I have a problem while reading xml file in vb.net i.e. giving error message "Data at the root level is invalid. Line 860, position 18." My xml file with error while reading is as follows.
In my project i read text file line by line by checking with a specific word and store that line into textboxes.
My code id
Dim fName As String = " Z:\rdf1.txt" 'path to text file Dim testTxt As New StreamReader(fName) Dim allRead As String = testTxt.ReadToEnd() 'Reads the whole text file to the end
I am making c++ write a file to a folder of my choice in which it prints out my scores from a math test that c++ gives me. The problem is vb is kicking an error out
"Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to 'System.Text.Encoding'.
All the file is, is a simple .txt file named math_scores.txt that cpp outputs[code]...
I have the following code under my button: [code] It is supposed to open "Database.bin", search the file for whatever the user types into SearchBox (a text box), and add to DisplayBox (a list box) every line of that file that contains the string the user searched. [code]
I get "Implicit conversion from "Object" to "Missed_Calls.MySettingClass" error message.
Dim objStreamReader As New StreamReader("program filesmissed_callsSettings.xml") Dim p As New MySettingsClass() Dim x As New XmlSerializer(p.GetType) p = x.Deserialize(objStreamReader) objStreamReader.Close()
I am reading file with text contents on it.sample dictionary.txt contents:
aa abaca abroad apple
Snippet A:
Dim path as String = Server.MapPath("dictionary.txt"); Dim dictionary() as String = {} Try
[code]....
Basically, I want to make sure that I can handle/prevent this error.Does Snippet B, solves the problem, if not is there other way so that I can prevent this error.BTW, this a web application and I am expecting multiple users.
I try to compile a project with msbuild.exe I have this error :

This icon is the Application icon which is in the same directory of the project.vbc is started with /win32icon:"Recycle Bin Empty.ico" parameter.Don't know why MSBuild can't reach the file.
I am working on a project in VB 2008 and need it to do this:Read first line from text file (using Openfile)Enter line into textbox on formDo some other codeThen Read second linefrom text fileEnter line into same text boxand loop until we have gone through text fileI am not sure how to read line by line from text file then enter it in textbox. I can open the Openfile and get the filename and everything, but I just am not sure how to read from it or enter that line into the textbox. Here is what I have, its not much but its a start:
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click Dim FileReader As StreamReader
I need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know: 1. how to open a new file 2. how to specify the record length 3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
i am importing data from Excel workbook having around 30 sheets in each book. Application works fine but after uploading few books it gives error continuously Exception from HRESULT: 0x800AC472 i used thread.sleep(1000) for each workbook into folder remove that? if these due to hyperlinks in some sheet, is any way to disable hyperlinks through code in vb.net
I'm in the process of creating a tile based game. This game requires a method to load a text file and write the numbers between the delimiter "-", to a multidimensional array. However, an error message "object not set to an instance occurs. [code]...
When i run the program, i get error on the statement inside Do While Loop. The piece of code from my application is:
Dim selectString As String selectString = "Select ContactName, Address from Customers" Dim cmd As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand(selectString, con)[code].....

I have a simple WPF windows application trying to read a serial port with the System.IO.Ports.SerialPort. When I try to read the incoming data in the DataReceived event, I get an exception saying that I don't have access to the thread. How do I solve it?
I have this in the WPF window class:
Public WithEvents mSerialPort As New SerialPort() Private Sub btnConnect_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles btnConnect.Click With mSerialPort
I am running some commands on computers and I would like to have them output a seperate text file if the command cannot run.
For Each strUserName As String In strLines Dim ReplaceCommand As String = sCommand.Replace("*", strUserName).Replace("$$$", saveFileDialog3.FileName & ".txt").Replace("###", exeSearch)
[code]....
Am I on the right track? I am getting an output to a text file but its just one line ans always says PASS.
