this will sit a second control (such as a second PictureBox of the same dimensions). The topmost PictureBox will be drawn to in its Paint event.
I need to draw very few elements, and the bottom control is updated much more frequently than I need for this drawing. So these elements are drawn to the topmost control. Think of a news broadcast, where they have live video in the background, with a news channel logo, news ticker, and sometimes gradient visible in front.
I'm trying to create that 'foreground' control, and the closest I believe I have gotten so far is the following:
Imports System.Drawing
Imports System.Drawing.Imaging
Imports System.Drawing.Drawing2D
[CODE]...
The 'Opacity' property in the code above is a sort of "scaling factor." The image drawn to the top control may, in different parts of the image, have any alpha value from full transparent to a full 255. This 'Opacity' property is applied to the entire image being drawn, scaling the alpha values of each pixel.

Dim url As String = link.GetAttribute("href")

Basically I have a form which is used for a report, when completed it is then mailed to various mailboxes. I would like the option that if the user cannot complete the form, they can save it & reload the values into the form to use later.Some of the boxes will have quite a lot of text, so using the registry is not an option. I have looked at My.Settings but think this is for application settings not user input such as a lot of text - but I could be wrong.I've looked at freefile & got it to work with text boxes saving to a .dat file, but had a problem in that text appeared in the wrong text boxes so I assume the order was different in the load to what it was in the save?

I have a requirement for a new application development where I must present some information to the user for selection via drag and drop. VB offers the TreeView control which would work nice, however the user does not like the Treeview control's presentation. The user wants a control that work similar to the Mac's Finder control while in column view.
Apple's Mac Finder Control works similar to window's treeview. Finder has a nifty view capability that my users would like in some new development that is being done. The finder supports a "column" view. Similar to the treeview, it starts out in a root list. The difference being, when a user makes a selection and clicks on a node, the node doesn't expand, the sub nodes appear on the pane to the right of the list. Clicking on a sub node, will cause the pane to split again and the items within that sub node appear
to the right again.
This will happen again and again with the left pane getting narrower as the user drives deeper into the sub nodes. That is what I am trying to replicate. Obviously, once the user reaches the base list of items, we have to support drag and drop capability. Does anyone know of a control for VB.NET that work similar to the Mac's Finder control?

You let the user of your control (he/she which uses your control in his/her software) to set the background colour of the two labels. Create a Windows application to test your control.

I have a timer in winforms that looks for a specific OK dialog on my server (it clicks OK on a third party application that runs out of memory, then restarts it -- there is no other work around). So, when I remote desktop the server and the remote desktop window is active (the actual remote desktop window is active, not the actual window that has the OK that has to be clicked. I can have a window that has nothing to do with the OK, and it works), the program works as it should. It finds the window of the OK, then clicks the OK button fine. When I am not in remote destop, or when the remote desktop window is not active (or selecte) it finds the window and finds the OK button, but cannot click the OK button.

I started programming in VB2008 couple of weeks ago (I'm using the express version) and I'm getting stumped by this ridiculously simple problem. I am trying to retrieve varying parameters from an external application and display their values in real time on a windows form control e.g. a label or text box. I already know what class and methods to reference for that, however I can only display instantaneous values (unless I use a .click event handler, but thats foolish I want them displayed without my intervention) I tried writing a loop in form load event handler but that prevents the form from loading. I also tried a loop in another module but that doesn't work either.
