Windows resets the IDLE time every time the user touches the keyboard or the mouse. My application needs to reset the IDLE time at specific moments, but how to do this programmatically.
The following does NOT reset the IDLE time using VB, C# or QT4.
- Programmatic mouse movement / click.
- Programmatic keystroke.
Somehow Windows knows these actions are simulated. How can I reset the IDLE time?
I'm making an application in which I'm implementing auto-monitor turn off when system is idle, i.e. when user is not interacting with the system. [URL]it does provides the componenent to know when system is idle. But when I include:

View 1 Repliesway to reset a timer if there is form activity so it will not expire until the mouse has been at rest for 2 minutes.
This timer runs for 120000 milliseconds usually, and sometimes it lapses (and logs you out) when you are in the middle of editing. Sometimes 2 minutes is not enough time to do all the edits. So I wish to reset the remaining interval as long as there is mouse activity. But I am not sure the best method to do this?
I have found the mousemove event but to me this seems like it's going to fire way too often and tax the resources if I preform operations here, maybe not? Is there a better way to get this functionality?
I want this functionality so that if someone starts editing on the UI and walks off/gets distracted it will lock the grids back so that some other user can't come dork things up.
My main form has a timer that monitors idle time in my app: no mouse movements and no clicks.If the idle time reached 3 seconds, in *this example below*, then I want to show frmRestart, which will call the UnloadAllFormsExcept(Me) function from frmMain.When three idle seconds are reached, frmRepeat starts to show on the screen but never does!! It does both tasks using a timer event. If the service does nothing but these two things it says at startup that it's shutting down cause of being idle. The windows service thread needs something todo.[code]....

How can I programmatically reset my form background from a picture to a solid color. I have no trouble changing it to a picture or even changing it to another picture, but when I try to change it back to a solid color, it won't work.

My problem is how do I reset those changes? he dataset is not linked to any datasource. It just has its own table which I "manually" populate. The static columns have been added to the datatable at design time. However, I add a few columns as runtime based on a list of categories. Like this:

The dataset is used in a small dialog that pops up within my application. I add the dynamic columns when the dialog is opened by using the Load event. Everything works great the first time. But if you close the dialog and reopen it, there are problems. My startup routine tries adding the dynamic columns again, but an error is thrown saying the column already exists. I have tried a lot of things and did some reading but I can't figure out a way to reset the dataset when the dialog is closed. The only solution is to close the whole application and reopen it. I have tried the following in the Leave event of the dialog form:

If you right click on the time at the lower left of your Windows screen, you can click on "Adjust date/time", and within that, you can update the time on your PC via an internet time server. View 2 RepliesOk, so I am building my own program to control a video player I have through telnet, I have everything else working except one thing.I have a reset button to reset the player, when I press it, it sends the string "Reset" and the unit resets without a problem.But when I add a code to close the winsock connection upon reset, it doesn't send the string to the unit. I am sure what is happening is the winsock is getting closed at the exact same time it is trying to send the string and so it fails to send, how do I make it close winsock AFTER the string has been sent? This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm posting wrong. Anyway, I've been having an issue that I've never seen before and is driving me nut, I have a windows form on which I have placed many textboxes that display information from a MS SQL database. The user can then change these values and hit a "save" button which writes the changes to the database. I also have certain textboxes that with the "on leave" event (after a user enters a possible new value) trigger a method that recalculates some of the other fields based on the new information. Hopefully that all makes sense.
So the problem is, when I run through this "recalc" method the first time around, it doesn't update those textboxes that it's supposed to. However, when I put a breakpoint in and debug through it, the debugger shows it putting in the correct values into the textboxes. It's just as soon as the method is done, it puts them back to blank, or whatever they were before

If i set run ProgramA to run once a month...And I want ProgramA to also run every wednesday...What if these 2 tasks coincide?is there a way to programmatically say...If the monthly run of ProgramA happens to fall on a wednesday...wait until the weekly run of the same program is finished THEN execute the monthly run of the same program..I am trying to avoid collision of running the same program on different schedules.

How to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del in Windows 7 when the application loads? I'm looking for an example that disables Ctrl+Alt+Del when the app starts, and enables the combination again once it finishes.I found an example that disables the combination on Windows XP, however it doesn't seem to work on Windows 7. Why? Is it not allowed on Windows 7 to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del?Also, I'd like to know how to run an application as admin on Windows 7?
View 3 RepliesI wrote a small app we use on our computer to keep them running optimally and do some utility things (delete temp files, defrag drives, clean registry, backup my docs to the server, etc). One of the options I ahve in there is "Reset Windows to Defaults" and the objective was to setup windows how we normally would set them up before we give them to our users. So if a user messes with all his/her settings we can click this button and reset it all back. So far it resets IE settings, changes Window Explorer views, puts all the default icons on the desktop and turns off desktop cleanup, etc. Well one of the last things I want to do is change to the default Windows XP theme and apply it. After a lot of searching the internet I found this:

It does reset colors and stuff back to the theme. The problem is if a user has "Windows Classic" set and this is run it does apply the theme.....mostly. Things like dialog boxes stay in classic while the menu structure and desktop go the XP style. If you go into display properties it still shows "Windows Classic" but under Appearance it shows "Windows XP" which leads me to believe even though this function is for themes its actually just applying the appearance and not actually setting the theme.
I'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.
