View 2 RepliesHow can you access the Start Menu from a VB form for both Windows XP & 2000?
I've done a lot of research and haven't found anything that works for this.
I only managed make the form always on top. But what I want is when the form is on top, user cannot access the other application in the windows.
For example : Some messagebox won't let users access the other application until the users hit the OK button.
The problem has been simplified for the purpose of clarity. I want to make a windows form application that uses an access database. The application will store the list of person's basic details such as name, age and country. The database contains two related tables ie person(id, name, age, country_id) and country(id, country_name) My windows form contains TextBox, DateTimePicker, ComboBox for Name, Age and Country respectively. Now I want to make CRUD operation Programmatically (Not using Visual tools) in the same form with some navigation buttons.
View 1 RepliesAny examples of of windows forms that interact with access databases in vb.net. What I creating is a form where you can enter data to a database and delete if need be. But display the contents of a database in a table or tree.
View 2 RepliesI'm having an issue with my app where IE will get brought to the front of the screen when I am switching between forms. Basically I have a form with the man menu which consist of a few command buttons that will start up another form once a user clicks on the button. I do not want the users loading up multiple forms in my application, so once they load one form I end up hiding the main form. So my code looks as shown below when a button is clicked.

View 2 RepliesI have a form with a list that shows information from a database. I want the list the update in run time (or almost real time) every time something changes in the database. These are the three ways I can think of to accomplish this:Set up a timer on the client to check every few seconds: I know how to do this now, but it would involve making and closing a new connection to the database hundreds of times an hour, regardless of whether there was any change Build something sort of like a TCP/IP chat server, and every time a program updates the database it would also send a message to the TCP/IP server, which in turn would send a message to the client's form: I have no idea how to do this right now Create a web service that returns the date and time of when the last time the table was changed, and the client would compare that time to the last time the client updated: I could figure out how to build a web service, but I don't how to do this without making a connection to the database anyway The second option doesn't seem like it would be very reliable, and the first seems like it would consume more resources than necessary. Is there some way to tell the client every time there is a change in the database without making a connection every few seconds, or is it not that big of a deal to make that many connections to a database?

I'm trying to do a simple select query from a MS access database from my service. Has anyone managed to do this in the past using their Jet eninge?
I had originally debugged and tested the code in a windows form and it worked fine. Once I moved the code into a windows service and installed it, it bombs out and doesn't generate any errors.
Thing is, I just found a .mdb file on the net so not entirely sure of the database version. I'm running office 2007 and read that if you used the .accdb version on a machine that didn't have access 2007 installed (which is going to be 99% likely), you had to install some drivers etc. in order for it to work. That is not an option unfortunately which is why I went with the old .mdb that could use Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 without any drivers to be installed.
Do I need to import something into this project to get this to work? I've attached the code below. I've added a comment after the problematic line.
Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection
Dim dbProvider As String
Dim dbSource As String

I've been struggling with this problem in VB.net for a while: whenever I try to access the My Documents, My video's or simular in Windows 7, I get an access denied error. The program that uses this code is a file-backup application, so it's important it can access everything. The app has admin rights, using this line:requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false" />
To confirm, I also get a nice UAC popup when starting. The app accesses the files twice. Once to calculate the file size, and once to actually copy the files. Here is the file-size calculation code (that I found online:) Function GetFolderSize(ByVal DirPath As String, ByVal includeSubFolders As Boolean) As Long
