Xml - DataSet.GetXML() Put Data In Attributes Instead Of Elements?

Aug 20, 2009

I have a dataset which I am populating via an Oracle SQL query:

SELECT col_id, col_desc
FROM table_data;

Then I generate the dataset, via the function

Dim ds as New DataSet
OracleDataAdapter.Fill(ds)

Now, when I get the XML of the generated dataset via:

Dim strXML as String
strXML = ds.GetXML()

When I read/display the string, it is showing as follows:

<NewDataSet>
<Table>
<COL_ID>ABC001</COL_ID>[code]....

How would I be able to accomplish this? I would read the rows from the table in the dataset and construct the string?

Xml - Populating Treeview With XSD Elements And Attributes In VB 2008?

Jul 26, 2009

I'm trying to create a treeview in a VB 2008 project that shows all the elements and attributes of an XML Schema.The MSDN documentation for XML schemas seems to imply that by loading the schema into an XMLSchemaSet and compiling it I should get access to all the elements and attributes with their values but this doesn't seem to work in practice.

Using a for loop such as:For Each elem As XmlSchemaElement In compiledSchema.Elements.Values

I can use elem.Name to get the element name (and attribute name with a similar nested loop) for a simple type but this doesn't work for a complex type.Whenever (and however) I try to get values for complex types I hit a brick wall.

XML - Determine Basic Types Of Elements And Attributes From Schema

Feb 17, 2011

I have given the local name of an element or attribute and the schema for the document. What is the easiest way to determine the basic datatype of the element or attribute. By basic datatype I mean the xs:string, xs:date etc. (The built in data types for the xml schema.) One of the problems I face is that it is rare for the elements type to be one of the basic built in types. 99% of the time it is a complex type that 50% of the time refers to another complex type that refers to another complex type and so on.

A simple Example for this schema: I want to find the basic type for Employee/Person/Name/LastName (determine that LastName is xs:normalizedString).
In the schema Employee is defined as an xs:element and type="bns:EmployeeType"

EmplyeeType has a Person element defined but it is type "PersonType" and then Name in person is NameType which is a complex type that extends GeneralName type that is type BasicNameType and that type finally defines the LastName which is of type "LastNameType" and on and on. There also definitions etc. I am currently writing a parser using linq-to-xml to get at this but it isn't easy or pretty. I have searched for other solutions and haven't found any but I fully admit my XML/schema/XPath ignorance. Is there an easy way to get the basic type for elements?

Asp.net - Checking A Html Elements Class Attributes Value Contains "String"

Nov 10, 2010

I have two user controls that need to add a class atribute to the body tag of my page, however they currently over write one another if I just use Body.Attributes.Add("class","value") So I need to check if the class attribute exsists and if it already contains the value Im going to add.

If Not Body.Attributes("class").Contains("value") Then Body.Attributes.add("class", Body.Attributes("class") + " " + "value") End If

EDIT: The contain constraint doesnt return the expected value, resulting the the class not been concatinated, Example: add class "dog" then I a different instance of the same control tries to add "dog" but the contains("dog") returns false

VS 2010 - BindingSource And Dataset - Show Attributes In Textboxes Inside A Form

May 16, 2011

[Code] Somewhere my system haves a function that returns a DataSet with the books of a certain subject and all the Authors that wrote such books. I need to show the book's attributes in some textboxes inside a Form. I use a BindingSource to display the ISBN, Name and Subject of the books in a textbox, yet I don't know how to display the author name of the book I am currently viewing in a TextBox, taking into account I already fetched the Author into the DataSet.

Its pretty much the Child/Parent display problem somewhere discussed in the codebank, but kinda backwards, the thing is that I;m navigating through the CHILD records here, not the parent, yet i have all the data needed in my Dataset.

Data Structures For Stackable Attributes In An RPG

Aug 7, 2010

I'm wrangling with issues regarding how character equipment and attributes are stored within my game.My characters and equippable items have 22 different total attributes (HP, MP, ATP, DFP). A character has their base-statistics and can equip up to four items at one time.[code]Final character ATP in this case would be 88.I'm looking for a way to implement this in my code. Well, I already have this implemented but it isn't elegant. Right now, I have ClassA that stores these attributes in an array. Then, I have ClassB that takes five ClassA and will add up the values and return the final attribute.However, I need to emphasize that this isn't an elegant solution. There has to be some better way to access and manipulate these attributes, including data structures that I haven't thought of using.I should note that there are some restrictions on these attributes that I need to be put in place.E.g.,these are the baselines.For instance, the character's own HP and MP cannot be more than the baseline and cannot be less than 0, whereas the ATP and MST can be. I also currently cannot enforce these constraints without hacking what I currently have :(

ASP.NET MVC Model Validation With Data Annotation Attributes In .NET?

Feb 25, 2011

in the sense that MVC does not complain about my protected inner abstract Metadata class, and the model validation still works:

Partial Domain Object, generated by a tool:
Partial Public Class SampleDomainObject
Private _id As Integer

[code]....

I did this because I didn't want to have to implement actual properties with backing fields, getters, and setters in VB.NET for the Metadata class to keep the maintenance to a minimum (I'm on .NET 3.5, no auto-properties for me).What I'm worried about is that having a protected abstract inner class could be confusing to others using this domain object outside of MVC (my domain objects are part of a shared data access framework).

System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet DataSet)

May 14, 2012

I have tried everything I can to get beyond this error which shows below as <<<<< error here. It is trying to fill a dataset from a data adapter. If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table. IS there something wrong with the Imports section: Imports System

Getting Data From Individual Elements In Access Database?

I don't need the code for the loop or anything, just the syntax for reading the value of a specific row and column in a table to a variable.

Wpf - Create 'object' Containing A Polygon And Variables And Other Data Elements

Apr 6, 2012

I'm trying to write a simple game ui, it is grid/tile based, and i have the grid built using grid column and row definitions and I'm successfully placing objects in various grid locations. I am currently stuck as trying to build the player object. I want a single object reference to represent the various components of the players piece.

Currently I am using a polygon to represent the piece on the grid. Eventually I want to replace this with images or something. I want to add in properties for what weapon and armor it has equipped I want properties for health

Essentially in code i want something like this

dim player1 as new playerobject
player1.polygon.points = 0,0 60,30 0,60
player1.health = 100

[Code]....

I can instantiate all this as separate variables etc, but I'd like to have a singular reference that contains all the variables, properties, objects, controls etc.

I'm using vb .net in vs 2010 (and no, I'm not looking to write in something else)

This will include the ability to edit/save from this other form too.

Add Data To A Typed Dataset?

Jun 25, 2010

I created a dataset in Visual Studio 2010 containing two tables: tblCategories and tblAnswers. tblCategories has two columns: CategoryNumber (AutoNumber and primary key) and CategoryName. tblAnswers has three columns: AnswerNumber (AutoNumber and primary key), Answer, and CategoryNumber. The CategoryNumber columns in each table are related. I have a command button which I want to use to add a record to the CategoryName column in tblCategories with the data typed in a textbox. When I try to access the dataset to add a new row(dataset.tblCategoriesDataTable.NewRow), the NewRow method isn't present. I've done some reading which suggests that I need a TableAdapter, but it seems like that is for connecting to an external file because I have to select a connection. I have no external SQL files or database. I want the user to be able to create a database within my program.
