BackgroundWorker - Unable To Edit Textbox
Apr 27, 2010
My application has to do a lot of work when I press as single button. When he is doing this he got to changes sometimes a few tings in a textbox. Sometimes the calculation can take more then 10 - 15 minutes, is there any way to make it doesn't say not responding? And you are able to work further in the program. I did try backgroundworker but I'm not able to edit the textbox.

I have a WPF ListView that I am trying to filter within a BackgroundWorker. My code is shown below:
Dim Worker As New BackgroundWorker
AddHandler Worker.DoWork, AddressOf Me.FilterAsync
Me.TextBoxText = Me.TextBox.Text
Worker.RunWorkerAsync(Me.TextBox)
[code]....
This code runs through the filtering however it fails with an error "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it." on the following line:
ListView.Filter = New Predicate(Of Object)(AddressOf Me.FindItemsAsync)
What would be the problem here? I can't seem to find any samples with filtering through the BackgroundWorker.

I'd like to create a standard AutocompleteTextBox that works with a timer, such that there is only one BackgroundWorker working on searching - if the user entered a few more keystrokes, but the old search is still running - that search shall be canceled gracefuly (via CancelAsync), and as soon as its canceled the new search will begin.

When using VB.Net (2008) and paused in debugging, Edit-And-Continue is a great time-saver. However if you change any module/class-level information (variable, sub/function signature, etc), you get the error message like this:
"unable to apply this change while debugging"
While I can understand the technical challenge to making this work (and why it would be hard), it leaves me in a tight spot with just a few options:
1) Restart and recompile and get the program back to the same state
2) Continue debugging without making the change, and risk forgetting
3) Type up a reminder note to make the change All of which are annoying.Now I know that option '4) Just actually make the change' may not be possible. but does anybody know how to enable the following 'technically easy' possibility?
4) Let me change the code, get it flagged with the purple squiggly underline, so I can save it, but just ignore the change until recompile
I have checked the Tools|options|debug|edit and continue, nothing appears to let me do this.

I recently moved my Application that was running off of Window XP and created in VS 2005 over to a box that's running Windows7.Now, when I try to debug, I can't edit. In the lower portion of the screen, it gives me this error: Cannot currently modify this text in the editor. It is read only.
Under Tools->Options->Debugging, Edit and Continue are already selected; so it's something else. Also, under project properties->compile I have it set to Cofiguration (Active Debug) and Platform (Active Any CPU).

I have one DataGridView named dgv.dgv is pretty much a plain gridview. No bounded data. No columns added. It's basically empty.I also have one DataTable named dt.I add rows and columns manually into dt.
dt.Columns.Add(New DataColumn("TexBox", GetType(String)))
dr = dt.NewRow()
dr("TextBox") = String.Empty
dt.Rows.Add(dr)
I then simply set dgv datasource into dt.
dgv.DataSource = dt
dgv.Refresh()
I then set the value for this particular cell.
dgv.Item(0,0).Value = "xxx"
Now when I run and execute all those commands. I happen to retrieve the gridview with that value indeed. The "xxx" cell appeared and currently it's uneditable.What I want to achieve is:Allow this "xxx" cell to be editable. Preferrably if it can be inserted into a TextBox control inside the cell.

I've got a csv text file "test.txt" in the following format with one record per line in the following format: Builder,Bob,B,99HappyStreet,Springtime,4
I've read them into an array and in design use the first two to populate a listbox and then use a selected index to fill text boxes and some list boxes.
ex. TextBox_FirstName.Text = Employees(ListBoxMain.SelectedIndex).FirstName
How do I write the changes made in the text fields back to the position in the file where it was? It has me stumped although I'm sure there is a SelectedIndex option that can work.
I've considered having all the new/changed data saved as a new record and then just deleting the 'old' entry but my delete code gives me a selectedindex-1 index out of range exception error that I'm working on as well. I am sure both problems are related.[cod]e...

I have an officecharge textbox in which I specify how much I'm charging the customer for a specific service. If the user changes the officecharge value for that customer I would like to keep track of the previous value to then compare
it to the new value to then set a boolean variable true or false accordingly. I would like to fire/trigger this segment of code everytime the user leaves the OfficeChargeTextBox (after it loses focus) so that it can compare the final value entered with the previous value and then decide what to do based on whatever login.applies from that point forward.[code...]

