ASP.Net Generate And Save CSV Using System.Web.HttpResponse
Sep 2, 2011
I'm using the following code to generate a CSV file containing data from a dataset. The CSV generates fine and a prompt box displays so that the user can either open or save the csv file. What I'm wondering is whether it's possible to save the CSV file?
Edited with solution (NB I don't need the prompt box to open as I'll be writing additional code to generate and save a number of files and then display links to them). This saves the dataset as a CSV on our server.
Protected Sub exportBtn_click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim ds1 As DataSet
ds1 = csvdownload.ReturnNewPledges()
I'm writing some code in which I need to use my own HttpResponse object to capture the output from a method on another object that takes an HttpResponse as a parameter. The problem is, this other object (which I cannot modify) calls HttpResponse.End(), which causes an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception to be thrown. What can I do about this?
Dim myStringbuilder As New StringBuilder Dim myStringWriter As New IO.StringWriter(myStringbuilder) Dim myResponse As New Web.HttpResponse(myStringWriter)
MVC 3. VB.NET I have the following controller action in my application to send generated PDF files to the User by download. The function works fine when the controller itself has been invoked. But when I call to the function from outside the controller it returns a " Object reference not set to an instance of an object " error as soon as it hits the response.contenttype line. I have verified that all of the variables are in fact making it to the below action.[code]any ideas why this is only working when called explicitly from inside its containing controller???
I would like someone to modify the following code to save data to generate the primary key for each record automatically. In the database, the ID column is the primary key and the Is Identity is set Yes.
I have asked questions about this before but my program has came to cross roads where I require more flexibility in my security procedures. At the moment I generate a specific key based on certain details about the system, and I hash this data to file, which ensures it will only run on this system.
However it has now got to the point where I have a need for providing keys which will carry settings for the program within the key. So that if a customer wants an update its the matter of sending an updated key, which will allow certain areas of the program to be unlocked/locked.Obviously I can no longer use the hash, as it can't be decrypted. I am looking to use key encryption system, which will allow to encrypt data within a license key. But obviously it brings the problem of where to store Crypt & decrypt key within the program.
However i was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible and how to go about using said system speaker to speak - MESSAGE YOU ARE NOT AUTHORISED - for example
I am creating an app that allows admin access via a usb key (this is working fine) and i want their system to sound an alarm with a warning message should they try to force thier way into the admin section without the admin usb key.
I have a function that accepts a string and generates an email attachment based on that string. It works fine for html pages, text documents, and so forth but I can not get it to generate a PDF file.
Code:
Public Sub SendMail _ ( _ ByVal strFrom As String _ [code]......
If I save the file attachment as Whatever.PDF i get the error that it was not encoded properly.I am using datadynamics active reports PDF exporter to generate the PDF
dim pdf as new datadynamics.activereports.export.pdf.pdfexport sendmail("from@", "to@", "test", "test", pdf.tostring, "pdf.pdf")
I think the problem is I am converting the PDF to a string, and then trying to convert it back to a PDF and attach it to the email but I am not 100% sure.

What does this mean? I have this error after i tried to add a database to my project in vb.net.If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room
I am using vb to make a hospital system which works with a access database. i am having an issue with the updating function to the database, this time round instead of hard codding the connection i used the connection/data source wizard, in microsoft visual studio 2008 and there fore most of the code has been auto generated for me, which includes the insert, delete and update funtions from what i can find and what i have read vb is ment to also auto generate this which it is not. the funny thing is that i can close the program down and reload it (as long as i haven't opened the database) and my changes are still there but if i go and open the database and it hasn't changed. also i can change the database through the use of the Dataset connections in the datasource tab but not int he program the code ive found and believe that is meant to update the database
This is running off a couple of buttons i also have a update query but have know way of accessing it
It's a game that continues for a long time and isn't done in a hour, so it is pretty annoying that if the player re-opens the game he has to do everything over again. So, does anybody know how I can make a save/load system? Like that on the first form of the game there is a "Save" and "Load" button. If the player presses the "Save" button, the program automatically saves the progress of the player in a file somewhere on the harddisk of the player, and if the player presses "Load", the program automatically loads the file he saved, so the player doesn't have to start all over again.
ok this code will save data withc is URL from textbox and load it to listbox , but i want it save first name of uRl like google then in other textbox put URl and save so when its load data its shows only name like Google not [URL] in listbox sometimes the link is too long and it will be not good interface in form1 and then when u click Google in listbox it open its URl [URL]
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click My.Settings.FavList.Add(url_text.Text)
I am developing a Open/Save dialog that has reduced access to the system (no editting, moving or deleting existing files and folders). I have been succesful at achieving these goals now and I only have one thing left to tackle, but I can't figure it out yet.I want to change the things that are displayed in the top combobox. I want "My Computer" to be the top element and then show specified hard drives beneath it.