I am trying to get both text box to read the military times. If either time is invalid the "enter valid, the "enter valid input" message box should display. In my validMilTime I tested both hours and minutes. I am not sure if I wrote the code for minutes correctly in the validMilTime to test minutes. I test it and it goes directly to "enter valid input". I want it to read "both times are valid" if I put 1200 and 1400 in both txtStart and txtEnd textbox.
Here is my code so far: Option Strict On Option Explicit On Public Class frmMiltime Private Sub btnEdit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnEdit.Click If ValidMilTime(txtStart) And ValidMilTime(txtEnd) Then [Code] .....
.DataSource = dsAuthors .DataMember = "authors" End With
However, it will not allow me to reference .DataMember, it keeps popping up with the error text "'DataMember' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.DataGrid'". What can I do to resolve this error? Or how else can I read into the DataGrid?
Note: I have the most recent Framework installed with Service Pack 1
this is strange, I've got a macro with an array containing several registry keys. And I want to insert the values of these into predefined bookmarks in a Word document. This works great if the key is there, but if it isn't, I want the code to skip that and continue trying the next one in the array. I've got the code that looks like this:
I want to perform two hashing operations concurrently on a single file, without reading the file twice. Is there some way to share the FileStream between two synchronized hashing threads? For example:
Dim Stream As New IO.FileStream("...", IO.FileMode.Open) Dim HashA, HashB As Byte() Dim A = New System.Threading.Thread(Sub()
[code]....
Maybe some way of caching a stream? Trouble is, I don't want the entire file in memory at once (it could be many gigabytes in size) and I don't want the file read more than once, due to speed issues. I want the file cached only sufficiently to ensure that both threads can work. For example, suppose at some point in time, thread A had read 100k of the file, but thread B had only read 20k of the file. The portion of the file between 20k and 100k should be cached; but then progressively forgotten as thread B catches up. Then again, if thread B is too slow, we might still end up with hundreds of megabytes being cached.Maybe thread A should be made to wait while thread B catches up. Maybe the ReadByte() function of the stream should block for a while if one of the threads is too far behind?
friend of mine has no HTML knowledge so I'm attempting to write a program that replaces certain parts of a html file to suit his needs.I've edited the HTML file and marked certain parts with "tags" like this:
#IMAGEURL1# I have a textbox where he can copy + paste an image URL and hopefully the #IMAGEURL1# is replaced with the contents of the textbox.
So can someone please enlighten me to-as how to open a HTML file (there's no textbox to display the contents just yet, I'll add one if needed), find the specified text and then replace it with whats in a textbox.
I am trying to import a TAB (NOt comma) delimited text file into a DataGridView. The following code works fine if I have a comma separated file. All I have to do is change the FMT to "Delimited".It just does not work with FMT=TabDelimited. All columns are read into single datatable column. The text file is ANSI text and I have double checked to make sure Tabs are tabs and not spaces, even exported a sample Tab Delimited file from Excel. Can this even be done using Text Driver? [code]
How do I play a WAV file while the computer is reading aloud a text file? It uses Text to Speech synthesis and I need a laughter wav to play when the computer comes across something funny in the line.
I'm learning VB.NET coming from a VB6 and Java background. In my app, I've got a function that validates the fields on a form. All it is doing is reading them, not updating. I've searched and see info about the backgroundWorker class, but all the examples are about updating the fields.I understand the idea of threading and how it works, but have never written code that spawned threads myself. I've always let the language handle it. It seems like a lot of work that I would have to write a sub using the backgroundWorker for every time I wanted to read or update each field. The couple of books I've got that introduce you to the language show you reading or updating the field directly. How do I know what threads are running other than writing the code like I'm used to then running through debugger to figure out what variables are on which thread?
In VS2005, using vb.net:[code]When I look at the Mssg it says that the Mssg.Body couldn't be retrieved because of protection level.Body = {"Process. Data is inaccessible due to its protection level. Only public types can be processed."}I copied this code off of the internet, and I have been successful in writing to the queue, but this code is driving me up the wall.
