[code] info: using access 2003 (.mdb) the Date of Birth field has been set into Date/Time.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to access a database which is presently saved in .cds format (which I believe is a TClientDataSet) from within my programme written in VB.Net. The reason being, is that the programme I am writing uses the same database as another programme. Both programmes will never being running at the same time, and it is a read-only operation so I could potentially duplicate the database and convert the database to an SQL-compatible format, but obviously this isn't a tidy solution.Is there anyway that I can directly read data from the .cds file with VB.Net? It seems like this would be something that is not too complex and wouldn't be too different from just reading a .csv file.
View 3 RepliesI have Attactments in a old access Database table that I need to show to the user in VB.net. After doing everything we can think of we been looking for days and found this and starting putting it back togerther.
But at this point it is telling me {"Unrecognized database format 'F:\CLSINC\WORD\CLS programmer\CLS Helpdesk.accdb'."} db = dbEngine.OpenDatabase("F:\CLSINC\WORD\CLS programmer\CLS Helpdesk.accdb", False, False, "")

I've recently made another question about connecting to MS-ACCESS database with .NET in C# or VB.NET. It worked just as intended with MDB, but with accdb it caused an exception in
conn.Open();which follows:
Is there another way to do this? My original intention (like stated in the original question) is gathering some (actually, a lot of) fields.

I would like to update an Access database at a particular time.For example:I have a startdatetime = 11/08/2011 8:00 AM.I want to update the database when DateTime.Now = Startdatetime.AddMinutes(30)I thought about using a Timer, but i am not sure how to update the database when the timer stops.Note: This statement will be in a loop, because I will be updating e.g For i = 1 to n

I'm using ASP.NET/VB and I'm trying to insert a date and time into an Access date/time field, but I'm getting an error (Data type mismatch in criteria expression). Here's a simplified version of my code:
Dim myDate As Date = Now()
Dim myIns1 As New OleDbCommand("INSERT INTO tableCourse (date_submitted) VALUES (?)", myConn)
myIns1.Parameters.AddWithValue("@myDate", myDate)
myIns1.ExecuteNonQuery()
Not sure why I'm getting the error, and not quite sure if this is even the correct way to approach inserting the current date. From looking at other similar questions it appears there are a few different ways to do this, but my technical knowledge is kind of limited so I'm having a hard time figuring it out (in other words deciphering the answers that use technical terms I know nothing about).
Dim purchasedatetime As Date = Now
chasedatetime2 = purchasedatetime.AddSeconds(50)
Dim subtotal As String

I need a way to store just the time only to my access database. the datetimepicker isn't working because there is no way to have a null date.I found this and it seems to be exactly what I need.When I try to convert it to vb2008 i get a few errors I can't figure out.
View 8 RepliesThis is probably a pretty novice design question. I'm trying to work my way through a number of requirements and give the users the experience they're looking for.I've written a tool that does big calcluation-type things. It currently consists of a class library and command line tool (separate .NET projects.) We're using an Access database format as the file type because it can keep all the various tables together in one file. A few other items about the application: There are not many users. There are no concerns with scalability. There are not great concerns with updates. Desktop is desired. Not web.Using VB and .NET 3.5 SP1
I now need to develop a GUI front end that will allow typical File/Open and File/Save type operations.Users expect that they can open a file, edit it some, then either choose to save it or close it unsaved without any changes being written back to the file. Saving it would obviously save all changes affecting all tables back to the file.
Does it then make sense to use a temp file for something like a proxy then? To, when a user "opens" a file, copy the source Access file to a local temp file and then use that for the editing session? Then, if the user "saves", copy the local temp file back to the source path?
Update: [tagged with ms-access tag too] Also, I omitted the fact that users would expect typical File / Save As functionality too. I think the design I've put in question in this post is what is traditionally called the Proxy design pattern. Has anyone tried this (successfully!) with Access database files before? Words of caution or advice?
I am developing application using VB 2010 in v studio 2010 environment running win 7 home. I am using nwind.mdb ms access db which is sitting in c:xyzlocaldata folder and is linked with application, i can run query and retrieve/preview data with no problem. When i run application, i get run time error >>Could not find file C:xyzlocaldatainx86Debugwind.mdb. I copied a copy of access db to this folder, i don't get error message. However fly time transaction data are updated in access db sitting underC:xyzlocaldatainx86Debugind.mdb folder not under c:xyzlocaldata folder.I have all reports and queries linked to access db sitting under c:xyzlocaldata folder, process transactions are not reflected in this folder access db.Transactions are updated
View 2 RepliesThere is a varchar column in the database table in this format of military time 1230 or 1750 or 1320 and that field get populated into a gridview in asp. I need to convert that string to standard time. I have tried the DateFormatString and nothing seems to work.
the asp is
<asp:BoundColumn DataField="ScanTime" SortExpression="ScanTime" ReadOnly="True"
HeaderText="Scan Time" DataFormatString="{0:hh}:{0:mm} {tt}">
<ItemStyle Width="80px"></ItemStyle>
</asp:BoundColumn>
that DateFormatString causes Input string was not in a correct format. error.
I have tried combinations of hh:mm and things like that but since its a varchar I think its failing
Is there a way of converting a unix time stamp to normal format time and date in .NET?
View 3 RepliesI have a VB6 application which has been running succesfully for years under XP, however under Vista data loss has been observed.It appears that if the app is run 'as administrator' then it connects to the correct database file, however if the app. is not run as administrator then vista creates a copy of the database (no idea where) - hence I end up with 2 versions of the database.
In fact I can delete the database file entirely and the app. still works fine because vista is using it's own copy - the problem is how do I back up this 'vista copy' when I can't find it (search doesn't find it).
it's just for a program registration. i would store all of the registration codes in the access database, then export it to XML, then upload it to my web host. I would then somehow connect it to my Visual Basics login form (Which I have already made). If this can't be done, having them register through the form and having all the allowed codes on the internet (So i can easily edit them)!

I'm trying to create a textbox that'll only accept a value in the 24 hour format (i.e. "18:00" or "1800"). I've been reading up on the FormatDateTime Function but I don't know whether thats appropiate...
Also, how do I set a textbox to be fixed with two decimal places? On VB6 I could do this in properties, but I can't find an option ni Visual Basic Express 2008.
have a regular expression in .NET, which will allow only 24 hr time format in the textbox.

I am trying to export cells in a DGV that has time formatting. The data for the cells is stored in an Access database that also is set for date and time. My problem is when I export the DGV to excel, the date and time show up as pound symbols until i click on the cell, and it adds the current date with the time even though in the app I only put in the time. All I want is the time to show up in the Excel cells and not to have it show up as pound signs.