I have achieved all my previous goals by using hooks into the default dialogs and I wonder if my last problem could be solved in the same way.
I have a read only file and I am using System.Diagnostics.Process to open the file.If a user tries to save the file the "Save As" dialog box opens because the file is read only. The "Save As" dialog box brings them to the directory from where the file was opened from.
I'm having issues with the way I've been reading my image datatype blobs from my SQL database (code below). This code works fine when I access this page directly. The PDF will open and works just fine. However, when I try to use this page to download a file and save it to the file-system programmatically, it fails (500 server error) and I've verified that it's the same URL either way.So, my question is what is the best way to download a file from a database image datatype and save it to disk?PDF.aspx
I am currently trying to create a DLL for use with a RESTful api. The only issue I have is that so that this DLL can be used in a service or a program without a GUI, so I can't use "Imports System.Drawing.Imaging" as this requires a form. I have looked around for examples to handle this without using this library but have had no luck.
I published my VB 2008 Express application and installed it on a test computer. The test computer has .NET 3.5 on it, but does not have any Visual Studio development programs on it (I think this is the best way to really test it before sending it to other users. It works fine. The application reads some data from a text file. Every few days, I need to update this text file and send it to the user. (I do not want to republish everything, and I do not want to run a web server.) I naively (??) designed things so that this would be done by attaching the new text file to an email and sending it to the user. The user would simply (?) save this attachment to the same directory as the .exe was in (the application directory). In the old days, there would have been an .exe file in some folder like c:Program FilesDavewareMyprog.exe. And my .txt file would be right beside it.In the code, I have used
in various places where I use a Streamreader and Streamwriter to access it. But I've now sent an 'update' email with the .txt file to the test computer, and proceeded to save the attachment, and then realized I'm stuck. I can't find any directory that looks like it might be a good old application folder. In fact, there are references to my application all over the place, in very ugly looking paths. Now I think I'm in trouble as I read the MSDN on BaseDirectory, which starts out:"Gets the base directory that the assembly resolver uses to probe for assemblies".Is there any way I can do things as I designed it? I can think of some work arounds, like try to hard code some folder off c: that has nothing to do with where the .exe is etc, but putting it in the 'application folder' seems so much easier and wouldn't require knowledge of which drive the .exe ended up on etc. on the user's computer.
I want to send a image to server side using HTTPService,I am using ASP.NET for server side coding. I don't know how to write server side code to receive the image sent as a byteArray, and I am also not sure if my client side code is correct or not。is there any IT PRO..[code]I could not get the image in my disk,I think the flex side should have not problem, but the VB code side should be something wrong.
I just wondered if you can or can't save arrays using the settings system object. There seems to be no way of entering it at designtime. It seems implied you cannot create new user settings.subobjects at runtime. I'm looking to find the easiest way to save a populated array of PictureBox's. If the only way is a self/custom made/managed .ini file then I need to know so i can start on that but I was hoping to use some of all this phaff in the new frameworks usefully.
I have following instance of System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection:
Dim UserSelection As New System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection UserSelection.Add("D_Color1", "Black") UserSelection.Add("D_Color2", "Green") UserSelection.Add("D_Color3", "Purple")
I need to save this instance to hard disk and then load it back from hard disk as an instance. How do I do that?
Once a user has selected a file with the open file dialog, how can I handle this action? For example, if the user has selected a .txt file and has opened it, how can it get the data from the file? How can it return the path that the user found the file in? Then, how can it save the file?I know that there is a OpenFileDialog.OpenFile() method, but I am also pretty sure this is not what I am looking for. I have also tried the ToObject method, but I probably messed up somehow.
I am getting following error whenever I want to use IIf function inside entity framework query.
LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Object IIf(Boolean, System.Object, System.Object)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.