I'm currently working on "transferring" my vb6 application to vb.net. I'm doing a complete rebuild from the ground up - which allows me to address issues that have arisen over the life of my vb6 application and I'm also learning .net as I work. My primary concern though, is that on one of my forms I display all the information about a customer (Name, Address, Notes, Phone Number, Assigned Salesman, etc.) in VB6, I put all the textboxes in a frame and disabled the frame so they boxes looked "normal", meaning there were still white with black text. In .net, if I add the textboxes to a

I am using the following code to filter on a textbox value using the BindingSource.Filter function.I thought this was the right code based on my many searches.
BindingSource1.Filter = "ValueID = '%" & ValueToFilter.Text & "%'"
When do a debug, it shows the correct value which is "432360ac-ac35-4101-8d46-f2cbd5b5dc52.There are spaces in the end of this value and it is exactly the same in the SQL database with the spaces. ValueID is a column in my SQL server. It does not filter the records in my dataset.I tried replacing the ValueToFilter.Text with my actual value as shown above including the space at the end and it filters the records just fine exactly as I want it to. Although I obviously need it to work for multiple values from my SQL server.

I have a form with lots of textbox, and a dateTimePicker. All of these controls are binded to a JoinTableDataBindingSource. So when I wanted to insert a new value or update the values, I have to rebind all these controls to the respective tableBindingSource.So after saving all the values to database, I rebind them again to the JoinTableBindingSource to display the values accordingly.
All these works perfectly until I tried to bind the DateTimePicker. I am able to show the Date, insert new values to Date, and updating date.However, after all the binding and rebinding,whenever I tried to call tblJoinTruckTableAdapter.Fill (me.dataset. tblJoinTruck), All the textbox.Text becomes "Nothing". I am unable to show the values in the textbox.
Everything works when I commented off the binding and rebinding of dateTimePicker. I seriously have no idea what had happen.Below is the binding and rebinding of my dateTimePicker.'I have clear the databinding before adding this to point it back to its respective table.
dtpTareDate.DataBindings.Add(
New Binding("Value", TblTruckBindingSource, "dtTareDateTime"))
'After inserting or updating the values, I clear the binding and rebind it back to tblJoinTable.
dtpTareDate.DataBindings.Add(New Binding("Value", TblJoinTruckBindingSource, "dtTareDateTime"))[code].....

I am using VB to make a file editing system that allows the user to edit multiple files on multiple tabs like Notpad++.I hit a slight snag though. Seeing as tabs don't contain text, I add a textbox to each tab upon creation.For loading files I want to check if the current tab's textbox is empty so I don't end up adding the loaded file as a new tab, which would just create clutter (like how when word opens a file, it checks if the current document is an unsaved file with no text before loading.)Problem is, how do I check this with tabs I haven't added yet? (Ie will be added whilst the program is running as opposed to in design mode)

I have a small problem with my AutoComplete Textbox in that it doesn't replace what I type with the item from the drop down list. This is hard to explain so I will start off with the AutoComplete of the combobox and how it works.
If I create a combobox with the following listitems (pay attention to case as this is the actual problem)
Item1
Item2
Production1
Production2
Now I can set my AutocompleteSource to ListItems and when I begin typing into a combobox I get a list of matches (Using SuggestAppend)So if I type i (lowercase) I get a list containing Item1 and Item2 with tem1 added and selected for overtyping in my combobox text. Now if I press Tab or Enter, My combobox.text is updated with Item1 with the proper casing from the list even though I typed a lowercase i. This is not how it is working in the textbox. Using the following code:
Dim mySource As New AutoCompleteStringCollection
mySource.AddRange({"Item1", "Item2", "Production1", "ProductionItem2"})
TextBox1.AutoCompleteCustomSource = mySource
TextBox1.AutoCompleteSource = AutoCompleteSource.CustomSource
TextBox1.AutoCompleteMode = AutoCompleteMode.SuggestAppend
When I begin typing in the textbox, again, the list drops down. And again, when I type a lowercase i, I get a list containing Item1 and Item2 with tem1 filled in to my textbox. Now if I press enter or tab, my textbox is filled with item1 instead of Item1 as it did with the combobox.
My question is:Is there a way to ensure that the text in the textbox matches the actual case of the item in the customsource? I can click the item in the dropdown and it appears in the textbox just fine. But I don't want to force my users to have to do that.

I'm trying to evade the problem of being unable to have a transparent textbox by using a label. When the label is selected, it selects the info in a textbox elsewhere. Then using Textbox.changed, i stream the text to the label. Maybe the code will make sense:
Private Sub UserLabelClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles UserLabel.Click
UserTB.SelectAll()
End Sub
[code]....
But the text is not selected and therefore cannot be changed.
